Lava runes are combination runes that count as two separate runes: one Fire rune and one Earth rune. Thus, any spell requiring one Fire rune, one Earth rune or both will spend only one Lava rune.
They can be created with the Runecraft skill or purchased with Pizazz points from the Mage Training Arena.
When equipped, the Lava battlestaff and Mystic lava staff will act as an unlimited number of Lava runes.
10 Lava runes and 10 Mist runes are required for the completion of Swan Song. In addition, crafting Lava runes at the Fire altar is a medium task in the Lumbridge & Draynor Diary.
At Runecraft level 23 or higher, they can be crafted in several ways:
When creating Lava runes, you may wear a tiara to enter and use the altar, but the other element must be a talisman. For example, if you travel to the Fire Altar, you may wear a Fire Tiara, but you must use an Earth Talisman. The talisman is also consumed in the process unless the player is under the effect of Magic Imbue. The Elemental talisman will also not work in place of talismans while crafting the runes.
To prevent getting the wrong runes made, make sure you are using the complementary rune on the altar. For example, at the Fire altar use the Earth runes on the altar and vice versa. Using a pure essence on the Fire altar will produce Fire runes.
Creating Lava runes has a 50% success rate or 100% if the player is wearing a binding necklace.
