# Pay-to-play Runecraft training

Jump to navigation Jump to search

The profitability of the skill draws some to Runecraft. Players, especially those who use Magic extensively, can benefit by training this skill. However, the amount of long and tedious work that goes into levelling up this skill drives many players away from it.

## General information and tips

Most Runecraft training methods involve using essence. Pure essence is most commonly used, as it can be used for all rune types and is typically cheaper than rune essence.

Players who have completed Sins of the Father can obtain untradeable daeyalt essence through mining daeyalt shards. While daeyalt essence gives 50% extra experience per essence, obtaining and using daeyalt essence is slower overall than simply buying pure essence from the Grand Exchange and using it. However, obtaining daeyalt essence requires fairly low amount of effort, which can be useful for some players.

Runecraft training methods involve a lot of running, so it is strongly recommended to use stamina potions to restore run energy. Having a fairly high Agility level and the graceful outfit is helpful for faster run energy restoration, though not necessary. The Ring of endurance is also useful for some methods, as it reduces the run energy drain and doubles the duration of the stamina potion effect when charged.

### Recommended quests

The quests listed in the table below offer very useful rewards for a lot of training methods. Completing them is strongly recommended before doing a lot of Runecraft training.

Quest Requirements Notes
Rune Mysteries None Prerequisite for many quests, including ones below.
Enter the Abyss Completion of Rune Mysteries Required for repairing essence pouches. Also awards 1,000 Runecraft experience.
Temple of the Eye Completion of Enter the Abyss

A total of 9,210 Runecraft experience is earned by completing the quest. Unlocks the Guardians of the Rift minigame.
The Eyes of Glouphrie Completion of The Grand Tree

46 Magic

Awards 6,000 Runecraft experience, which will allow the player to skip most of the early levels.
Lunar Diplomacy Various, see the quest page. The Lunar spellbook gives access to very useful spells used in some of the fastest training methods. The quest also awards 5,000 Runecraft experience.

### Essence pouches

Essence pouches are used for any Runecraft training methods that involve using essence. They allow the player to carry more essence per run, as they can be filled with essence and then emptied to add the essence back into the player's inventory. This will increase experience rates a lot in most cases. A small pouch is given to the player after completing Enter the Abyss.

To fill an essence pouch, simply click on it while having essence in the inventory. The pouches can be filled without closing the bank interface. A filled essence pouch can be emptied by holding the Shift key and then clicking on the pouch. To enable the Shift-click empty configuration, click the wrench icon to go to 'Settings', go to 'All Settings', search 'shift', and toggle on the option 'Shift click to drop items'.

Essence pouches are dropped by from abyssal leeches, guardians, and walkers. They reside in the Abyss and in the Abyssal Area. The Abyss can be accessed through the Mage of Zamorak in level 5 Wilderness north of Edgeville, and the Abyssal Area through the fairy ring ALR. The pouches are dropped in increasing size; for example, a player who already has the small pouch will get a medium pouch next, and so on. The pouches can be obtained prior to having the required Runecraft levels to use them. However, players cannot store any essence inside of them without the Runecraft level requirement.

In order to obtain a colossal pouch, the player must create it using a small, medium, large, giant pouch and an abyssal needle. This requires 85 Runecraft and 56 Crafting.

The medium, large, and giant pouches will degrade after enough use. When degraded, they will hold less essence than they normally would. The pouches can be repaired at the Dark mage, either by talking to him in the Abyss or contacting him via the NPC Contact spell on the Lunar spellbook. It is best to repair the pouches right before they become degraded or as soon as they do. If the pouches are not repaired, they will eventually vanish after enough use, in which case the player will have to get new ones. The small pouch can be obtained from the Dark mage for free if lost.

Type level Capacity Cumulative capacity Uses before decay (approx.)
Small pouch 1 3 3 No decay
Medium pouch 25 6 9 45
Large pouch 50 9 18 29
Giant pouch 75 12 30 10
Colossal pouch 85 40 40 8

### Rune pouch

The rune pouch (not to be confused with essence pouches) can store 16,000 of three types of runes. It saves inventory space for methods where runes are used for casting spells, such as NPC Contact for repairing essence pouches. This will increase experience rates for those methods. The easiest way to get a rune pouch is to buy a rune pouch note from the Grand Exchange and using it on a banker in exchange for a rune pouch. A rune pouch note currently costs 5,979,773.

