Welcome to the Old School RuneScape Wiki User Help page. This page is here to offer a central location for those who are participating with the development of this wiki to make general requests for help. For admin help, click here.

Note for requesters - Once a solution has been presented and implemented, please add a comment signifying completion, if the request hasn't already been archived. This is to help other users know when to archive completed requests.

Instructions[edit source]

What this page is for[edit source]

  • Coding help. Requesting help with writing templates, making a nice user page, or any questions on writing wiki-code can be asked here and users will help to the best of their ability.
  • Requests for non-administrative actions. If help is required with an action (such as moving a page), asking users here for help with that action is acceptable.
  • Questions on how the wiki works. All the policies and processes in use on the Old School RuneScape Wiki may seem a little overwhelming at first. If you need help in understanding any of the policies, or more in depth instructions on a process, asking here is a good start.
  • Other questions to the users of the wiki. - While the Redwood Grove is often a better place, a simple question may be asked here for a quick response.
  • An all-in-one place to put things. Many of the Wiki's procedures are lesser-known, so putting a note here is a good way to do something if the correct procedure is not known.

What this page is not for[edit source]

  • Requests for actions involving administrator tools. Please use Admin requests for such requests.
  • Larger discussion with other users on policies or other wide-ranging actions. The Redwood Grove is a more suitable location to discuss larger changes to the Wiki's policies, procedures and high-use templates.
  • General chat (about Old School RuneScape or not). General chat about Old School RuneScape (or an off-topic subject) should be taken to individual user talk pages, or article talk pages when applicable.

Suggestion to include KC req for hiscores[edit source]

Noticed that boss pages don't really say what the minimum number of kills to achieve a ranking is - for example, Skotizo 10, Grotesque Guardians 50 etc. Was trying to find out for Bryophyta.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) on 17:13, 22 July, 2020 (UTC).

The info is on Hiscores, but it can be a bit hard to see, so it might be moved to a table format. There aren't any plans to add this data to the boss pages themselves. Imo, this seems a bit strange since this is less "in game" information and more meta. As far as boss kcs go, you need at least 50 kills or completions to show up on the hiscores. For Bryophyta, Chambers of Xeric: Challenge Mode, Hespori, Obor, Skotizo, The Corrupted Gauntlet and TzTok-Jad you only need 10. The Mimic and TzKal-Zuk only need 2 kc. improving js calculators[edit source]

Looking at the Barrows calculator, it doesn't take into account the addition of bolt racks to the drop table when hitting 881+ reward points. I recognize that making JS publicly editable is a bad idea, but is there a place I can submit a pull request to add functionality to existing scripts? TheAtomicOption (talk) 22:39, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

What do you mean it doesn't take bolt racks into account? If you set your "sum of crypt monster combat levels" variable to 230, that gets your reward points above 880, and that puts bolt racks on the table shown. ʞooɔ 22:46, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
After trying again, it seems to be working now with the breakpoint being correctly at 212/213 sum of combat levels (880 total reward pts). This wasn't working for me previously, but as I'm unsure why I'll shrug and just say: thanks for the reply! (though my primary question about if/where code can be contributed remains unanswered) TheAtomicOption (talk)
While the UI uses JavaScript, the calculator itself is actually written in Lua, and can be found at Module:Barrows calculator. If you have any questions about it feel free to leave them here or pop into the Discord and ask there! BigDiesel2m (talk) 00:30, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

How to intepret the 'date number' in historical price data?[edit source]

Hello, I would like to use your historical data for research purposes. However, I am having troubles understanding the date format. For example, in the historical data of exchange bonds Exchange:Old_school_bond, the datapoint for 2 March 22 is '1583107200:4503689' (from what I understand, the format is 'date:price').

What I have tried, though, is that I took the oldest date available and from that date I simply +1'd my way to the last data point, however, the date was off by a few months, thus, data for some days must be absent.

Any suggestions appreciated! Thank you.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) on 18:49, March 2, 2020 (UTC).

the left side of the colon (1583107200) is a Unix timestamp, the right side (4503689) is the price at that time チェン (話し合う) 18:55, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Jad[edit source]

Why the fuck does Jad RANDOMLY spawn on the other side of the fight caves. Normally he always spawns wherever the orange mage dies, but for some awesome reason he spawned in a random location in the caves and 1 hit me so thanks jagex. Imagine making a game 19 years ago and you still cant make something work correctly. Problem loading part of list on "Head slot table" page[edit source]

There is an issue when trying to view the latter part of the list in the "Head slot table" page.

When pressing the "501...564" link at the top of the page, the user is displayed a "Purge this page" message and a confirmation button. Pressing the button returns the user to the original page.

How does one fix such an issue?

