RuneScape:Administrator requests

What this page is for[edit source]

  • Protecting/unprotecting pages. Highly visible pages or content that may have links from outside websites are encouraged to have some level of protection. This can also include a request for administrators to try and calm down an edit war. This should be done according to the Runescape:Protection policy.
  • Moving/renaming protected pages and files. Due to vandals' mis-use of the page move tool, some pages are protected from being renamed except by an administrator. If you can make a compelling case for a page move, or consensus has been reached on the respective discussion page related to the page you think needs to be renamed, formal requests for the page move can happen here. New contributors to this wiki or "anonymous" users wishing to rename a page that don't have the page move option available to them yet are also welcome to make such requests on this page.
  • Minor edits to protected pages. This is mostly on protected templates that can have a substantial impact on the whole wiki if they are changed, so caution is urged when they are modified.
  • Announcements that are intended to be across the whole wiki. This appears on MediaWiki:Sitenotice, and should be something that would be of interest to the whole community.
  • Importing pages from another wiki. While seldom used for content on this wiki, this is an option that is available for bringing in content from another wiki and preserving its edit history, which requires administrator rights. This may take some time, so be patient if you wish to make this sort of request. MediaWiki importing tools can sometimes be buggy, so be gentle on volunteer administrators doing this task.
  • Reporting vandals and spammers. Regular editors are encouraged to revert the vandalism or spam as quickly as possible, and alert an administrator to block the problematic user in order to prevent further damage.
  • Hiding revisions and/or edit summaries. In the case of blatant copyright violations, significantly offensive material, identity establishing information, or any other content that poses a major risk to the wiki or its editors, the revision(s) may be hidden using Special:RevisionDelete.
  • General questions to the administrators of this wiki. You might get a faster reply by posting on the User help page; however, the administrators here will try to help you to the best of their abilities.

What this page is not for[edit source]

  • Problems that do not require administrator tools to complete. Instead, please visit the user help page.
  • Requests to become an administrator. If you are interested in learning what an administrator does or how you can become one, please visit the Administrators page for information about administrators and Requests for adminship page for the process to become an administrator.
  • General discussions about administrator behaviour. Most policy discussions, including policies that govern administrators, ought to be started on the Redwood Grove and kept to that forum for input from the larger Old School RuneScape Wiki community.
  • Minor requests for deletion. If you've accidentally duplicated content or wish to just clean up a mess you've made on the wiki, you should simply tag the page with {{D|Reason(s) for nomination}}.

Note: Please only make requests on this page that specifically require sysop tools to fulfil.
Make sure to sign and date your request by typing four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your message.

On the home page, when you click on the big square for the newest game update[edit source]

On the home page, when you click on the big square for the newest game update, it takes you to the quest guide for the quest specifically, but its supposed to be the following link which shows the article for the entire update, right ? it took me a minute to find the one with the game updates https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Update:Secrets_of_the_North_%26_More! <-- correct link

https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Secrets_of_the_North <---- current link (I believe is incorrect)

It's intentional. See my comment at Template talk:Old School RuneScape Wiki/Recent Updates#Link to Giants' Foundry update instead of quest. Shayani (talk) 08:22, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

Raids and D&D in Template:SCP[edit source]

Could we please have raids and D&Ds added to Template:SCP?

We can currently do Quest points Quests and Kourend Favour Kourend favour, but not Raids Lobby icon.png Raids or Distraction & Diversion icon.png Distractions and Diversions. What you see there is about as good as it gets, unfortunately.

Drop Sources isn't returning farming levels[edit source]

Template:Drop sources is not currently returning the farming level required to grow produce. See this example:

For an exhaustive list of all known sources for this item, see here.