## Starting off

### Levels 1–32/34: Questing

Early levels can be skipped by completing quests that give Runecraft experience. Completing Enter the Abyss miniquest, The Ascent of Arceuus, The Eyes of Glouphrie, The Slug Menace and Temple of the Eye grants a total of 20,210 experience, which will get the player from level 1 to 33. This allows the player to craft lava runes right from the start or do the Guardians of the Rift minigame. All these quests have low requirements and can be done at a fairly low level.

Lunar Diplomacy grants an additional 5,000 experience, which will get the player to level 36, but it has much higher requirements. However, being on the lunar spellbook is highly recommended for crafting lava runes and for Ourania Altar.

### Levels 1–23/50: Making talisman tiaras

Making talisman tiaras is one of the fastest training methods for early levels. It also has no quest or skill level requirements. This method can be very expensive, so it is only recommended for players who wish to get through the early levels as fast as possible and do not mind spending some money. Players are advised to switch to crafting lava runes at level 23, as it is only slightly slower but much cheaper. Lava runes become faster at level 50, when the player can use the large pouch.

Talisman tiaras are made by using a talisman on the corresponding altar with a tiara in the inventory. The tiara can be also used on the altar, but the left-click option on tiaras is wear, so it is suggested to use the talisman instead. Wearing a tiara also makes the altar left-click and removes an animation on getting into the altar.

For the fastest rates, players will need a direct teleport to the altar and rings of dueling (or other bank teleport) to bank at Castle Wars. It is possible to craft up to 14 tiaras in one trip without teleports (or with equipped teleports), or 13 tiaras with teleports. Using the Abyss is not recommended for the methods below.

Experience rates and costs for crafting talisman tiaras are shown in the table below. Players will need to get 101,333 experience to get from level 1 to 50.

Type Teleport XP/h Tiaras needed Total profit GP/XP

### Levels 1–23: Elemental runes

Another option to get through the early levels is to craft elemental runes. However, it is strongly recommended to complete quests that give Runecraft experience instead, as crafting elemental runes is relatively slow.

levels Method XP needed Pure essence needed Route
1–9 Air runes 969 194 Starting at the Falador east bank, exit the city south and run south-west to the Air Altar. Teleport or run back to Falador, and repeat the process.
9–14 Earth runes 1,138 176 The Earth Altar is located just north-east of Varrock. Players can use a ring of dueling at Castle Wars, and get to the Earth Altar by using a Lumberyard teleport scroll or the balloon near Castle Wars. Alternatively, players can teleport to Varrock, bank at the Varrock east bank, and run to the altar.
14–23 Fire runes 4,184 598 Use a ring of dueling to Al Kharid PvP Arena, run a bit north to the Fire Altar, craft runes, and use the ring of dueling to bank at Castle Wars. 5 rings of dueling is enough to get from level 14 to 23.

## Levels 23–99: Lava runes

Crafting lava runes is the fastest way to train Runecraft. They are made by visiting the Fire Altar with essence and at least an equal amount of earth runes.

For this method, players will need level 82 Magic and completion of Lunar Diplomacy to cast the spell Magic Imbue. It negates the need for a talisman in combination runecrafting, which will increase experience rates. Players who cannot use the spell will need to use an earth talisman instead. Players should use a binding necklace to ensure combination runes are crafted 100% of the time.

### Solo lavas

 100K
 16000 16000

The best equipment to use is a tiara, your best weight-reducing clothing, a mist battlestaff, tome of fire, and a rune pouch holding cosmic and astral runes for the Magic Imbue spell and NPC Contact spell to repair your pouches. Including law runes in the rune pouch can be useful in case you forget to replace a broken dueling ring. The mist battlestaff offers unlimited water and air runes, while the tome offers unlimited fire runes. A smoke battlestaff with a tome of water will also work. For ironman players, a staff of water with a tome of fire or a staff of fire with a tome of water will also work if the last rune pouch slot has air runes or air combination runes. Magic imbue costs 7 water and 7 fire runes per cast, whereas NPC contact costs 2 air runes every once in a while.

