The frozen key is obtained from combining the four key pieces received from the God Wars Dungeon's four generals and their bodyguards during The Frozen Door miniquest. It is used to open the frozen door in the dungeon, which leads to the Ancient Prison containing Zaros' followers and their leader, Nex.

Because players must battle the generals of the God Wars Dungeon, level 70 Strength, Agility, Ranged, and Hitpoints are necessary to obtain the key.

• Unlike the frozen key in RuneScape, the frozen key in Old School RuneScape does not degrade and is a single-use item to permanently access the Ancient Prison.