  Prayer icon (detail).png DrYoshiyahu     06:04, 22 February 2023 (UTC)

Okay, Cook made some changes to Template:Farming info to make it set those variables properly now. However, to make it show up we need to remove all the |version=Grown parameters from drops lines on Farming plant pages, like I did here. Any desire to fix the other 70ish pages the same way or want me to sort it out? List should be here: link. BigDiesel2m (talk) 07:15, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
I can do that. 👍   Prayer icon (detail).png DrYoshiyahu     02:07, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
Oh, never mind. I changed it on the first page in the list and all that happened was the removal of a footnote on the page. Neither Leaves nor Redwood logs are showing the farming level. I should probably leave it to the experts in this case, I think. 🤔   Prayer icon (detail).png DrYoshiyahu     02:13, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
Alright. Disregard the previous message. I've removed the code from every page on that list.   Prayer icon (detail).png DrYoshiyahu     02:48, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

Construction Page (Mythical Cape Stand)[edit source]

Howdy folks,

Just wanted to make it aware that there is an error on the construction page regarding the mythical cape stand in the POH. Currently the guide says the cape will be consumed and you need 1000s of capes however that is not the case.

Thanks! 00:23, 24 March 2023 (UTC)

Edit blocked[edit source]

I was trying to update the Kinshra page but my edit was blocked for "offensive language". Ad7002407 (talk) 08:06, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

It is a false positive; your edit itself is fine. I suggest rewording the quote of Varrok Museum's display 4, maybe to something like "However, 1 group ..." or "a group" - or completely remove that sentence and use something like "[The Black Knights] had originally proved cooperative ..." Gaz talk 09:21, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
Ok. Thanks. Ad7002407 (talk) 19:09, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

Very minuscule spelling mistake[edit source]

The word encyclopedia is spelled with an extra a between the e and p on the home page

This is not a spelling mistake. Encyclopædia was historically spelled with an æ (pronounced ash). In modern times, American English co-opts "encyclopedia" whereas British English (the dialect the wiki uses) prefers the use of "encyclopaedia". Owl (1).pngOwl (t | c) • 03:40, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

Goblin drop table 2[edit source]

Hi,

I believe there is a mistake in Drop Table 2 for goblins. I have over 340 kills of specifically level 2 goblins with Drop Table 2 done during Rag and Bone Man I, however no goblin skulls have dropped. (All in the Goblin Cave by the Fishing Guild) I don't know if this is true for all goblins with that drop table, or just the level 2 goblins, but I am certain it is not a 1/4 drop for them at the very least.

I know how this sounds, but I can assure you I:

  • Don't already have a skull on my person/in my bank. (I'm playing on a UIM anyway)
  • Have started Rag and Bone Man I with no obvious bugs. (I confirmed this moments later by getting a ram skull)
  • Was definitely on a Members World. (I was in a Members area to get the kills)

Another comment I've seen supporting this sort of claim is in the Rag and Bone Man I quest guide for goblin skulls: "(the goblins at the farm south of Varrock do not drop the bone)" This refers to the level 5 goblin "Between Lumbridge and Varrock" I guess, which would imply this is true for all goblins with that drop table. (No idea what evidence backs this comment up though)

Anyway, hope you figure this out! Cheers, Pangbot (talk) 13:49, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

A template that is neither {{Yes}} nor {{No}}[edit source]

{{Yes}} and {{No}} have excellent functionality, and are useful in a surprising number of applications. However, the one thing they are not good for is nuance.

There are a few cases on the wiki, such as Tombs of Amascut/Strategies#Ba-Ba's Invocations and Game Jam#Concepts, where a third option that is neither yes or no would be fantastic. Such a template could be called "Maybe", for instance, and would be yellow or amber.

{{Yes}} and {{No}} were made using global CSS classes, so only an admin could make a new template with the same approach.

