Teddy is missing a Trailblazer League location

Teddy is missing a Trailblazer League location, and I can't see a reason why it couldn't be Misthalin region. I also can't seem to understand a way to add it. The item can be pickpocketed from the female student at the Digsite after the quest too. How can I add the region to the drop lists? 11:07, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

The author of Special:Diff/13990473 fixed it, thanks. I've learned. 21:46, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

"Dark mage" should be moved to "Dark Mage"

I couldn't find a template to tag a page (and its picture filenames?) to move Dark mage to Dark Mage, so I'll ask here. 09:00, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing it to attention, I believe I've moved all of the relevant pages now zTUG5mD.png Crow 653  17:14, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Database/JSON of (GE tradeable) items?

Is there an accessible database in some form, preferably JSON, of a list of OSRS items that either have the GE tradeable attribute or just a list of tradeable items?

I wish to make a script to find the shortest substring that (semi)uniquely identifies an item in GE search. Like "Ranarr seed" can be found with "rr s".

Preferably this would be server accessible so I can just make a cron job and a webpage.

Yourkittenishungry (talk) 13:58, 17 January 2021 (UTC)

There's bulk lists available at Module:GEPrices/data and Module:GEVolumes/data in Lua format, courtesy of Gaz. With a little Lua script turning this into json or whatever is fairly straightforward. Retrieving it can be done with curl and a url in the form [https: ...index.php?title=...&action=raw]
Also you can do a semantic mediawiki query with the condition '[[Exchange name::+]]' that will list all items available and all variants. You can experiment on this page. Output formats include json, csv and plain.
It should be possible to access this data externally using the mediawiki web service API. You can experiment on this page (action=ask, format=json). If your use-case will result in many requests, consider caching the result.
Documentation for both are available online, so consult those for details. HTH. --The scribe Eek, a goblin! 17:29, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
Thank you, that is exactly what I was looking for.
Caching is obvious for this use case, if I were to make an application I would only request when some RS version number changed (or maybe runelite's version huehue).

Body Talisman from Guard's

According to the guard page the Body talisman droprate varies due to being in members or F2P. The reference currently states the droprate decreases to 4/128 on members worlds. This seems backwards as the members world replaces 1 body rune drop rate with a blood rune.

You're right, that does seem backwards. I've adjusted it. ʞooɔ 07:59, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

I can has a project plox?

I'm trying to improve my familiarity with ECMAScript at the moment. I'm curious if anyone has any ideas for a suitable project for me. I got to start small so ideally something uncomplicated that doesn't take more than a day or two to make. --The scribe Eek, a goblin! 10:55, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Just to clarify since as far as I know ECMAScript and JavaScript are one and the same thing: With ECMAScript do you mean ES6? Or would just any old JS project sound good to have a go at?
The issue is that the gadgets we've got on the wiki don't support several of the newer features of JavaScript (with "newer" meaning something like the past 5 to 8 years I think) so any projects would need to be written in plain old ECMAScript 5 or below, as far as I understand it. Joeytje50 (talk) 01:26, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Also, as a followup question: how proficient are you at JS right now? What kind of project size were you thinking of? Because depending on your current familiarity with stuff I think the kind of projects I'd possibly come up with would be very different.
I'll just mention here as well that wikipedia:User:Joeytje50/JWB is a project I've been working on very intermittently for the past 8 years where some of the functions I use need to be partially rewritten. It's a bit of a tedious job (which is why I've been postponing it for a while), but if you are just looking for a project where you fiddle around with stuff, I'd love it if you'd be willing to do that. If you'd like more details, I think having a chat somewhere would be a lot quicker than having to communicate through here, so if you want, hit me up on Discord! Joeytje50 (talk) 04:08, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi. And yes, javascript. Anyone using the less common ecmascript name is probably implying standards compliant javascript (as in ES5, ES6 etc.), at least that's what I do.

As for proficiency. I know programming well enough in general. But I haven't really written much at all in javascript. Last thing I toyed around with in my common.js was adding mw portlet links, running mw api requests, effing around with the DOM, injecting html on pages, change styling, attaching event handlers, and such.

Project size; Maybe limiting it to something like 500 LOC for starters? I had a look at the source for JWB and while I can follow the code I guess, the whole webapp is bigger and more complex than I feel comfortable with. As a counter example, if you look at the source for AutoED I find that very easy to follow. The perfect difficulty is probably somewhere in the middle.

