Hello, I am wondering if there are any terms of use for the MediaWiki API for the new OSRS Wiki. I am interested in querying the API to grab item data - doing something like parsing the Infobox templates for properties such as item weight etc. The resultant data would not be used for profit, and would be an open resource for players. It would be nice to know if there is any issue with: 1) Using the API, or 2) Using the resultant data in an open project. Thanks in advance. Also, not sure if this question should go here, but it seemed the most suitable place I could find.

There is no specific API-related Terms of Use, but everything in the ToU linked in the footer of the wiki applies. Data used is also governed by our copyright policy on https://meta.weirdgloop.org/w/Meta:Copyrights. Our main license for content is a non-commercial one.

If you’re using our API, using a custom user agent is preferred. There are ratelimits for certain actions, which are documented on the MediaWiki site, but for those that don’t have a hard limit, try to be reasonable in how many requests you’re making. I know this is quite an informal response so hopefully we’ll have something written up about API usage sometime in the near future. JaydenKieran 07:58, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
