Harold Death Esquire,[1] better known as simply Death or the Grim Reaper, is a legendary Guardian of Guthix who is responsible for the reaping of souls in Gielinor. He and his pet skeleton hellhound Muncher can be found in his office, which can be accessed from various portals at the following locations:

He acts as a "Death Tutor" when players die for the first time and explains death, item losses, and gravestones. Players are able to retrieve their items from Death by paying a fee, should they fail to reach their gravestone in time or wish to safely and quickly retrieve their items.

He has been the main figure of many Halloween events: he plays a part in the 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2021 Halloween events. An aspect of him appears all over the world when players die during the Halloween weeks.

Holiday events[edit | edit source]

2014 event[edit | edit source]

After the sudden and unexpected death of his last servant (caused by the Grim Reaper's touch of death), the Grim Reaper's mansion has become rather messy. Death asks the player to help him clean the house, so it's in a better state, when his new and 1,000th servant arrives. After a bit of cleaning and organising of his living room and garden, as well as completion of a training course, the Grim Reaper rewards the player with the Grim Reaper Hood and a new Zombie Hand emote (and the scared emote if the player was not present for the 2013 event).

(This event is a remake of the original 2007 Halloween event.)

2015 event[edit | edit source]

Main article: 2015 Halloween event

Death has trouble with getting Anti-Santa out of his house, after having letting him stay for a while. He asks the player to lure Anti-Santa out of the house and then barricade all doors and windows to show that he is no longer welcome. When the player is done, Death rewards them with the Gravedigger outfit, the anti-panties and the Hypermobile Drinker emote.

2017 event[edit | edit source]

Main article: 2017 Halloween event

Death senses a disturbing force and ask the player to investigate. The player accidentally bring an incredibly malevolent spirit named Jonas into the world of the living. Death saw Jonas as one of the most evil creatures to have ever existed and was unable to reap his soul, so instead he sealed him away and erased all people's memories of him but one, Jarvis, the man who originally killed him, in case Jonas would ever return. Death sends the player to the Sapphire Lagoon to find Jarvis and put an end to Jonas. After the player successfully trap Jonas in a time bubble in an underwater cave, Death is content and let the player keep the Jonas mask, as well as a bunch of older Halloween rewards.

2021 event[edit | edit source]

Main article: 2021 Halloween event

Death volunteers to be the spooky companion that the player advertised for in order to scare Oziach from purchasing the Edgeville Monastery. However, the player decides to take Iffie instead. After the player and Iffie fail to scare off Oziach, Death unexpectedly appears and unintentionally scares away Oziach, oblivious to the fact the player and Iffie are hiding behind a tree nearby.
