A furnace is an interactive scenery object primarily used in Smithing to smelt various ores into metal bars. Furnaces around Gielinor are identified with a furnace icon on the world map and minimap.
Furnaces are also used for Crafting from metal bars. With the appropriate mould in their inventory and the required Crafting level, players can use the furnace to craft gold or silver bars into jewellery such as rings or holy symbols, assuming they have the appropriate mould in their inventory and the required Crafting level. Players may also make molten glass by smelting soda ash and a bucket of sand.
Due to a furnace's distance from a bank, players with level 43 Magic may choose to use Superheat Item instead of furnaces for smelting bars, earning both Magic and Smithing experience, at a higher overall cost.
The closest furnace to a bank is located in Prifddinas (requiring Song of the Elves), closely followed by the furnace in Edgeville. If you are a new player with limited teleport options and need to make use of a furnace just once, you can teleport to Lumbridge and use the furnace slightly north of the teleport area.
Locations[edit | edit source]
Furnace location | Distance from bank | Members | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Edgeville | 15 (4.8 seconds) | The closest furnace to a bank in free-to-play. Members who wear Varrock armour have a chance of smelting 2 bars at once at this furnace. | |
Al-Kharid | 30 (9 seconds) | Located directly north of the bank. It was the closest furnace in free-to-play until the Edgeville furnace was made available in free worlds. | |
Falador | 39 (12 seconds) | Located immediately south-east of Falador square. Closer to the west bank than the east one. | |
Lumbridge | 85 (2nd floor[UK]3rd floor[US] - 25.8 seconds) 93 (Culinaromancer's Chest - 28.2 seconds) |
Located north of Lumbridge Castle. | |
Wilderness, Level 28 | 116 squares from the Ferox Enclave bank (34.8 seconds) | Located in the Wilderness at level 28. Useful for the nearby mines, but risky due to PKers. | |
Prifddinas | 11 (3.6 seconds) | Currently the closest furnace to both an anvil and a bank. Requires completion of Song of the Elves. | |
Shilo Village | 10 (3 seconds) | Requires completion of Shilo Village. The closest furnace to a bank for those who haven't completed Song of the Elves. Players must pay 20 coins each time, unless they have Karamja gloves 4. | |
Neitiznot | 15 (4.8 seconds) | Due to being positioned where you don't have to move your camera when smelting or banking, this furnace is commonly used by OSRS Mobile players. | |
Mount Karuulm | 15 (4.8 seconds) | Can be quickly accessed using the teleport option on Rada's blessing 3 or by fairy ring (code CIR). | |
Dorgesh-Kaan | 99 (30 seconds) | Can only be used to smelt jewellery and glass. | |
Port Phasmatys | 17 (5.4 seconds) | Equipping a ghostspeak amulet or Morytania legs 2 or higher allows you to skip the bank dialogue. | |
Elemental workshop | 52 (15.6 seconds) | Can only be used to smelt Elemental ore. A Battered key is required to enter. | |
Piscatoris | 22 (6.6 seconds) | Requires completion of Swan Song. | |
Mor Ul Rek | 25 (7.8 seconds) | In-game, these are labeled as, Lava forges, and can be found in both the inner and outer areas. | |
Burgh de Rott | 31 (9.6 seconds) | There are no significant mining areas nearby. | |
Lovakengj | 37 (11.4 seconds) | Located directly between the Lovakengj bank and mine. | |
Zanaris | 52 (16.2 seconds) | Requires completion of Lost City. | |
East Ardougne | 41 (12.6 seconds) | Closest to the north Ardougne bank. | |
Keldagrim | 18 squares from bank to conveyor belt (5.4 seconds), 8 from bank to bar dispenser (2.4 seconds). | The Giant Dwarf quest is needed to have been started or completed to enter the city. The furnace is used as part of the Blast Furnace minigame. 2500 coins are needed to use it if you are not 60 Smithing. | |
Wilderness Resource Area | 93 squares from Edgeville (28.2 seconds)
109 squares from the Mage Arena bank (33 seconds) |
Banking in Edgeville or at the Mage Arena using the Wilderness lever requires a knife or slash weapon, as well as coins to re-enter. Piles in the area can turn items to banknotes for a fee. | |
Darkmeyer | 140 (42 seconds) | Requires Sins of the Father to access and Vyre noble clothing to use safely. | |
Forsaken Tower | 177 (53.4 seconds) | No significant mining areas nearby. The Lovakengj furnace mentioned above is much better to use for training. | |
Entrana | 95 (28.8 seconds - 38.4 if not using the Draynor wall shortcut). | This furnace is mainly used in Crafting to make glass, as all materials are found on the island. | |
Rellekka | 96 squares from Lunar Isle bank (28.8 seconds) | Usable after The Fremennik Trials. Prior to the release of Song of the Elves, this was the closest furnace to an anvil. | |
Enakhra's Temple | 241 from Nardah bank (72.6 seconds) | Very far from a bank, but sometimes used for smelting gold from the nearby mine south-west of Nardah. Requires completion of Enakhra's Lament. | |
Tyras Camp | 80 squares when chartering to Port Khazard (24 seconds) | Costs between 800-3200 coins per charter. | |
Underground Pass | 635 with shortcut in Underground Pass; 657 otherwise, assuming banking at Prifddinas. | Used in the Underground Pass quest to destroy the orbs of light. While completely impractical for training, with one way taking over 3 minutes, it's a functioning furnace. |
