Julia

Hello, I'm laagone, also known as Julia. With the departure of Scuzzy, leaving Spine as the only active bureaucrat, I decided to nominate myself for the role. While iN008 is also currently under a nomination, I'd like to offer myself as a candidate in the event his doesn't pass, and if it does, it doesn't hurt to have one more.

As a small introduction: I began actively editing in Spring 2016 and I have been an admin on the wiki for a bit over a year now, during which time I have used its respective tools largely for anti-vandalism. Externally, I have assisted some people with wiki matters, such as correcting false info, who know me as a wiki admin without knowing how to best contribute themselves; I believe being a high-leveled and knowledgeable player as well as a relatively* known figure in the OSRS community helps with this. I have also been more involved with the wiki community in the past year, in particular the Discord server, helping where I can. I avoid being involved in conflict and, if I'm in a position to mediate, aim to resolve the problem without losing my cool.

I consider myself suited to be a bureaucrat. With regards to closing RFAs, I always actively try to be unbiased and consider the viewpoints of everyone involved, even if I have an opinion of my own. I am interested in taking on more responsibility, which would also encompass the de facto duties of OSW bureaucrats, such as handling the Twitter account.

Thank you for your time. --Julia talk 23:54, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

* I'm not a celebrity by any means, but a fair few people know me.

Additional questions

  • Since being a bureaucrat is largely a matter of determining consensus, can you point to places (either from on-wiki discussions or Discord) where you either a. resolved a debate, or b. took a nuanced position on an issue that was influenced by those who had previously posted/discussed the issue? (I'm mostly looking for proxies for how you'd approach finding consensus on a non-obvious thread. ʞooɔ 00:56, 16 January 2020 (UTC)
Apologies for the delayed response — I've had a hard time recalling specific scenarios, and because almost all OSW activity is on the Discord and its search function is not too intuitive for finding specific discussions without keywords, I've yet to come across any. If you include arguments within "debates", there was one event just last night in #general where a topic got off-track for racially sensitive semantics; in the moment I tried to direct people to move on and later contacted one of the people involved with further reasoning on why I temporarily kicked them and how it could have been handled better from the start, which seemed to have resolved the matter.
I'll note if any other relevant events come to mind. Regardless, it would be a mostly new experience for me in the RSW/OSW community. --Julia talk 11:16, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

Discussion

Support - You've been the only other person so far that's taken the initiative to self-nominate, I wish the best for you. iN008talk 21:49, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

Support - There's a gap currently and nobody else wants to fill it so yeah why not. I'm sure you'll do a fine job. -Towelcat (talk) 02:00, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

Support - I see no reason to oppose based on her participation in the Discord channels and her experience as an admin. Shoyrukon (talk) 02:36, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

Support - Julia does a good job separating opinions from facts, and I've seen her give thorough lines of reasoning in discussions without the debates becoming heated or dismissive. Julia isn't extremely vocal about a lot of opinions on controversial wiki topics, and I believe she would be able to determine the consensus of a thread without the appearance of bias. Support - From what little history OSW has for RfAs, Julia's responses have been measured and well-reasoned. It's just unfortunate that she won't necessarily be able to give her opinions on future RfAs without seeming biased. I have confidence in her ability to determine the concensus of an RfA and close them in the future. BigDiesel2m (talk) 21:07, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

Closure - Laagone will become a bureaucrat. -- Recent uploads SpineTalkContribs 00:25, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