For creating lava runes, players should use a ring of dueling to teleport close to the Fire Altar and back to Castle Wars to bank. It is also worth noting that the player might only want to use the 2 largest rune pouches they have available to them. If you are to use rune pouches be sure to bring another earth talisman as the runes in the pouches are not made into lava runes. The time saved filling and emptying the pouches could result in faster laps and better experience rates, as well allowing the dueling ring and binding necklaces to discharge evenly.

Experience rates are shown in the table below, and they vary depending on how many essence pouches are available. Before level 99, players can gain up to 72,000 experience per hour at maximum efficiency. Due to the click-intensive process this method involves, players may be more likely to see rates closer to 65,000–70,000 experience per hour. At level 99, the maximum possible experience rate caps at around 79,000 experience per hour.

3. Assumes 24 stamina doses per hour.
4. ^ Assumes small, medium, and large pouches (containing 18 additional essence).
5. ^ Assumes large and giant pouches (containing 21 additional essence).
6. ^ Assumes colossal pouch (containing 40 additional essence).

### Runner lavas

Crafting lava runes using essence runners is the fastest way to train Runecraft. However, this method is very expensive, so it is only recommended for wealthy players who wish to gain experience as fast as possible and do not mind spending a lot of money. This method also requires good coordination and accurate clicks, as the player will need to rapidly accept trades and craft runes at the altar.

The fastest method is to have multiple runners run the essence while the runecrafter stands next to the altar. Having 4 runners is optimal to minimise downtime, although 3 runners can be a better option for inexperienced runecrafters. Having less than 3 runners is not recommended, as there would be too much downtime.

Alternatively, the runecrafter can craft lava runes normally (as a solo player would) and have 1 runner trade them extra essence every lap. This method is also known as duo or 1+1 lavas. This method is considerably slower than using 3–4 runners, but also a lot cheaper.

A runner typically costs around 7–8 million coins per hour. The price can vary depending on the runner's experience.

Experience rates and costs are shown in the table below. The costs assume the player is paying 7 million coins per hour per runner. The rates can also vary depending on how well the runecrafter and the runners perform.

Method XP/h GP/XP
4 runners (0+4) 240,000 −116.67
3 runners (0+3) 180,000 −116.67
Duo (1+1) 120,000 −58.33

## Levels 27–99: Guardians of the Rift

 5000 1000 10000

The Guardians of the Rift minigame is a fairly efficient and much more engaging way of training Runecraft. In addition to Runecraft experience, the minigame also offers passive Mining and Crafting experience. The minigame is profitable and offers useful rewards, such as the colossal pouch for holding more essence and Raiments of the Eye set for crafting extra runes.

To participate in the minigame, players must have completed Temple of the Eye. The experience gained from completing the quest is enough to get the player from level 10 to 27, which is required for the minigame. There are also a number of quests that are very useful to have completed, which are listed below.

For the fastest experience, players should use the best pickaxe and all essence pouches available. The rune pouch is strongly recommended to save inventory space. Players who do not have the Raiments of the Eye outfit yet are advised to wear any tier of the Varrock armour to have a 10% chance to mine double guardian fragments at once. Players may also make use of the celestial ring if they have it.

Players who have the abyssal lantern should light it with redwood logs if possible. This makes it so the player does not need to repair essence pouches via NPC Contact, which saves 1–3 inventory slots, depending on if the player is using a rune pouch. Players who cannot use redwood logs or are wearing the Runecraft cape are advised to use yew logs for the point boost it provides.

Through Guardians of the Rift players can obtain the Raiments of the Eye set. It provides 10% more runes per piece worn and an additional 20% set bonus, for a total of 60% when wearing a full set. The abyssal needle is used to combine essence pouches into the colossal pouch. It can hold up to 40 essence, making it the best essence pouch to use. Valuable runes obtained through the minigame can be kept for later use or sold on the Grand Exchange for profit.

Experience rates are shown in the table below. The rates assume using all pouches available. From level 85 onwards, the rates assume doing the minigame in small coordinated teams for faster experience.

level XP/h XP/h XP/h
40–50 25,000 2,300 1,200
50–75 40,000 3,700 2,000
75–85 50,000 4,700 2,500
85–99 65,000 6,200 3,200
99 70,000 6,600 3,500

## Levels 1–99: Ourania Altar

Crafting runes at the Ourania Altar (also known as ZMI Altar) offers relatively fast experience. It requires much less effort than crafting combination runes, and it also provides decent profit at higher levels. The altar can be accessed at any Runecraft level. Unlike the other runic altars, the Ourania Altar converts essence into a random assortment of runes, which improves in cash and experience value as the player levels Runecraft.

