A deadfall is a type of trap used in the Hunter skill. The deadfall trapping technique is used to catch several kebbits and maniacal monkeys. With the required Hunter level, a knife and logs in the inventory (or a banana when hunting maniacal monkeys), clicking on a boulder will set the trap. When the kebbit or monkey paths towards the trap, it may be caught.
If the prey is successfully caught, the boulder will fall on the animal, and the player will have the option to "check" the deadfall trap. If not successful, the boulder will fall back to its original position, and the player has to set up the trap again.
Rather than bringing the logs to set deadfall traps, it's advisable that players bring an axe to cut their own logs at the hunting area, with the exception of Kruk's Dungeon, where logs are not used and a Kruk monkey greegree and bananas are needed instead to catch maniacal monkeys.
Adding bait to a trap will increase the catch rate by +3%, while smoking a trap will increase the catch rate by +2%.[1] Due to the low increase of the catch rate, most players believe that smoking or adding bait to traps doesn't justify the extra actions it takes.
Boulders for setting up deadfall traps can also be found south of Weiss in an inaccessible area.
