The gas mask is a quest item made by Edmond's wife during the Plague City quest. The mask allows players to enter West Ardougne without being affected by the plague. Gas masks are also dropped by the mourners who are present in Mourning's End Part I.

Gas masks serve as a way to protect player from damage in the Smokey Well and Smoke Devil Dungeon. The mask also reduces damage from the clouds whilst sulphur mining in Shayzien, which makes them useful even after their intended quest use.

In order to reclaim a mask if lost, search the cupboard on the ground floor^[UK]1^st floor^[US] of Edmond's house to obtain another. This is only possible when the original mask was created by Edmond's wife for the first time. Additional sets of Dwellberries are not required.
