Niff & harry detail.png

Niff & Harry is a poem found in the Grand Library in Prifddinas, which requires completion of Song of the Elves to access.

The poem describes an encounter between Niff Delfingus, a nurse who was said to be able to cure any illness, and a human named Sir Harry the Hero. It is not known whether the Harry referred to in the poem is the same Sir Harry encountered in the Underground Pass.

If lost, it can be reclaimed from any bookshelf in the Grand Library, or from a bookcase within a player-owned house.

Transcript[edit | edit source]

The following text is transcluded from Transcript:Niff & harry.

It was a fair spring day,
That so jumped upon us,
When I was a boy,
Under Nurse Niff Delfingus.

An aged gnome she was,
Who toppled the the best,
For all ails she could cure,
No matter the test.

But on that crisp day,
On the door came a bang,
And Sir Harry the Hero,
Stumbled in with a clang.

His shoulders were broad.
His form of a hulk,
But he crawled and he gasped,
His face a deep sulk.

'Nurse Niff!' He cried,
His voice coarse and dry,
'Please help, dear woman,
Lest the end be nigh!'

The gnome gave a smile,
She knew Harry well,
And sitting him down,
She asked him 'Pray tell?'

With agony in eye,
And groan as he sat,
He clasped her old hand,
And launched their long chat.

'I know not the cause,
But only the ache,
It began with my throat,
Then my hand did shake.

My head spins round,
It might burst in two,
And stomach, it boils,
Like a green witch's stew.

And my spleen, shorn in half,
I can feel it divide!
And my eyes's all ablur,
Like a fey's magic ride.

And my heart has near stopped,
I feel it's all drained,
My ankle been smashed,
And knee all sprained.

My liver will squeal,
Every time I dare budge,
It screams out in hurt,
As my blood turns to fudge.

The intestines have turned,
Against their old friend,
And my spine's all askew,
Like a monster did rend.

My neck is near snapped,
And foot gone all stiff,
Please help me and old man,
My wonderful Nurse Niff!'

Niff patted his head,
Like a mother who knew,
And went to the back,
Bringing forth a large brew.

She held to his jaw,
As she tipped the clear glass,
And down his deep throat,
The medicine did pass.

With a jolt and a sneeze,
Sir Harry leapt up,
An instant case cured,
As he finished the cup.

He roared and he laughed,
And gave Niff a great hug,
'You've done it, good woman,
You killed the vile bug!'

As he ran out the door,
My eyes grew quite wide,
'What happened, Nurse Niff,
I was sure he was fried!

'An old trick,' She said back,
'It works without fail,'
She grinned like a thief,
'Only Greenman's Ale.'

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Niff & Harry was written by a player named Bob1010102 as part of a lore writing competition to commemorate the release of Song of the Elves, in which their name can be found in-game by searching the desk by the Elven Crystal Chest in the Tower of Voices. In addition, they were sent an engraved crystal decoration in real life to commemorate the quest.
