Woodcutting[edit | edit source]
While clearing away the jungle, your character will occasionally make a brief pause as if "taking a breather," indicating that the player has failed to cut the jungle.
Jungle of all three types (light, medium, dense) operate in a very different manner than most other woodcutting content, and are rather complicated.
Cutting[edit | edit source]
It can be cut with a machete at level 20 Woodcutting, giving 55 experience, and yields thatch spar meds, which can be used to make skewer sticks or used in the Tai Bwo Wannai Cleanup minigame to reinforce the village fences. Jungle is cut in four sections, and once all four sections are cut the jungle becomes depleted.
The chance to successfully cut a section of jungle is dependent on a player's Woodcutting level, and the type of machete used. The difficulty in cutting jungle also increases from light to medium and to dense.
A player's Woodcutting level also has the added effect of increasing speed that jungle is cut at. This mechanic is unique to jungle cutting. When first chopping, the player will swing at the jungle for a period of time, dependent on woodcutting level. At Woodcutting level 10, players cut jungle in 16 tick intervals. Every 10 woodcutting levels (20, 30, 40, so on) the time to cut is decreased by 1 tick, until at 90 Woodcutting players cut at a speed of 8 ticks.
After swinging at the jungle the skilling tick occurs, rolling the chance to success/fail at chopping the jungle section. This roll always happens 4 ticks before the end of the cycle. Following the skilling tick, a 3 tick animation of succeed/fail plays and the cycle restarts if there is more jungle section to cut.

Events[edit | edit source]
The overall average time to receive an event is around 64 ticks with constant jungle interaction and with slight variation between Woodcutting levels. In practice the time will be slower due to interruptions from jungle depletion and events. Events can occur while cutting jungle. All events are on a common table and the table is rolled when an event occurs. These events can be mosquito swarms, jungle spiders, tribesmen, broodoo victims, bush snakes, gem rocks, and gout tubers. The monster events will pop out of the jungle being cut and attack the player. The gem rock and gout tuber will take the place of the jungle, and need to be removed before being able to cut again. The chance for an event to happen is not dependent on successfully cutting jungle, jungle type, or machete used.

The chance for an event to happen is related to a players woodcutting level (but overall effect is low). The chance to have an event is controlled by a formula and script semi-tied to the cutting of the jungle. Each chop attempt (even if failed) increases a counter by 1, up to a max of 7. This is your chance 'out of 101' of getting an event. It starts off at 0/101, and increases to 7/101 as you chop.
The counter increases on the skilling tick of the cut cycle. This ticker is not directly responsible for an event occuring, but instead increases the chances when rolling for an event to take place. Event rolls take place after the first tick of the cycle and occur each tick until the skilling tick of each cycle. For example, at 90+ Woodcutting jungle has 8 tick cycles. Tick 1 is a start delay, ticks 2 3 4 are event rolls, 5 is the skill tick, and 6 7 8 are the success/fail animation delay. In this example events can only happen on ticks 2 3 and 4. Lower Woodcutting levels have additional event roll ticks and increase the cycle length.
