Abyssal tentacle

The abyssal tentacle is a weapon which requires 75 Attack to wield. It is created by combining a kraken tentacle with an abyssal whip. It is an upgraded variant of the whip, having a +8 increase in Slash and +4 increase in Strength over its predecessor. It also has a 25% chance per hit to poison the opponent, which starts at 4 damage. The +90 slash bonus of the abyssal tentacle is second only to the +94 slash bonus of the blade of saeldor. It is very popular in the Duel Arena along with the Ghrazi rapier.

The abyssal tentacle can be created by using a kraken tentacle on an abyssal whip. Once created, the weapon will degrade after 10,000 hits, consuming the whip and leaving only the tentacle. When using the items on each other there will be a warning message that states The tentacle will gradually consume your whip and destroy it. You won't be able to get the whip out again. The combined item is not tradeable.

If the abyssal tentacle is not protected upon death, it will fully degrade into a kraken tentacle. However, if it is protected on death, it will remain in its regular state as the abyssal tentacle. In addition, the abyssal tentacle does not stack in the bank, regardless of the number of charges the abyssal tentacles have.

A player attaches a kraken tentacle to an abyssal whip.

Due to the volatile nature of the kraken tentacle, the abyssal tentacle degrades as it is used. Each hit costs 246.08, costing 369,120.9 per hour. After 10,000 hits with the weapon (400 minutes of continuous combat), it will degrade and consume the abyssal whip, leaving the player with only the kraken tentacle. If the player has a full inventory, the kraken tentacle will be left equipped in the weapon slot, useless and invisible.

As of an update on 31 March 2016, players can combine the charges of two abyssal tentacles. One fully charged abyssal tentacle is worth 10,000 charges, but by adding additional abyssal tentacles (not kraken tentacles), it can reach a maximum of 20,000 charges. This action will destroy the other abyssal tentacle, making this action effectively cost a kraken tentacle as well. This feature can be very useful in PvM situations, where players may use hundreds of charges through several boss fights.

Special attack

A player performs the abyssal tentacle's special attack, Binding Tentacle.

The abyssal tentacle has a special attack, Binding Tentacle, which consumes 50% of the player's special attack energy. Regardless of whether the hit is successful, the target will be bound for 5 seconds, and there will be approximately a 50% chance of applying poison, starting at 4 damage.

Poison damage

Total Poison damage (D) is calculated by the sum of all numbers (n) up to the max hit (M), times the amount of hits per number (H=5).

{\displaystyle {\begin{aligned}D(M)&=H\cdot \sum _{n=1}^{M}n=H\cdot {\frac {1}{2}}M(M+1)=2.5\cdot 4(4+1)=50\end{aligned}}}
