A bird nest can be found whilst cutting most types of trees, including ent trunks. The chance of getting a bird nest from a tree is 1/256 each time you would normally get a log, regardless of the type of tree (except redwood trees, which only drop clue nests). If a nest appears while a player is cutting a tree, a chirping sound will usually be heard, and the player will get a message in the chat box stating, "A bird's nest falls out of the tree." The nest is dropped on the ground and will despawn after 30 seconds if not picked up.

Bird nests may contain tree or fruit tree seeds, jewellery rings, or bird's eggs. Tree seeds can be used in Farming; rings can be enchanted with Magic; and birds' eggs can be offered to the shrine in the Woodcutting Guild to receive 100 Prayer experience and a bird nest which always contains seeds.

When a nest is dropped a roll is done to determine the type of nest the player will receive. The table contains 100 slots; 3/100 bird's egg(one for each colour), 31/100 rings, 66/100 seeds. When wearing a strung rabbit foot 5 seed slots are removed, making the chances 3/95 for bird's egg, 31/95 for ring and 61/95 for seeds.[1]

Empty bird nests can be crushed with a pestle and mortar, resulting in a crushed nest. Wesley in Nardah will crush both noted and un-noted bird nests for a fee of 50 coins each.

Crushed nests are used to make saradomin brews.

Probability[edit | edit source]

The rate of receiving a spirit seed from a nest is 11/1011.[2]

Although no total official rates have been confirmed, the experimental probability of receiving each type of seed may be found in the tables below. Note: This data was collected from nests received through woodcutting or rewards from Managing Miscellania. Nests received from Wyson were not included in the experiment but seem to reflect similar statistics. Note that these data were collected prior to the introduction of Dragonfruit and Redwood tree seeds.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • On rare occasions (1/256), the Armadyl crossbow special attack sound will be heard instead of the chirping sound when a nest is dropped from a tree.[3]