1 2 3
Yes No Partially
True Maybe False
Not recommended Recommended Optional

  Prayer icon (detail).png DrYoshiyahu     16:48, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

Template:NA exists, though it might not quite fit your concept with the yellow/amber colour and whatnot. Would that work or would you still prefer to have a new template for a middle ground? BigDiesel2m (talk) 16:55, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
Not quite, no. I just learned that the custom CSS table already exists as part of a default set, so if I have permission, I'm happy to make the template myself.   Prayer icon (detail).png DrYoshiyahu     16:59, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
Excuse me, I was mistaken. class table-bg-yellow exists but {{Yes}} and {{No}} are more specific than just that.   Prayer icon (detail).png DrYoshiyahu     17:16, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for doing this for me, BigDiesel2m! Looks good.   Prayer icon (detail).png DrYoshiyahu     18:56, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
Glad I was able to help. I'm still not thrilled with how the yellow-on-yellow looks, particularly in light-mode where the text is a bit hard to read. If you or anyone else more artistically-inclined has suggestions on how to improve the css here, I'm all ears. BigDiesel2m (talk) 19:01, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

Unable to edit Module namespace pages[edit source]

Cloudflare is preventing me from editing existing modules, creating new modules, or adding new lines to a module if the line contains or 1 in an if statement. I was trying to add a new column to {{Uses material list}}, but wanted to sandbox it first. There I was getting blocked, and I thought last night I narrowed it down to the basic functions (e.g. tonumber, tostring, type) preventing me. (See https://discord.com/channels/177206626514632704/269673599554551808/1105380700930183241 for context.) However, from testing on my personal Module:Sandbox/User:Sylphoid, I found that it does not like line 118 when copied from the Module:Uses_material_list#L-118. I cannot even type that line here on this request as plaintext because I get blocked as well. I think this is the root issue, as I'm not sure what else I can debug. What is going on?

The latest Ray ID I wrote down is 7c4c6ab0aef0d049. Sylphoid (talk) 19:51, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

Special:AbuseLog says the filter description was Block advertisement spam. (The filter doesn't seem to exist now, or is hidden.) Looking at the screenshot and your user page, without previous knowledge of what the filter does or did at that time, I will take a guess it flagged one of your external links (possibly to Discord) as spam. However, Special:AbuseFilter/22 should've allowed this (if editing while logged in). The filter seemed to be working as intended? 84.250.15.152 09:58, 24 August 2023 (UTC)

Medium Clues from Skeleton Mages (lvl 83)[edit source]

The wiki doesn't specify that the drop rate for Medium clues on the Skeleton Mages at level 83 differs from the drop rate on Skeleton Mages (lvl 16) I have taken out several thousand lvl 83 Skeleton Mages and have received 0, I repeat, not a single Medium Clue. I would like the the wiki to be edited or to be Reassured that the Skeleton Mages at lvl 83 do indeed drop the medium clue

Thank You Runescape people

Sivilyan  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sivilyan (talk) on 18:29, 15 May 2023 (UTC).

No administrative action required here, the right place to bring up the issue would be Talk:Skeleton mage. However, 15 minutes after your message, Special:Diff/14408167 edit was made to Skeleton mage article, due to apparent confusion with Skeleton (mage) found in Tarn's Lair, which do drop medium clues.

Edit of the tithe farm page erroneously flagged[edit source]

Recent changes "group changes by page" option bugged?[edit source]

I was taking a look through the Recent changes section when I noticed something off with edits made by IP addresses. All edits done by them visually appear to have been done by the exact same address, even though this is not the case. I tested this with ReadableRC enabled and disabled, when I was signed out, on another browser, etc. and this bug still appeared. Only when I looked at the page on my phone (with mobile view enabled) did the bug not appear (which has grouping results disabled). Only after noticing this and turning the "group changes by page" option off did the bug not appear on desktop. I suspect there must be something wrong with this option. Could someone take a look into it? YoshiFan12 (talk) 04:14, 22 May 2023 (UTC)

@YoshiFan12: This should now be fixed. jayden 12:14, 26 May 2023 (UTC)

Relic unlock[edit source]

