This article is about the regular beer. For beer in general, see
Ale.
Beer is a food item which, when drunk, heals 1 hitpoint and temporarily increases the player's Strength by 2% + 1, however it also temporarily decreases the player's Attack by 6% + 1. Players can obtain beer by buying it from pubs, or as drops from various monsters. One of the best places to buy beer in bulk is at Arnold's Eclectic Supplies. at the Piscatoris Fishing Colony after the completion of the Swan Song quest. A beer is used in the Vampyre Slayer, Tower of Life and Prince Ali Rescue quests.
Drinking multiple mugs of beer in short succession cannot bring a player's Strength bonus beyond the initial boost. Such an act, however, can repeatedly cause a penalty to a player's Attack until it reaches a minimum of 0. However, even if the player drinks multiple beers, they are still able to wield weapons of their base level (e.g. if a player with 60 Attack drinks beer to lower their level below 60, they can still wield dragon weapons).
Throughout the game, there are barrels of beer from which the player can fill an empty beer glass. To fill an empty glass, the player must use the it on the barrel, after which it will be replaced with beer. This interaction is only possible with a subset of barrels in the game. These barrels are visually distinguished by the presence of a tap that the player presumably draws the beer from. Note that while all such barrels have this distinguishing tap, not all barrels with a tap yield beer. Below is a list of known locations for these barrels.
