The staff of balance is a bladed staff which requires 75 Attack and 75 Magic to wield. It is created by bringing a Guthixian icon and a staff of the dead to Juna in the Chasm of Tears. This process is irreversible.

The staff of balance inherits all of the staff of the dead's effects. The only differences between them is that the staff of balance autocasts the Claws of Guthix god spell rather than the Flames of Zamorak god spell, and is unable to autocast Arceuus combat spells. In addition, it counts as a Zamorakian item while in the God Wars Dungeon and in the Desert Bandit Camp.

The staff of balance cannot be upgraded with a magic fang to provide the additional magic attack bonus and toxic effect given to the toxic staff of the dead.

Special attack[edit | edit source]

The staff has a special attack, Power of Death, that halves all of the opponent's melee damage, consuming 100% of the player's special attack energy. Upon activating the special attack, a message will appear in the player's chatbox: "Spirits of deceased evildoers offer you their protection."

The effect lasts for one minute after using the special attack, but is immediately lost if players unequip the staff. In addition, the effect stacks with the PvP damage reduction effect of the Protect from Melee prayer.

The special attack cannot be used in the Duel Arena if magic is disabled.
