Welcome to the Old School RuneScape Wiki User Help page. This page is here to offer a central location for those who are participating with the development of this wiki to make general requests for help. For admin help, click here.

Note for requesters - Once a solution has been presented and implemented, please add a comment signifying completion, if the request hasn't already been archived. This is to help other users know when to archive completed requests.

Instructions[edit source]

What this page is for[edit source]

  • Coding help. Requesting help with writing templates, making a nice user page, or any questions on writing wiki-code can be asked here and users will help to the best of their ability.
  • Requests for non-administrative actions. If help is required with an action (such as moving a page), asking users here for help with that action is acceptable.
  • Questions on how the wiki works. All the policies and processes in use on the Old School RuneScape Wiki may seem a little overwhelming at first. If you need help in understanding any of the policies, or more in depth instructions on a process, asking here is a good start.
  • Other questions to the users of the wiki. - While the Redwood Grove is often a better place, a simple question may be asked here for a quick response.
  • An all-in-one place to put things. Many of the Wiki's procedures are lesser-known, so putting a note here is a good way to do something if the correct procedure is not known.

What this page is not for[edit source]

  • Requests for actions involving administrator tools. Please use Admin requests for such requests.
  • Larger discussion with other users on policies or other wide-ranging actions. The Redwood Grove is a more suitable location to discuss larger changes to the Wiki's policies, procedures and high-use templates.
  • General chat (about Old School RuneScape or not). General chat about Old School RuneScape (or an off-topic subject) should be taken to individual user talk pages, or article talk pages when applicable.

Request to link highlighting[edit source]

I use the highlight function to mark tasks from trailblazers (and quests/skill req on my main) that I've done. Is it possible to have these linked to your account so it would show up across computers?  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jbp223 (talk) on 20:47, 7 November 2020 (UTC).

Hey! Unfortunately there's no way right now to sync this across multiple computers, even if you're logged into the same wiki account - it's entirely done with LocalStorage. ʞooɔ 21:00, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

Grand Exchange Market Watch database access[edit source]

What is the best way to access the Grand Exchange price and volume data, of all time, in some sort of database format? Is there a public database available or are their specific pages that can be scraped?  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.30.67.133 (talk) on 09:19, 13 November 2020 (UTC).

Hitting pages like https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Module:Exchange/Rune_scimitar/Data?action=raw is going to be your best bet. It's not exactly schematic, but the format is unix_time:price:[volume]. ʞooɔ 09:23, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Shop stock recolour[edit source]

Taken from Forum:Stores containing 0 inventory of an Item:

I've been using the wiki considerably more extensively due to the leagues release and I've seen lots of items offered in stores in the bottom of the pages only to find out shortly that the store contains 0 inventory on an item making it useless. Is it possible to draw up the tables to show stores with 0 inventory with a different colour such as red highlight etc? This would make it much clearer regarding what is and isn't available.

Ernest the Chicken Quest points[edit source]

Ernest the Chicken quest reward is 4 Quest points. But if you look that rewards picture it says reward 2 quest points?

https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Ernest_the_Chicken  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 77.223.37.213 (talk) on 17:16, 16 November 2020 (UTC).

I've updated it, the images were known to have updated, but the quest points changed without it being noted in any update changelogs so it wasn't known well until now. Choppe|T 17:20, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
Apparently the in-game image is actually incorrect and the quest still rewards 4 quest points, so there has actually been no change. Choppe|T 17:29, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

Editing Make-over mage page?[edit source]

Hi, I'm new to the wiki editing process so excuse me if this is not the correct place to ask this. I wanted to add some unique dialogue under the Trivia section of the make-over mage page. However, it seems like this page is locked from edits?

Trivia I wanted to add is similar to the Princely outfit/Frog mask.

While wearing any piece of the Farmer's outfit, the mage gives the following dialogue:

"'Fraid I can't see you under all that dirt from farming. You'll have to take your farmer's outfit off before I can give you a makeover."

Thanks! :)

died during monkey madness cant retrive items[edit source]

I cant retrieve items from death  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 2001:1970:4c64:2a00:688b:d822:cf97:8687 (talk) on 23:49, November 18, 2020 (UTC).

Where exactly did you die? If the death happened in an instance there should be a gravestone outside the instance. If for some reason the gravestone is in an inaccessible area, you could travel to Death's Office and ask him to pick up the stuff from your gravestone for a small fee. "Loading Application"[edit source]

Each and every time I try to boot up OSRS (first time playing), it will get stuck on "loading application."

Every. Single. Time.

I swear, I've tried every fix conceivable/every fix on the internet.

Unplugging my second monitor, messing with display settings, reinstalling with different uninstallers, using a VPN, running as administrator, deleting cache, etc.

I am getting quite angry as I was rather excited to start playing but it has proved entirely impossible for me to do so.

Please, help.

Also, forgive me if this is not the right place for this. As I said, I am new.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by PickleFeasting (talk) on 18:59, 19 November 2020 (UTC).

