Dark totem detail.png

The dark totem is an item that can be created by combining the dark totem base, dark totem middle, and dark totem top. All three components can be found by killing monsters (excluding ghosts) in the Catacombs of Kourend. Superior slayer monsters have a 100% chance of dropping a totem piece; all others have a chance equal to , where is the monster's Hitpoints. A fully-assembled dark totem can also be rarely obtained from Skotizo.

The dark totem is used on the altar in the centre of the Catacombs to access the lower level of the Catacombs of Kourend to fight Skotizo. Each totem gives a one-time only access to face it. Assembling the dark totem results in a chatbox message stating You bring the totem pieces together with a click. It looks kind of like an arcane key and pulses with dark power in your hand.

A player uses the dark totem on the altar in the centre of the Catacombs.

7 March 2019
(update | poll)
Dark totem pieces no longer need to be assembled in order to continue receiving them.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Previously, the High Level Alchemy value of a dark totem was 6. This was changed sometime in late 2016 to its current value of 270.
  • The first week after the release of the Dark totem, the totem pieces were a more common drop than currently, so that players could stock up on Dark totems in anticipation of Skotizo's release.[1]
