Forum:Discord collaboration
In case you aren't aware, RSWiki has recently started a program that lets established specialty Discord servers partner up with the wiki to write guides on their topic of expertise. In return, the wiki guide page is given a header crediting the efforts of that Discord server to write and maintain the page, including a link to the server in question.
The program is still in its infancy, but the PvM Encyclopedia discord has already partnered up and started writing guides about high-level PvM content in RS3. This thread is to propose we bring across the same Discord collaboration program to OSWiki, to allow our wiki to collaborate with Discord servers to get better guides on the wiki and direct interested players to their Discord.
Rather than reword the entire proposal here, I would encourage people to read the following threads on RSW, to see how the program was proposed and how it functions in its current state.
- rsw:Forum:Discord collaboration, guides and links - RSW proposal page. The proposal there goes into significantly more depth than I will here, so I recommend checking it out. There's also plenty of healthy discussion about details of the program in the comments.
- rsw:RuneScape:Discord Affiliates - RSW program page. This outlines the finished program, including the application process and the current (one right now) affiliates.
- rsw:Forum:Discord collaboration: PvM Encyclopedia - PvM Encyclopedia's successful application for the program, outlining their current pages of focus and future plans for collaboration
Personally, I think the program is a great way to both improve the wiki's guides and strengthen our ties with the many dedicated groups that are part of the OSRS community. It would help bring these guides up to the high standards we have across other parts of the wiki, and encourage experts who previously would not have edited to contribute to the wiki. Having the header on the page in turns helps these Discord servers grow, and helps the OSRS community as a whole by connecting new/learning players with other players interested in the same things.