For this method, players will need to have unlocked the Ourania Teleport on the Lunar spellbook. This requires completion of Lunar Diplomacy and speaking to Baba Yaga while on the Lunar spellbook. The teleport provides the fastest transportation to the altar, and without it the experience rates would be a lot lower. Being on the Lunar spellbook is also needed for casting NPC Contact to quickly repair essence pouches. Having level 71 Magic is strongly recommended to be able to cast both of these spells.

Having the rune pouch is strongly recommended to have more inventory space for the essence. Completing medium tasks in the Ardougne Diary is also recommended for slightly better profit, as the reward increases the amount of runes that are crafted. However, no extra experience is gained.

The official worlds for the Ourania Altar are Worlds 327 and 480. It is recommended to use one of these worlds to reduce damage taken from monsters inside the cave as it will often be filled with other players training Runecraft; all the extra players means the player will have a lower chance of being targeted by the monsters.

Experience rates are shown in the table below. The rates and the experience per essence scale depending on the Runecraft level. At higher levels, the player can expect to make somewhere around 400,000–550,000 coins per hour depending on the rune prices.

### Setup

The optimal setup consists of weight-reducing clothing, some defensive equipment, a ring of endurance with at least 500 charges, a dust battlestaff, and a rune pouch holding payment runes, astral runes, and law runes. The player should use all essence pouches available, and drink stamina potions to restore run energy.

To quickly access the bank, players need to pay 20 of any kind of rune (excluding combination runes) by setting a quick-payment deal with Eniola. Mind runes or any elemental runes are usually the cheapest to use for the payment. Players will also need to clear their rune and essence pouch space holders, and fill the entire bank with bank fillers. This way, players can quickly deposit all the crafted runes without depositing any necessary items.

For efficient banking, players should have essence, 1-dose stamina potions, and cosmic runes near the 'Deposit inventory' button.

Players who find that they are taking a lot of damage can wear the Hitpoints cape along with a regen bracelet. This will most likely outheal any damage taken. Lower-level players are advised to bring more defensive equipment (such as wearing a black d'hide body and a helm of neitiznot) and use cheap food to heal themselves if needed.

The dust battlestaff provides runes for both Ourania Teleport and NPC Contact spells. Should the player not have a dust battlestaff, any staff that provides earth runes for the Ourania Teleport should be used, and air runes should be used for payment. Players who do not have level 71 Magic to cast Ourania Teleport can use the respective teleport tablets instead, though this will require an extra inventory slot.

At level 75 Runecraft and higher, players may opt to replace law runes in the rune pouch with cosmic runes. This makes it so the player does not have to withdraw cosmic runes for casting NPC Contact, and at higher levels it is very unlikely that the player will not craft any law runes at the altar.

### Runecrafting and tips

 16000 16000 16000

Starting at the bank, run to the altar using the shorter route by running south and then east. Craft runes at the altar until you have run out of essence. Cast Ourania Teleport, run south-west to the ladder and climb down, and bank at Eniola. If you are low on energy, you may click the prayer altar, cast Spellbook Swap (right click and select Arceuus) and Vile Vigour while running to it, and recharge prayer points (neither cast resets the altar target).

Most of the time you will need to drop some cheap low-tier runes to make inventory space for more pure essence if using 3 or 4 pouches. It is faster experience per hour to drop runes than craft an extra time or miss out on a few pure essence per inventory. The runes you craft go to inventory by order: lower-tier runes go to top left and higher-tier bottom right. It is thereby convenient to place the essence pouches in the 2nd and 3rd rows, as the low-tier runes will always go to the top row after a first craft, making it easier to see which runes should be dropped. The number of runes you will need to drop can be visualised by drawing a line below the pouches: the number of runes that go below that line is the number of runes you will need to drop.

Turn off Auto Retaliate and set NPC 'Attack' options to 'Hidden', so that you do not accidentally start attacking NPCs in the cave or retaliate against them.

Turning the camera south allows for easy vision while running to the ladder and throughout the cave.

If there are multiple players training Runecraft in the same world, the player can get to the altar with less effort by trading or using an item on other players running to the altar, provided that they do not stop at all. Following other players (instead of trading or using an item on them) is not recommended, as players can get stuck behind walls if there is enough distance between them.

