A redwood tree is a rare lumber tree that requires level 90 Woodcutting to cut, granting 380 Woodcutting experience for each set of redwood logs received. Two scaffolded redwood trees can be found in the Woodcutting Guild, allowing access to the cuttable sections by climbing up one of the rope ladders. The high difficulty of cutting redwood trees, along with their long depletion timers and moderate experience rate, make them the ideal trees to cut for low-attention training.

Tree locations

Two levels of scaffolding are built around the redwood trees in the Woodcutting Guild, allowing players to reach the sections of the tree that can be cut. The first level is accessible via rope ladders at the very bottom, located on the east and west sides of the tree. The second level is accessed via carved entrances, located on the side closest to the other redwood tree. Each side that does not have a carved entrance has 2 sections to chop, totaling to 12 sections per tree and 24 sections overall.

Redwood trees are considered rare trees for the purpose of the rare trees minimap icon .

Mechanics

Uniquely, players can only obtain clue nests from redwoods, not seed, ring, or egg bird nests; this also means that the strung rabbit foot and Woodcutting cape perk have no effect when chopping redwood trees.

A section of a redwood tree will deplete after 440 ticks (4 minutes and 24 seconds) of chopping; the depletion timer regenerates if players stop cutting the tree before it is fully chopped. Once depleted, it will take 199 ticks (119.4 seconds) to respawn.

A roll to receive a log is done every 4 game ticks when chopping. The chance to successfully chop is affected by the axe used and Woodcutting level: better axes and a higher woodcutting level increases the likelihood of successfully receiving a log.

Additional Drops

• Beaver – Redwood trees have a chance to drop the beaver Woodcutting pet. At level 90 Woodcutting there is a 1 in 70,071 chance to receive the beaver and a 1 in 69,846 chance at level 99. With the Lumberjack outfit on, this equates to 27,205,017 experience on rate.
• Clue nest – Redwood trees have a chance of dropping any tier of clue nest, based on Woodcutting level, the tree's base chance, and access to the reward tiers of Combat Achievements. See Clue nest § Woodcutting rates for a detailed breakdown.

Farming

With level 90 Farming, exclusively in the advanced tier of the Farming Guild, redwood tree seeds may be grown into a Redwood tree, which gives redwood logs when cut down. Checking on a fully grown and healthy redwood tree will give 22,450 Farming experience. It takes 4 days to grow. When cut down, the tree will automatically regrow after a period of time. Unlike most lumber trees, it cannot be dug up using a spade, and must be cleared by Alexandra for 2000 coins. A player may also pay her six dragonfruit to guarantee its growth.

Lore

There are several mentions of redwood trees by NPCs around Gielinor as well as in books. The following text is transcluded from Gielinor's flora - trees. The information found within the book is more often than not just flavour text, and does not reflect their properties or uses within the game itself.

Exceptionally large conifer trees and in fact the largest and tallest trees in the world. These trees can live thousands of years. Native to the Kingdom of Great Kourend, these trees are unfortunately extinct in the wild due to heavy deforestation caused by the early settlers of the land. Thankfully, due to conservation efforts by the people of Hosidius, a small number of redwoods can be found in controlled environments.