Actually, there was a user a while ago that had an idea he didn't follow up on, that I liked. There's a module that calculates average drop value, and it was argued that median drop value is also a very useful metric. Well I planned to expand on that with calculating the standard deviation as well and use that to display a dynamically generated graph, a bell curve representing the simplified distribution of loot value, with values at 1 and 2 SD. While this is mostly Lua script producing a couple of numbers, I think I might need javascript for some visual candy. Chances are I'll drop by Discord to discuss it then, since it could very well get tricky. I suspect it might be desireable to have all the calculations done in one module to avoid extra SMW traffic. --The scribe Eek, a goblin! 23:40, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

Page for smoke rune missing all god spells on list of spells

The page for the item "Smoke Rune" is missing the spells "Flames of Zamorak", "Saradomin Strike" and "Claws of Guthix" from the list of spells requring both air and fire runes. All these spells require blood, air, and fire runes, plus an associated god staff, with multiple possible staves working for each spell. I'm not familiar enough with the table system to add these spells (and especially the staff requirements) myself. Hopefully someone more familiar with that table could correct this omission.

Interestingly, the "Charge" spell associated with the god spells is on the table.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) on 00:57, 8 February 2021 (UTC).

Camelot Training Room Sir Disappearing

This is the second time this has happened... I get to the end of Sir Kay and he disappears without me being able to finish the miniquest.

If you take too long to kill the knights, they can despawn. From the Camelot training room page in reference to poisoning the knights and waiting:

Individual music track pages - info sources?

New here, hope this is the right place to ask this. Is there some kind of source to refer to when editing the music pages? In terms of instrumentation lists and analysis specifically. I think I could add to both in a number of pages but I don't want to step on anyone's toes, write incorrect information, create a bunch of edits that would have to be undone etc.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bearitimus (talk) on 14:30, 17 February 2021 (UTC).

There's no source or style guide really, somebody started on them a few years ago but gave up halfway through, so feel free to analyse them how you like. As for the instrument lists I would hold off on doing them for now, I'm sure there would be a very easy way of adding them all in automatically. (If you know a way to generate a list of instruments a MIDI file uses) Hlwys (talk) 16:49, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Good to know, thank you! I don't know much about the mechanics of digital music but I thought maybe someone had pulled more accurate info from the official albums somehow. As for the analysis, would it be a bad idea (ie questionable legality/wiki admin headache) to include transcriptions of snippets of some of the tracks? Like a few measures of musical notation of the main melody or something.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bearitimus (talk) on 10:05, 19 February 2021 (UTC).

Reused NPC IDs and RuneLite's wiki button

In the 2021 Birthday event's first cutscene, Father Aereck is seen with NPC ID 10575. When using RuneLite's wiki plugin, the button when clicked on him creates an URL like so:

A problem with this is the URL takes to Cheerleader (20th Anniversary event) (a removed NPC from the previous event), not Father Aereck's infobox. What should be done on the wiki side, knowing the design choices of Jagex' RuneTek engine? (This issue would have not been experienced if Cheerleader still existed in the game cache.) 14:42, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

After I posted this, I recall someone earlier edited the removed NPC IDs from 1234 to something like 1234old in removed NPC pages. 14:44, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Uh, oops, I went through the navbox earlier but guess I only went through the "monsters" section, ideally we prepend "hist" to the removed id, so "hist1234", then the search feature won't find a matching id anymore and will resort to finding a matching name. That will resolve it for things like Father Aereck until we add the correct id to the page or split the infobox (or page) into an event version if necessary. zTUG5mD.png Crow 653  14:52, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Unable to draw a perfect rectangle on a map

I'm trying to draw a rectangle on a map filling the indoors of Bob's Brilliant Axes. The coordinates marked up in the above map are as they are read in-game with RuneLite: south-west corner tile in-doors 3228,3201, north-east corner tile in-doors 3233,3205. However the rectangle does not seem to be drawn correctly on the wiki's map, currently, I see the rectangle is 1 tile not wide enough and 1 tile not tall enough. 11:36, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

The lines are centered on the southwestern corner of the tile (i.e., a non-inclusive range). You should just be able to add 1 to the coordinates of the northeast corner to make it do what you want. Mejrs (talk) 13:49, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
I figured, but I'd rather not. Optimally they would maybe be dead-center. I'll leave it be. 16:24, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

Infobox NPC map2 doesn't render properly

See Special:Permalink/14018930 for an example. The coordinates are quite correct, but most of the map will be black and the polygon won't render. I've run into this so many times, and I don't know what causes it. Do I have to use a complicated Template:Switch infobox to make it work, or do these always warrant new articles? Previously, I've used other workarounds such as creating a seperate article for the NPC, or switching the desired map to be version1 and map1 (with version2 having map2 = no). 13:37, 22 February 2021 (UTC)

Add weapon and enemy sounds to their respective pages

I understand this may be a massive undertaking but is there any reason why we can't get started? NPC sounds might be a little much but weapon sounds would definitely be appreciated.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) on 01:08, 27 February 2021 (UTC).

