|Released||6 September 2005 (Update)|
|Drain rate||40 points per minute|
|Effect||1/4 of damage dealt is also removed from opponent's Prayer.|
Smite is an overhead prayer unlocked at level 52 Prayer. It was the highest level prayer until the July 2007 introduction of Chivalry and Piety. When active, attacking another player will cause 25% of the damage done to be drained from their Prayer.
This prayer is popular among player killers due to the fact that it can be used to prevent their opponent from using the Protect Item prayer. Prayers are deactivated the moment prayer points reach 0. Using a combination of smite and the Ancient mace's special attack, it is possible to drain an opponent's prayer for 125% of the damage dealt. A common tactic known as "macing" is for a clan to try and coordinate several of these attacks on a single player within the same game tick. If used directly after a Dragon spear's special attack, there is a chance that the target's health and prayer will both drop to zero at the same time, and they are guaranteed to lose all of their items if they are skulled.
Changes[edit | edit source]
|12 January 2017
Previously, when a player's prayer points were drained to 0 by Smite at the same time the player died, their prayers would remain active, and Protect Item would still take effect. This is no longer the case. A complete, simultaneous depletion of both Hitpoints and prayer points will cause any prayers being used to deactivate on death, including Protect Item and Retribution.