Thanks in advance.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) on 08:17, 28 March 2020 (UTC).

Hello! You should be able to click that part on the page now to get to the latter portion. You will have to purge in order to get back to the first 500 entries. It's a temporary fix; I'm going to bug someone now about the possibility to have it simply jump back and forth without having to purge. Legaia2Pla · ʟ · 01:06, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
As a further update, I went and rewrote the slot table template to use a different method of getting the info, so it can get all the items in one table. If you have any issues with it please let us know! :) BigDiesel2m (talk) 06:11, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

Inventory images appearing with black background[edit source]

I am not sure, whether this is an issue to anyone else, but I have noticed that some inventory images across the wiki are beginning to appear with a black background rather than being transparent. An increasing amount, though seemingly random files like File:Iron bar.png appear to me with a black background, though the vast majority (like File:Steel bar.png) still look like they should. Does anyone else experience this glitch or knows what causes it? Exaldin (talk) 11:30, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

It's caused by a Cloudflare rendering error and it's being worked on. --laagone talk 11:32, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

Drop Rate of Nature Runes from Tree Spirits[edit source]

The Tree Spirit pagehad incorrect information about incorrect information about nature rune drops scaling with player combat level, so I removed it. Source:

In the tweet, Ash also provided the drops rates. My question is, what is the proper way to format the drop table showing different drops rates for quantities of the same item?  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by TooMuchDad (talk) on 13:30, 24 April 2020 (UTC).

Remove "Spicey stew" in the search bar of the Wiki[edit source]

I encounter a small typo in the search bar. I was looking for "Spic" and there is a search option for "Spicey stew". I was trying to contribute and remove it, but I think I can't remove it or I don't have the knowledge to do so. The "Spicey stew" has a category of "Spicy stew" which is a little bit redundant and grammatically incorrect. Can anyone remove it for me? I appreciate your help :)

Giant Sea Snake in Royal Trouble, additional information on the wiki[edit source]

Dont have the slayer required to attack this boss (40, i have 29). I did kill the boss with rings of recoil and did not get the quest item drop it was supposed to drop. I did try multiple times and tried to attack the boss to see if that helped.
This could be valuable information for people trying to finish quests without the stats needed. The guide states that you need 40 slayer to damage the boss and that this can be boosted, but somehow the game does not accept the sole use of rings of recoil.
I also filmed this if validation is needed.
add me in game for further questions: VenerableCat  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) on 11:46, 14 May 2020 (UTC).

Many quest bosses do not count for quest completion / progress if they are killed entirely with neutral damage. (rings of recoil or vengeance) The play must deal at least 1 normal damage. (damage from attacking the monster using a weapon) A requirement of "40 Slayer (can be boosted)" means that you could use a Wild pie, for example, to temporarily boost your Slayer level to complete the quest. It does not imply that the boss can be killed with rings of recoil exclusively and the quest completed with a far lower Slayer level than is required to deal normal damage to the boss.

Help with pickpocketing elves[edit source]

I have been farming gold using the pickpocketing elves money making guide since a few days, and i had no trouble at all at first. In the first four days i got about 18 enhanced crystals, and i was using teleport to house tablets to travel back to Prifddinas at my POH. But then i created an eternal teleport crystal, and since then (two days ago) i have been unable to get any more enhanced crystal seeds from pickpockets. Is this supposed to happen? Because i understand that this is something based in luck. Its just that i find it odd that the enhanced seeds stopped appearing specifically after i created the eternal crystal. The money making guide does not say anything about this. I have 99 thieving with skillcape and ardougne hard diary, so i have high chance for successful pickpockets.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) on 12:20 14 May, 2020 (UTC).

RNG is fickle. It IS a 1,024 chance so it's not absurd to go a while without one. To our knowledge there is nothing stopping you from getting more crystals after making the eternal. Jakesterwars (talk) 17:27, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Being Frank (pun intended)[edit source]

Can someone do a bot-run to rename the page "Frank" to "Frank Sinclair" and update all the pages that link to it? There is a new pet bloodveld in Darkmeyer called Frank that needs a new page. (He is located in the house south of the bank) I'll leave the page naming details to whoever handles this. Thank you. --The scribe (T | C) 08:39, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

For naming, we try to follow what the name is in-game. Since Frank Sinclair's in-game name is only Frank, we use that. Things can get tricky when there becomes multiple NPCs or things with the same name, but generally we try to keep the most prominent one (one that would be more likely to be searched) as the default. Since Frank Sinclair is part of a quest and not just a random NPC, he will continue to hold the default name spot. This could change if deemed necessary, however, I believe his name would then be Frank (Murder Mystery) since that's where he's most prominent. Legaia2Pla · ʟ · 20:30, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Item Spawn List[edit source]

Posting this because i don't know if it does exist. Is there a page showing a list (full or partial) of the items that spawn on the world? Like the logs on top of Lumbridge Castle or tomato/cheese at Aggie's House in Draynor Village?  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) on 22:35, 15 June 2020 (UTC).