How to access up to date historical price and volume data from the GE

Hi, I was looking for a way to access the historical price and volume data from the GE and found a question form 13 November 2020 titled "Grand Exchange Market Watch database access". The answer provides an URL which contained exactly what I was looking for. However, the volume data stops at 11.17.20 and the price data at 11.25.20 for all items. Still, if I look at the price and volume data on the wiki page the data is up to date. Is it possible to get access to up to data without scraping it form the Wiki but rather through the URL?  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk) on 13:36, 28 February 2021 (UTC).

A prettier way to make maps?

Is there a prettier way to make Special:Permalink/14045231's maps? I used some <div style="display: none"></div> hacks. 18:19, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Errors in the transcriptions of the Prifddinas Grand Library books

I have a clarification request I want to bring up. For the books found in the Prifddinas Grand Library made by the players, the transcriptions here for the majority of these books have typos but have the [sic] tags in the text, claiming they were transcribed verbatim from the original source and thus do not have transcription errors. For clarification, this means because they were reproduced verbatim from the original source, the original source (the first editions of the books previous to any possible updates to correct the typos) had these typos? Kind of surprising that this many of the books would have had typos like that for Jagex to just implement them into the game without noticing them.

-- Crown Mimic (talk) 16:53, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

I can't say for sure, but it is possible that the books written by the players were not spellchecked by the team before being transcribed into in-game text; I'm pretty sure I spellchecked mine though... -- Recent uploads SpineTalkContribs 16:28, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

Code for GE Volume Data lookup

Is it possible to insert a lookup for GE Daily Volume for an item; similar to the lookups for GE Price, e.g. 93 "((Coins|((GEP|Zulrah's scales))))" and "((GEV|Zulrah's scales)) ? This page is generally intended for wiki-related help. However, you should definitely expect to receive plenty of tokkul drops over an hour period. Are you perhaps wearing a RoW? (this would stop tokkul from dropping on the ground). The obsidian items are reasonably rare, so I wouldn't be too worried about not seeing them after an hour. byro009 (talk) 12:29, 18 May 2021 (UTC)

Quest checkboxes not working properly

I've found an issue with some Diaries' and Quests' prerequisite checkboxes that I would like to help fix. Sometimes checking all of the prerequisite quests will also check off one that's a tier above.

For example, under the Ardougne Hard Diary, checking The Grand Tree and Tree Gnome Village quests will automatically mark Monkey Madness I as cleared.

However, on the Legends' Quest page, the checkboxes work properly (e.g. marking Plague City, then Biohazard as complete will *not* auto-check Underground Pass).

I used the source editor and I can't find any difference or figure out what is causing it not to work as intended.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rigadoog2024 (talk) on 18:11, 24 May 2021 (UTC).

It seems it's an optional parameter on {{Checklist}} that has never(?) been used on those pages causing it, it needs to be set to yes to not check off the parent toggle. zTUG5mD.png Crow 653  02:26, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

Not at the given time. Jakesterwars (talk) 18:44, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
It should be possible by enabling mw:Extension:Renameuser. Per guidance there, a sysop could enable the extension in LocalSettings.php by adding wfLoadExtension( 'Renameuser' );, and then a bureaucrat (or an user with renameuser right) can navigate to Special:Renameuser (which currently does not exist, as the extension is not enabled).
It's another topic for meta: if such "feature" is—or would be—mandated by data protection regulations in the UK. 02:13, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
We intend to support account renaming and merging in future, when we update our MediaWiki version. This continues to be a work in progress. Rest assured that there will be a meta thread when that happens. Gaz talk 02:40, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

'Blame' for wiki pages

What is the best way to determine who last edited a particular line on a wiki page? I'm most familiar with software source control and this function would be called 'blame' there. I see there is a way to do a diff between page versions but I don't see a good way to find where a specific line was edited.

There isn't an easy way to my knowledge of how to find a specific edit unless you knew the time frame it was probably changed. Jakesterwars (talk) 13:19, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
After looking around for a moment more, you could utilize Special:Export on a page to get all the revisions in an XML file and search for something particular. There may be more useful 'blame' tooling out there too to utilize the XML in some way. Jakesterwars (talk) 13:22, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
