Spirit flakes are a drop received from looting the reward pool after defeating Tempoross. They are used in Fishing to give a 50% chance of yielding double catch everywhere excluding Tempoross and the Ruins of Camdozaal, at the cost of one flake per fish caught (no additional XP is given). You lose a flake per every fish caught regardless if you get a single or double catch. Spirit flakes do not replace the need for other forms of bait. For example, if you are fly fishing you will need both feathers and spirit flakes to catch trout/salmon with the spirit flakes bonus. You can exchange 1,200 spirit flakes to upgrade a piece of the Angler's outfit to its spirit version by talking to Gita Prymes (4,800 spirit flakes for the full set). Additionally 3,000 Spirit flakes can be used on the Heron pet to change it into the Great blue heron.

Nine or more spirit flakes
- While one flake is consumed per fish caught, if a player with 1 free inventory space catches a fish, no flakes will be consumed and the catch won't be potentially doubled. This avoids wasting a flake on a catch that either wouldn't be doubled, or would drop to the ground.