## Levels 77–99: Crafting blood/soul runes in Arceuus

From level 77 onwards the player can train Runecraft in Arceuus by crafting blood runes at level 77, or soul runes at level 90. It requires significantly less attention compared to other methods while yielding some profit, and also provides some passive Mining and Crafting experience. However, it is less profitable than Abyss runecrafting methods and offers worse experience rates than crafting lava runes.

Players will need to have 100% Arceuus favour, a chisel (can be obtained at the runestone mine), and a pickaxe of any kind for this method. It is also strongly recommended to have a high Agility level (78+ recommended) and the graceful outfit for faster run energy restoration. Level 73 Agility is required for the western rock scramble shortcut.

Completion of the Medium Kourend & Kebos Diary will grant the player 5% chance to mine 2 dense essence blocks at once (but no additional crafting/mining experience is gained), which increases overall experience rates slightly. A higher Mining level is also slightly helpful, as the essence stone depletes less frequently with a higher Mining level. The special attack of the Dragon or Crystal pickaxes can be used to boost the player's Mining level above level 99, but otherwise the type of pickaxe does not matter for mining dense essence blocks, as blocks are only obtained every 9 ticks.

From 77–99 Runecraft, players can expect to gain around 1,646,000 Crafting and 1,235,000 Mining experience, if crafting blood runes from 77–90 and immediately moving on to soul runes at 90. If solely crafting blood runes, players can expect around 1,892,000 Crafting and 1,420,000 Mining experience. If the Medium Kourend diary is completed, the experience lowers to about 1,607,000/1,175,000 and 1,877,000/1,352,112 Crafting/Mining experience, respectively.

### Runecrafting

Starting at the Arceuus essence mine, mine a full inventory of dense essence blocks, use them on the Dark Altar to create dark essence blocks. Run back to the essence mine and use a chisel on the dark essence blocks to create dark essence fragments while running back to the mine. Mine a second inventory of essence blocks, use them on the Dark Altar, chisel 1 dark essence block and head to the runic altar. Craft runes at the altar, chisel the second inventory of dark essence blocks into fragments, craft runes once more and return to the essence mine.

Using the Abyss is slightly faster than running to the altar if the player has very high Agility and Mining levels (95+ recommended), but it is riskier and requires slightly more effort. If using the Abyss to get to the altar, players will need to wear an amulet of glory and have spare ones in the bank for teleporting to Edgeville. It is advised to bank the runes every so often to reduce the risk, and drink stamina potions to keep run energy up. In order to craft blood or soul runes via the Abyss, players must use a dark essence block on the rifts after creating blood or soul runes at the altar before being able to use it.

Players who have completed the elite tasks of the Lumbridge & Draynor Diary and have a revitalisation pool and fairy ring in their player-owned house can alternatively use Teleport to house to make the procedure slightly faster and remove the need for the graceful outfit. A construction cape or rune pouch with law, dust, and an empty spot for the crafted runes will allow for no lost inventory slots. For blood runecrafting, after making a second inventory of dark essence blocks teleport to your house, restore run energy with the pool, use the fairy ring CIS and run to the altar. For soul runecrafting, after crafting runes at the altar teleport to your house, restore run energy with the pool, use the fairy ring CIS and return to the essence mine.

### Levels 77–90/99: Blood runes

Run a few steps west of the Dark Altar, then click on the other side of the fence as shown above. This will get you around 2/3rds of the way to the Blood Altar without clicking again.

At level 77, players can craft blood runes that yield 23.8 experience per dark essence fragment, adding to a total of 24.425 experience. Players can gain up to 40,000 experience per hour if using the Abyss, or 37,000 experience per hour if running to the altar.

Players that have completed the elite tasks of the Kourend & Kebos diary will receive 10% additional blood runes, however no extra experience is given.

Tip: If you are running to the altar, click on the minimap to get to the Blood Altar with fewer clicks.

• Experience needed (77–90): 3,870,751
• Blood runes crafted: 158,475
• № of inventories (204 fragments per inventory): 777
• Total profit: 58,001,850

Blood runecrafting can also be done from 77 to 99 for greater profit but less experience per hour than soul runes.