STASH page broken info[edit source]

Adding median values to various loot tables[edit source]

For various loot tables, such as cox, raids clue reward caskets, etc., the expected value is not necessarily a good indicator of how much loot you can actually expect, because it can be very skewed right (i.e., the expected value will be significantly greater than what the average player will obtain). By definition, the average player can expect the median value of loot; I want to add functionality to calculate the median loot value. I would be able to work out the math and coding, but I'm not really sure on questions like how the formatting works or what language to use. If someone could point me in the right direction I could get started on this project which I think would be a very nice addition to the wiki.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.69.56.44 (talk) on 17:58, 24 November 2020 (UTC).

There is currently a way to do this, seen on Skeletal Wyvern, which is average minus specific drops. If you wanted to do a true median loot value, you could make your own module/template. You can do that in a user space, for example I have User:Choppe/Template5 and Module:Sandbox/User:Choppe/Sandbox/Shovel. Once it is complete you would move them to the mainspace to be used. The language is Lua used with the Mediawiki extension Scribunto. The module used for average loot is Module:Average drop value, which might help starting you off on how to create a medium drop value. I'd recommend joining our Meta:Discord if you have specific questions like formatting or have other questions. Choppe|T 18:38, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

decorative sword (red)[edit source]

Hi, I wonder what are the stats of the decorative sword (red). Fandom says it has the same stats of the steel longsword (like all the stats of the red decorative armor) and osrs wiki says it has the same stats as the black longsword. All the red decorative armor has the same stats as steel exept the sword?

Thanks,  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 206.167.189.66 (talk) on 22:40, 27 November 2020 (UTC).

Weak to slash weapons[edit source]

Hey,
ive noticed that both the stab & crush weapons pages have a list of monsters weak to those styles, any chance the slash page could get the same?

also noticed on the rs wiki youre able to get this list yourself like so

—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 202.67.85.237 (talk) on November 28, 2020 (UTC).

The OSRS Wiki no longer displays or uses those categories. Monster weaknesses was a misunderstanding that existed on the OSRS Wiki until very recently due to a lack of understanding of how the game worked. The community now has a better understanding of the combat mechanic and how it works. As such monster weaknesses were removed and replaced by monster attributes. Those categories exist on RS3 because RS3 changed how combat worked with the Evolution of Combat. You can read this reddit post to see the full details. Abyssal Sire Guide[edit source]

Try making your abyssal sire guide not suck complete dick for people trying the boss out for the first time. Maybe, I don't know, TELL people that the poison on the very first stage lingers until you move? Jesus christ, spent so long reading through that wordy ass guide just to die twice before I could even disorient it. Don't even have the motivation to try it again now because I'll have to disregard all the useless info I read here and relearn it from an ACTUAL guide. When should tact and qact be used?[edit source]

I've tried reading Template:Tact/doc and Template:Qact/doc, but honestly I'm still clueless when each one is more appropriate over the other. Any advice? 84.250.12.111 11:14, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

For an example: Transcript:2020 Christmas event. There's game chat messages, chatbox messages about searching ingredients / membership, and things like the boulder becoming decorated. It's a weird mix and mash, some use plain italics, so I'm a bit lost. 84.250.12.111 11:19, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
Qact is usually used to describe actions that occur during a cutscene (example), while tact is used for various things that you probably are familiar with ({{tact|end}}, {{tact|other}}, etc.), but also used to indicate chat box messages (example). There's a full set of guidelines written here. -- Recent uploads SpineTalkContribs 14:23, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, found out about that style guide on my own just now. Resolves the question for me. 84.250.12.111 16:11, 18 December 2020 (UTC)

RuneLite's wiki button takes me to the wrong page[edit source]

Trying to press the wiki button on Bee keeper inside the event redirects me to Spider (Morytania). The URL is https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Special:Lookup?type=npc&id=3235&name=Bee%20keeper&utm_source=runelite&x=11271&y=843&plane=0. 84.250.12.111 12:15, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

Teddy is missing a Trailblazer League location[edit source]

Teddy is missing a Trailblazer League location, and I can't see a reason why it couldn't be Misthalin region. I also can't seem to understand a way to add it. The item can be pickpocketed from the female student at the Digsite after the quest too. How can I add the region to the drop lists? 84.250.12.111 11:07, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

The author of Special:Diff/13990473 fixed it, thanks. I've learned. 84.250.12.111 21:46, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

Database/JSON of (GE tradeable) items?[edit source]

Is there an accessible database in some form, preferably JSON, of a list of OSRS items that either have the GE tradeable attribute or just a list of tradeable items?

I wish to make a script to find the shortest substring that (semi)uniquely identifies an item in GE search. Like "Ranarr seed" can be found with "rr s".

Preferably this would be server accessible so I can just make a cron job and a webpage.

Yourkittenishungry (talk) 13:58, 17 January 2021 (UTC)

There's bulk lists available at Module:GEPrices/data and Module:GEVolumes/data in Lua format, courtesy of Gaz. With a little Lua script turning this into json or whatever is fairly straightforward. Retrieving it can be done with curl and a url in the form ...index.php?title=...&action=raw
Also you can do a semantic mediawiki query with the condition '[[Exchange name::+]]' that will list all items available and all variants. You can experiment on this page. Output formats include json, csv and plain.
It should be possible to access this data externally using the mediawiki web service API. You can experiment on this page (action=ask, format=json). If your use-case will result in many requests, consider caching the result.
Documentation for both are available online, so consult those for details. HTH. --The scribe (T | C) 17:29, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
