Hunting spot location[edit | edit source]
Hunting technique[edit | edit source]
The hunting technique is the same as for other chinchompas. Players must bring a box trap for each trap they plan to set up. Players can use the same box trap over and over to catch multiple creatures.
Black chinchompas can be attacked, but they will explode upon being killed, harming the player if they are standing right next to it for 2 damage. Accidental misclicks may be avoided by wielding a bow with no arrows or adjusting NPC attack options to right-click attack only.
A fast but more attention-needing method of catching chinchompas is the "stand and shoot" method. The player should equip a bow and about 1000+ arrows and figure out where one chinchompa respawns by killing one and seeing where it appears. Once the player knows the exact location where a chinchompa respawns, they should surround the square with their box traps. Then, as the chinchompa appears, it will either enter a trap, or it will dismantle all traps and hop away. If the chinchompa dismantles the traps, the player should immediately kill it with an arrow and set the traps up again as fast as possible. In about three to four seconds, the chinchompa will respawn again, and the player may repeat the process of "standing and shooting" if necessary. This method has been tested to be more experience per hour than the traditional "set-up traps and wait" method, because the player can just make the chinchompa respawn and make it more likely to enter a trap rather than wait while it wanders around.
Hunting chance[edit | edit source]
The chance of success is approximately 148/255 beginning at level 73, and 228/255 at level 99. Carnivorous and Black Chinchompas have the same catch rate. The approximate formula for the chance of a successful catch (P) given hunter level (L) is:
As black chinchompas are located in the Wilderness, there are chances of PKers appearing. Therefore, it is recommended to bank the chinchompas every so often to avoid losing all of them to another player.
Multiple traps[edit | edit source]
Box trapping can be done with multiple traps at once, with the maximum amount of traps depending on the player's Hunter level.
Compared to hunting other chinchompas, an extra trap may be set while hunting black chinchompas, since they are located in the Wilderness.
Spawns[edit | edit source]
The following images display the precise spawn tiles of the chichompas. The area is divided into three spots, each containing four chinchompa spawns. You may use these to optimize your trap placement.