• Experience needed (77–99): 11,558,850
• Blood runes crafted: 473,239
• № of inventories (204 fragments per inventory): 2,320
• Total profit: 173,205,474
• Blood runes crafted with the full Raiments of the Eye outfit: 757,182
• Total profit with the full Raiments of the Eye outfit: 277,128,612

With Blood essence, one can expect around a 50% increase in blood runes crafted with no additional experience granted.

• Approximate number of additional blood runes crafted from 77–99 with blood essence, without the Raiments of the Eye outfit: 236,619
• Total number of blood runes crafted from 77–99 with blood essence, without the Raiments of the Eye outfit: 709,858
• Approximate number of blood essence needed from 77–99: 237
• Approximate total number of coins earned using blood essence: 259,808,028
• Approximate cost of 237 blood essence: −59,137,662
• Approximate net profit made using blood essence from 77–99, without the Raiments of the Eye outfit: 200,670,366

The effects of the Raiments of the Eye outfit and blood essence stack additively, allowing one to earn an even greater profit when using them together. The Raiments of the Eye outfit provides a 1.6x boost to blood runes crafted, and blood essence approximately provide a 1.5x boost to blood runes crafted. Together, they provide a 2.1x boost (1.6x + 0.5x) to blood runes crafted.

• Approximate total number of blood runes crafted from 77–99 with blood essence and the Raiments of the Eye outfit: 993,801
• Approximate number of blood essence needed from 77–99 with the Raiments of the Eye outfit: 237 (same as without outfit, due to the effect stacking additively not multiplicatively)
• Approximate total number of coins earned using blood essence with the Raiments of the Eye outfit: 363,731,166
• Approximate cost of 237 blood essence: −59,137,662
• Approximate net profit made from 77–99 using blood essence with the Raiments of the Eye outfit: 304,593,504

### Levels 90–99: Soul runes

At level 90, you can craft soul runes that yield 29.75 experience per dark essence fragment, adding to a total of 30.375 experience. Players can gain up to 48,000 experience per hour if using the Abyss, or 45,000 experience per hour if running to the altar. While slightly higher experience than crafting blood runes, it is significantly less profitable due to more varied uses and much higher demand of blood runes.

Players with high agility, the Graceful outfit, and a charged Ring of endurance should not use the Abyss method and instead run to the altar.

• Experience needed (90–99): 7,688,099
• Soul runes crafted: 253,107
• № of inventories (204 fragments per inventory): 1,241
• Total profit: 53,658,684

## Information for other methods

### Abyss runecrafting

Runecraft training methods involving the Abyss offer the slowest experience, but usually the best profit. Before you can enter the Abyss, you will need to complete the Enter the Abyss miniquest.

Your runecrafting success in the Abyss is based on your respective level (as well as having the appropriate tool) used to clear an obstacle to get to the inner ring. Your Agility and Mining level are most commonly tested, as your teleport destination will likely be nearby one of the obstacles requiring them. When playing optimally, it is possible to make approximately 50 runs an hour through the Abyss.

For more information about runecrafting through the Abyss, see Abyss/Strategies.

### Using Daeyalt Essence

Since the release of Sins of the Father, players with 60 Mining are now able to mine Daeyalt shard in the Daeyalt essence mine.

These shards stack, are untradable and can be exchanged for Daeyalt essence in a 1:1 ratio. You can mine at least 4,400 Shards an hour. Daeyalt essence can be used like regular Rune essence and Pure essence but provides a 50% bonus to runecrafting experience when used. You can store them in essence pouches and use them at the Ourania Altar (the experience bonuses stack; see Daeyalt essence). You cannot use Daeyalt essence to craft Blood runes or Soul runes at their respective altars on Kourend, but can still craft them via the Ourania altar, or the True Blood altar.

The efficiency can be calculated using this formula:

${\displaystyle {\frac {1.5}{1+{\frac {X}{Y}}}}}$ Where ${\displaystyle X}$ is Essence used per hour and ${\displaystyle Y}$ is shards mined per hour.

Example:

Someone uses up 2538 essence per hour at the Ourania Altar[1], and it is possible to mine at least 4400 Shards at Daeyalt essence mine per hour.

This results in ${\displaystyle \approx 0.95128}$ or ${\displaystyle 95.128\%}$ efficiency. That means, in this example, spending the time to mine Daeyalt essence and then crafting it, yields ${\displaystyle 95.128\%}$ of the experience you would get if you were to craft runes using bought Pure essence instead.

