The Security book, titled Account Security, is a book that contains information on how you can protect your account and bank account through:
- your password:
- - how it is built up (use both letters and numbers);
- - how memorable it is to you;
- - how hard it is for others to guess;
- - the way you look after it (don't write it down nor save it in a text file, as others may find it; don't share it with ANYONE);
- setting a Bank PIN;
- setting up two-factor authentication;
- not leaving your account logged in while you are away from the device;
- overcoming the challenges of the Stronghold of Security.
According to the book, setting up two-factor authentication ensures that no one can gain "unauthorised access" to your account. This implies there is access which is authorised. That is not the case: you are not allowed to authorise others to access an account you created. Account sharing is prohibited. The rules specifically state that "each account should only be used by the person who created it."[1]
The Security book can be obtained for free from the Account security tutor at the Lumbridge graveyard and from the Security Guard in Port Sarim Jail. It can also be found in a bookcase in a player-owned house. The book can be purchased from several general stores and from Trader Stan's Trading Post.
Transcript[edit | edit source]
A good password should be easily remembered by yourself but not easily guessed by anyone else.
Choose a password that has both letters and numbers in it for the best security but don't make it so hard that you'll forget it!
Never write your password down or leave it in a text file on your device, someone could find it easily!
Never tell anyone your password, not even a Moderator of any kind.
Set a Bank PIN to help protect your items in case someone manages to steal your account. Speak to a banker and ask to check your PIN settings.
Setup the two-factor authentication to ensure no-one can gain unauthorised access to your account, even if they have your password.
Never give your password to ANYONE. This includes your friends, family and moderators in game.
Never leave your account logged in while you go away from the device, it only takes a few seconds to steal your account!
Location: The Stronghold of Security, as we call it, is located under the village filled with Barbarians. It was found after they moved their mining operations and a miner fell through. The Stronghold contains many challenges. Both for those who enjoy combat and those who enjoy challenges of the mind. This book will be very useful to you in your travels there.
You can find the Stronghold of Security by looking for a hole in the Barbarian Village. Be sure to take your combat equipment though!Shop locations[edit | edit source]