I fail to see what good it will do to make such a humongously large list. In any case, with the help of some magic incantations, it is quite possible to list all these items (alternatively), at least the ones that are known. Hope that helps. --The scribe (T | C) 19:40, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the help, it was useful. Just created an ironman account, my first time, and was looking for useful items to get started. I think, that list would be good for ironmen, but certainly it is a lot of work.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) on 14:47, June 24, 2020 (UTC).

The automated notice said to contact an administrator, but didn't indicate a way to do so directly. This is the closest page I could find. Is there a more specific way? Hontrou (talk) 19:13, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

I am not the most familiar with the filters, but I think it's the part Every few ticks hits because of "ticks hits" might be triggering "shit" unfortunately. Try rewording that bit and trying it again? Legaia2Pla · ʟ · 19:24, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

Tracing back Grand Exchange Market Watch Index[edit source]

I've been working a bit on the RuneScape:Grand Exchange Market Watch, but I can't say I'm much into the codes at work. My question is that the indices of commonly traded objects, herbs, food, metal and so forth only goes back to 13 June 2020; barely a month. All the data of price history is there, so is it possible to trace back the index a couple of years or so to make them a bit more plausible and valid?

The RS-wikis base 100 is dated back to 9 December 2007 (14 days after the release of the GE, which in OSRS' case should be 12 March 2015) Exaldin (talk) 22:10, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

Hey! So I am not 100% sure, but I think we just need to add more data points to the /data pages of the different market watches. For example, Module:Exchange/Metal Index/Data doesn't have that many data points which is why I think it only goes back to June. As for the next steps, I'm not too sure. I would like to hope that it's as easy as having Gaz's GE Bot add some data? Legaia2Pla · ʟ · 12:46, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
I hope you're right, it does seem like a job for a bot. I mean all the price-data are on the respective Exchange: pages, so it should be possible to establish the indices back to 12 March 2015. Exaldin (talk) 16:22, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
I talked to Gaz about this and he said that it's doable. There just is some additional work that needs to be done to get all the data needed as well as some adjustments that need to occur if we're going to go back as far as we can. The adjustments are for items that might not have existed since the G/E release and present day. If you want to read the little conversation we had, just shoot me a message or something on Discord and I can link it for you to read. :) Legaia2Pla · ʟ · 21:57, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
Forgot to add, the adjustments are just like the ones that you can find on the RSW wiki for any Index that changed, an example can be found on the Food Index: Legaia2Pla · ʟ · 22:00, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

AutoEd[edit source]

Guess I need full protection on these pages in order to load them from my user javascript. Moving the files to a global wiki location is fine too, maybe even preferred, I suppose they could be useful to more wikians. I had to make some changes from the version hosted at Wikipedia, but because of the loading problems these are currently untested. In advance, thanks for the help. --The scribe Eek, a goblin! 09:00, 7 July 2020 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm not too familiar with this; is it giving you an error on your end because these aren't protected? User: namespace .js pages are only editable by that user or sysop, so there shouldn't be any additional protection needed since it would be redundant. Legaia2Pla · ʟ · 14:42, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Investigated some more. Turns out the mw.loader reference documentation had a typo. Removed '/w' from the front of the url, and now it works like intended, I can load the scripts with just one line. I was wrong about the pages needing protection. That comes from the error message I recieved when I tried loading the wrong URL. *blush* Anyways, if anyone else is interested in using the AutoEd tool (you can copy my 'common.js' to try it out), it would probably be a good idea to copy over the rest of the scripts too as that should improve loading times. --The scribe Eek, a goblin! 15:11, 7 July 2020 (UTC)

Bug in module... get the swatter[edit source]

Last revision of Module:Infobox Bonuses has a bug where it doesn't add the 'Magic Damage bonus' property to the semantic wiki. Noticed this while I was looking around trying to find a reasonably _small_ task suited for Lua noobs. --The scribe Eek, a goblin! 01:16, 10 July 2020 (UTC)

