I noticed today that while the wiki and Jagex are both UK-based, the item drop chances all over the wiki are in US format (fractions).

I thought it would be nice to have these in a more universally understood format such as percentages.

I'm willing to go through and change what I can find, but before I start making a massive change like this, I thought I would solicit opinions.

A change like that would need to be done completely site wide and not in parts. There would be some serious work needed. But why I do not recommend this change is that fractions and percentages are very easily converted. Fractions show the most pertinent information right away (e.g. how many anticipated kills are needed for a certain drop). When wiki users are finding out drop percentages for items that are unknown (because Jagex doesn't give all the info) the users measure the statistics in fractions: How many times did I get it over How many times did I try. We get the data in the fraction form and it would be unnecessary to take an extra step for every data point to convert into percentages. NightFC (talk) 19:02, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

**Comment** - Hi, thanks for the input. I must ask if there is some additional information that was left out, however.
"How many times did I get an item out of how many tries?" is a terrible way to express the odds, because it is completely subjective.
That is, for each player who tries, the number of tries may be different, because statistics are always multiplicative when RNG is a factor.
Think of it like a dice roll. You have 1/6. On any of 6 rolls, you could get any of the numbers, but you could get the same number twice and in that case, you did not get all 6 numbers in 6 rolls.
Therefore, I feel that the extra step of converting to a percentage, especially given that the real data from Jagex is not known, is far more accurate than the simple fraction.

- Since fractions and percentages equal the same thing, I think the primary focus of your proposal is "should we standardize how the wiki presents the info to be on par with how Jagex presents the info?" Personally, I think that many users appreciate seeing it in fractions and that a website-wide change of something that equals the same thing isn't worth the effort and may create more problems. I think it's nice how the information is presented since people commonly say in-game the drop rate is 1 of 4000 versus saying its 0.00025%. NightFC (talk) 20:05, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
- I've already replied to you on Twitter, but I'll reiterate again. Most of the drop rates that are revealed by Jagex often use fractions, and thus we use it too as to not deviate from the source. Regardless, conversion is extremely simple already and I see no need to make such changes. --

**No** - From my understanding, Jagex like to uses powers of 2 for drop rates (ex. 128, 256, 1024), this extends to fractions very well. It is the most concise and clear way to display. Whereas percentages would cause data loss to to significant digits rounding. Most importantly, it is easier to understand and visual 1/4000 vs 0.025%. Shoyrukon (talk) 20:25, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

- Also like to add it's easy to confuse percentages. (I.e. 0.00025 vs 0.025%). Some people may mistake the first as a percentage which results in a 1/400000 drop rate. Shoyrukon (talk) 20:29, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
