I'm posting this as a project suggestion because there is NO WAY I could take this on by myself.
The wiki chatheads are boring. There is no variety. All of the them have mostly the same expression on their faces, with no emotion.
Let's start uploading images of chatheads where the NPC is angry with the player, or sad, or laughing at a funny joke!
For the admins: We could use the infobox variables to add images for the various emotions.
For the users: That means tabs above each chat head image on a page, so you can check out their various expressions, if you want to!
Bonus feature: A user-configurable setting to choose the default emotion displayed across the wiki.
I'd love to have as many laughing NPCs as I can get, because their smiles tend to cheer me up when I'm sad.
I think this would be a fun long term project that we don't have to take all that seriously.
Edit: I know there are a lot of NPCs that only have one expression.
Weak oppose - I think injecting personality into the wiki is important. We try to keep this spirit alive year round with (our currently temporarily disabled) front page poll and Article of the Week. The wiki would be a boring, corporate place without these. However, I think these things have their places, and I'm not sure if the mainspace is one of them. We already see switch infoboxes that are way over-cluttered, and this is only going to worsen that in my opinion. This seems like it would take an immense amount of work from everyone, for an outcome that is less than worth it. As Spine said, there is a lot that needs done on this website, and I think as an editor, your time can be spent doing things that will greater impact the site as a whole, and won't cause Spine to take 70 different images of the same NPC. - 04:10, 6 December 2018 (UTC)
Oppose - As per Spine. Chatheads just reuse the same animations, at most I could see having examples of those animations but definitely not an example of each for every single NPC. iN008talk 10:25, 6 December 2018 (UTC)
Comment While I have to agree that getting every chathead for every character in the game is likely too much of an undertaking (though of course, many hands make light work, and with enough people working together anything is possible), I think you bring up a great point about us lacking chathead images and variety in general. The Chathead page in particular is extrememly bare-bones, and could be a good place to start in terms of expanding the wiki's chathead coverage. dding more examples of different emotions, examples of non-human chatheads, images and gifs as well to show what chatheads look like in game, could all be short-term improvements to the wiki that wouldn't require the massive amounts of manpower that "complete coverage" would. I know it's not exactly the original solution, but if an "Emotions project" should start anywhere, I think having at least one example of each emotion would be a good start (and then, depending on how everybody's feeling, there could be work towards more complete coverage later). Oppose - I'm all for showing different emotions on the chathead page or something but no way are we doing it for every NPC. That's an absurd amount of effort13:17, 6 December 2018 (UTC)
Closed - The "Emotions Project" will not become a sitewide project. -- 02:14, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