While the efficiency is below 100% most of the time, it is still a somewhat AFK alternative to training runecrafting. Since you can spend one third of your training time afk mining, then only two thirds of the time actively running the Essence to any Altar while still getting (for example) 95% of the Experience you would normally get.

It also has to be noted that, since one is using less essence per experience and receiving the pet is rolled per Essence used - using Daeyalt essence for 99 Runecrafting decreases your chance of receiving a Rift guardian pet before level 99 significantly.

## Other methods

### Levels 1–77: Arceuus Library

Helping customers in the Arceuus Library is a viable Runecraft training method that has no requirements and is suitable for all account types. This method is recommended for skill pures and Ultimate Ironmen, because of the lack of requirements and pure essence.

Head to the Arceuus Library, and help either Sam, Villia or Professor Gracklebone (you have to alternate between them). They will ask you to find a book in the Library, random from the sixteen different books in total. Ask Biblia on the top floor for a hint on where the requested book is, fetch the book and give it to the customer. The customer will give you a book of arcane knowledge in return. Read it and use option 2 for Runecrafting experience. Once you have 20% Arceuus favour, also help Horphis by finding dark manuscripts in the Library.

Each book of arcane knowledge gives Runecraft experience equal to the Runecraft level times 4. Because of this linear scaling, it is recommended to complete The Abyss miniquest and The Eyes of Glouphrie to get past the initial slow experience. With good performance, players can turn in around 150–160 books per hour when using designated tools to find the books faster, however without them players can only turn in 90–100 books per hour.

Experience rates are shown in the table below. Players can use the Arceuus Library Books Calculator to determine how many books are needed to reach a target level or experience.

level XP/h (150 books/h) XP/h (100 books/h)

### Levels 15–99: Other combination runes

Crafting other combination runes than lava runes offers relatively fast experience. It can also be profitable, however due to the somewhat low trade volume of these runes, they may take long to sell at a good profit.

Crafting mud runes offers slower experience than fire-based combination runes, but they are more profitable. One should use the Balloon Transport System to travel from Castle Wars to outside the Earth Altar.

### Levels 59–82/91: Double cosmic runes

For more information about runecrafting through the Abyss, see Abyss/Strategies.

Crafting double cosmic runes offers very slow experience, but it can yield good profit at lower levels, depending on the rune prices. Players can craft two cosmic runes per pure essence at level 59, and they grant 8 experience per pure essence used. Even though cosmic runes become available at level 27, it is not recommended to craft them before level 59 due to much lower profit. Players must have completed the Lost City quest to be able to craft cosmic runes.

The fastest way of crafting cosmic runes is through the Abyss. Alternatively, players can use the fairy ring to Zanaris and run to the altar, which is slightly slower except if the player has low Mining and/or Agility levels. Players will need to have level 66 Agility for the shortcut and a quick access to a fairy ring, such as the quest point cape, Construction cape or necklace of passage.

It is possible with a Quest Cape or another form of quick fairy ring teleport, 70+ agility it is very much possible to get 60 inventories done/hour with high concentration using essence pouches at Zanaris. If you decide to do the Zanaris method you should be on the lunar spellbook with a rune pouch containing air/dust, astral, and cosmic runes to cast NPC Contact in your bank ready to be pulled out as you replace your ring of dueling. You will also need stamina potions which should be in 1 dose which will break after doing Alfred Grimhand's Barcrawl allowing for faster banking and refueling.

Raiments of the Eye gives a 10% increased rate of an extra rune when crafting for each piece equipped, with a 1.6x multiplier when equipping the full set. It has been noted that should the result not be a perfect divisible of 6 when the full set is equipped, there is an unknown chance that an additional 6 runes will be rewarded.

### Levels 82–91/95/99: Double astral runes

Crafting double astral runes offers fairly slow experience, but it usually yields good profit depending on the rune prices. Players can craft two astral runes per pure essence at level 82, and they grant 8.7 experience per pure essence used. Even though astral runes become available at level 40, it is not recommended to craft them before level 82 due to much lower profit. Players must have completed Lunar Diplomacy to be able to craft astral runes.