Relic Unlock should actually be Relic unlock. It's the only emote whose wiki article doesn't use the same capitalisation as the in-game emote, where it does not have a capital U. None of the various iterations of this emote (Area unlock, Shattered unlock, etc) have a capitalised second word. Use (talk) 18:22, 23 May 2023 (UTC)

I don't know what's happening with my account[edit source]

I need help, desperately. So, my OSRS character is Steran and for some reason I can't login to the regular Runescape website? If I login through Runelite, I can access my character and that's fine. The website doesn't recognize my email address, and my password reset request was denied. I can access my character, and my character has an active membership in OSRS (I'm not sure if it's different with Rs3 because I prefer OSRS). I play casually, so I'm not online often, but I want to make sure my account is secure. Whenever I tried to go and change my account settings, it would have me login through the regular Runescape portal, which doesn't recognize my character name nor my password which I believe is strange. I don't think I have a Jagex account, I don't believe I was ever upgraded to one. So I can't change my email or anything. Please help me, I'd greatly appreciate it and I want to keep my character.

6/21/2023 Steran (talk) 20:41, 21 June 2023 (UTC)

Might have to do with the jagex account upgrade they made recently. Here's some info I found: newspost on jagex website. But this wiki isn't jagex so I'm not sure how much we can help. You might want to hop into the wiki discord and ask there? EDIT: No wiki discord wont be of much help unfortunately. 89.200.14.221 05:30, 22 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi Khaled. Sorry, but we are not actually able to help with Jagex account issues. The RuneScape Wikis are a separate entity from Jagex, so we cannot make any changes to your account. After re-installing Windows, it's unlikely that you have a virus, unless you installed from compromised media, or re-downloaded a trojan program. After a bit of research, it looks like Jagex says "It's not currently possible to change the name or email address you use to log in." on their "change email" form. I don't know how Jagex Accounts affect this, but they do list "improved security" as a benefit. —Logg(talk) 16:56, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

Autofocus on search field when on the home page[edit source]

An idea I got from using the RS3 wiki. When you load the homepage of the wiki, the cursor should autofocus on the search field, like it does on runescape.wiki.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Madmonk (talk) on 21:42, 17 August 2023 (UTC).

Both rsw:MediaWiki:Gadget-searchfocus.js and the local MediaWiki:Gadget-searchfocus.js are the same, so they should work. However in my experience, just like you're experiencing, the element with ID searchInput exists but does not get focus on OSRS wiki. Okay, I figured this out. Special:GadgetUsage tells the searchfocus gadget is not enabled by default on OSRS Wiki, but is enabled by default on RSW at rsw:Special:GadgetUsage. Administrators: Could you please change the searchfocus gadget to be enabled by default for all users, without changing user preferences?  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.250.15.152 (talk) on 10:39, 24 August 2023 (UTC).
See this reply from Shayani comment for some context on why it is not enabled by default. Ostentatio (talk) 10:46, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
Additionally, as a meta note: The gadget isn't enabled at all on classicrsw:Special:GadgetUsage, and is enabled by default at ptrsw:Special:GadgetUsage. 84.250.15.152 10:47, 24 August 2023 (UTC)

Special:AbuseFilter/6 false positive[edit source]

Special:AbuseFilter/6 prevents me from adding Template:Overhead wrapping around Troll (2014 April Fools) phrases. This is a false positive. 84.250.15.152 09:30, 24 August 2023 (UTC)

PS: Some of those phrases could be moved to e.g. Transcript:Troll (2014 April Fools), so I assume the same abuse filter disallow rule could occur there. For the original page and abuse filter, & pageid != 241317 could be used. 84.250.15.152 09:43, 24 August 2023 (UTC)

Hi, to add authenticator to your Jagex account, navigate to https://www.runescape.com/authenticator, ensure that the URL is the real runescape.com website, then follow the onscreen prompts to enable authenticator properly. P.S. The RuneScape Wikis are not an official customer support channel for Jagex. None of the volunteers here have the ability to "fix it on our side". —Logg(talk) 06:36, 25 September 2023 (UTC)