Fixed. The module was attempting to set the property values with the percent sign (like "0%"), but Property:Magic Damage bonus is defined to only be numbers, so it was failing. Riblet15 (talk) 23:18, 11 July 2020 (UTC)
Awesome. With that taken care of I've been able to make a prototype SMW-enabled version of the Infotable Bonus template. Rather enjoyable work. See here for what it looks like. The big question now is what it will take to deploy this (and in what manner). The major difference from the existing version is that it's not possible to override text and pictures for items. There may be more work needed but some input or critique is certainly welcome. --The scribe Eek, a goblin! 00:34, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
When someone with access to the buttons, pipes and gizmos reads this... I ran into an issue on the Staves page where SMW refused to handle a query because of size limitations. I like to do these in bulk instead of one-by-one, beacuse efficiency :-) The query in question wasn't even that big either. Any chance to raise this limit by a little bit? I saved a query for whoever handles this here for testing purposes. --The scribe Eek, a goblin! 19:09, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
Tracked down what the problem here was. It is caused by listing too many pages in the page selection part of an SMW query. It has nothing to do with the overall request size in other words. This still needs fixing however. --The scribe Eek, a goblin! 14:09, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
Discovered another issue which I suspect is caused by configuration. On pages such as Plateskirt and Medium helmet, the second table refuse to sort. Also on a single table if you specify a secondary sort key it will also ignore it, and sort only by the primary key. SMW supports this so I suspect it has to be a configuration issue. Edit: Well this is weird. On pages such as Warhammer sorting twice works fine, guess I'll have to investigate.Nevermind, I forgot the properties often have multiple values. --The scribe Eek, a goblin! 15:25, 18 July 2020 (UTC)

How to get high resolution images of items in game?[edit source]

Hi, YuugeJohnson here, I am asking for help with methods to get the high resolution images of in-game items, characters, etc. I have been using the simple print screen, but my images do not seem to be quite as high quality as those of others on this wiki. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, YuugeJohnson (talk) 13:48, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

We don't usually take screenshots in-game for those anymore, certain admins have a renderer for items, objects, and npcs they can use. Abex from the RuneLite project also usually uploads a zip of any new item, object, and npc renders in our Discord server when an update happens. zTUG5mD.png Crow 653  17:24, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Monster stats[edit source]

Noticed some monster stats are either missing or wrong. Apparently Calisto has a magic level of 1, so no magic defense, that sounds fishy for such a high level boss. Zalcano is missing a few stats too. I seem to remember Jagex giving access to all of the monsters' stats a couple of years ago, if I remember correctly, can someone tell me where to get access to that? --The scribe Eek, a goblin! 09:59, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

Callisto is immune to magic damage, which I presume is hardcoded, but can still be effected by spells like vunerability. So a magic level being 1 isn't entirely illogical, it's just one of the weird things Jagex does. It wouldn't be the first time something weird has happened with magic stats. You can cast Monster Examine on it if you want, which shows 1 Magic so I suspect it's correct.
For Zalcano I suspect the Atk and Str levels are fake. As it doesn't attack or be attacked directly that there is no reasonable way of gaining access to it's stats without Jagex's help. Monster Examine does not works on Zalcano either. Luna Lana (talk) 11:18, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
Cool, forgot about that spell. How do I enter values into infoboxes that aren't listed to clear them out of Category:Needs Monster Examine? Entering 0 doesn't seem right as the Bunny's melee attack and strength are in the negatives. Entering N/A causes a processing error. I'm thinking it may be a good idea to have infoboxes accept NaN as an argument since Lua uses floating point and thus can accept NaN as a number value provided the infobox code understands that 'NaN' is a number value. Edit: As an alternative maybe an impossibly high number can be used? But it's got to be over 9000... :-) --The scribe Eek, a goblin! 03:58, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
The category should probably be renamed to something like "Missing monster stats" instead of just removing things that belong in the category from the category, all of the monsters in it do have stats so N/A or NaN is factually incorrect, they just cannot be monster examined. zTUG5mD.png Crow 653  04:12, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

Problem....I don't know how to add it to the list of clues without messing up the page.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 2604:6000:d2c1:f400:5052:8f90:8b2c:9313 (talk) on 02:13, 28 July 2020 (UTC).

I've updated the clue text from "Between where the best are commemorated for a year, and a celebratory cup, not just for beer." to "Where Champions are commemorated..." if that is indeed the full text of the updated clue. The image location and description were already updated.Choppe|T 02:21, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Graphics from Jagex' employees[edit source]

This particular graphic made by Mod Kieren [1] is linked to from 6 different pages on the wiki. Seems dumb not to upload it here instead of imgur. Can I upload with a fair use license? --The scribe Eek, a goblin! 12:17, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

Suggestion to reformat emote clue tables[edit source]

Not too familiar with the formatting - I think it would be very helpful to change the emote clue page listing the locations of the STASHes into tables that allow users to highlight rows. Only way to check which STASHes are missing is to visit Watson, might be useful to allow you to keep track of it on the wiki  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Losh (talk) on 13:31, 9 August 2020 (UTC).

The STASH page has this functionality. -Towelcat (talk) 20:13, 9 August 2020 (UTC)