The player should use all 4 essence pouches and be on the Lunar spellbook. Use Tele Group Moonclan, run south and click over the river; the pathfinder will find the most efficient path for you to get to the bridge. From the bridge run east to the altar, craft runes and bank at Castle Wars (using a ring of dueling) or Crafting Guild (using the Crafting cape). Once you have teleported to Castle Wars or Crafting Guild, store the astral runes you crafted in your rune pouch while running to the bank chest.

Using a dust battlestaff with law, cosmic, and astral runes in the rune pouch is the best way to negate the need to take out any runes to use Tele Group Moonclan and NPC Contact spells. It also recommended to wear some defensive equipment (such as an amulet of fury and a dragonfire shield) and/or a regen bracelet, because Suqah can hit very accurately against players who are not wearing any armour.

It is also lower effort than abyssal runecrafting, requiring only 3–4 clicks from the Lunar Isle Teleport spot to the Astral Altar.

Players can gain up to 33,000–34,000 experience per hour.

### Levels 91–95/99: Double nature runes

For more information about runecrafting through the Abyss, see Abyss/Strategies.

Crafting double nature runes offers very slow experience, but it can yield good profit depending on the rune prices. Players are able to craft two nature runes per pure essence at level 91, and they grant 9 experience per pure essence. Even though nature runes become available at level 44, it is not recommended to craft them before level 91 due to much lower profit.

Players can craft nature runes through the Abyss, or by using the fairy ring ckr and running to the altar. For the fairy ring method, players will need to have a quick access to a fairy ring that does not take up inventory space, such as quest point cape, Construction cape or necklace of passage; and use a ring of dueling to bank at Castle Wars. The Abyss and fairy ring methods are very similar in speed; players with low Mining and Agility are likely to get higher rates using the fairy ring, and players without fast access to a fairy ring should use the Abyss.

Training Runecraft from level 91 to level 99 using this method requires 792,400 pure essence and yields 1,584,800 nature runes, which can be sold for tremendous profit.

### Levels 95–99: Double law runes

For more information about runecrafting through the Abyss, see Abyss/Strategies.

Crafting double law runes offers very slow experience, but it can yield good profit depending on the rune prices. Players are able to craft two law runes per pure essence at level 95, and they grant 9.5 experience per pure essence used. Even though law runes become available at level 54, it is not recommended to craft them before level 95 due to much lower profit.

The fastest way of crafting law runes is through the Abyss. However, players cannot bring any weapons or armour as the Law Altar is located on Entrana. This can be overcome by bringing a bronze pickaxe to every trip and dropping it before entering the portal. It is faster to have a pickaxe in the inventory and use the Mining obstacles, than use the Thieving obstacles which do not require any space.

Alternatively, players can use the balloon transport system from Castle Wars to Entrana, run to the altar and bank at Castle Wars. This is slightly slower than using the Abyss, but requires paying less attention. Each trip with a balloon uses a regular log, and it is recommended to store multiple logs into the crates beforehand to save a bit of time. When arriving to Entrana, click straight north and this will result in the pathfinder generating a path to run all around the island, which can then be cancelled after crossing the bridge to get to the Law Altar.

Training Runecraft from level 95 to level 99 using this method requires 448,724 pure essence and yields 897,448 law runes, which can be sold for tremendous profit.

### Levels 95–99: Wrath runes

Crafting wrath runes offers fairly slow experience, but it usually yields good profit. To be able to craft wrath runes, players must have completed Dragon Slayer II. Players will also need to run past aggressive dragons, so dragonfire protection is necessary.

Players can gain up to around 30,000 experience per hour. At this rate, players would also make 1,056,750.00 profit per hour at the current rune prices. Using this method from level 95 to 99 would take around 140 hours and would offer roughly 148,575,000 profit.

#### Setup and runecrafting

The optimal setup consists of the following:

For efficient banking, players should have essence, 1-dose stamina potions, runes for NPC Contact, and some cheap food near the 'Deposit inventory' button. Players are also recommended to clear their mythical cape and essence pouch space holders, and fill the entire bank with bank fillers. This way, players can quickly deposit all the crafted runes without depositing any necessary items.

This method goes as follows:

1. Fill pouches and inventory with essence.
2. Teleport to Myths' Guild with the mythical cape.
3. Run through cave and into altar.
4. Craft wrath runes.
5. Teleport to a bank, and repeat the process. Drink stamina potions, eat food as needed, and repair the essence pouches as needed.
