Talk:Linux game installation guide
|This talk page is for discussing the Linux game installation guide page.|
Just noted that the url given under `jar-method` is broken (gives 404 not found). Does anyone know the correct/new url? Mac-version is a fine workaround.
The relevant url is https://oldschool.runescape.com/downloads/jagexappletviewer.jar

Running JAR extracted from MacOS official client flagged the macro detection system[edit source]
I have been running the MacOS JAR directly for about a year, and prior to that used the package created by HikariKnight.
Three days ago I was issued a temporary ban for use of an illegal client / macroing.
The java command line I had been using to run the JAR was
java -Duser.home='/home/myuser/.local/lib/osrs' -Djava.class.path='/home/myuser/.local/lib/osrs/jagexappletviewer.jar' -Dcom.jagex.config='http://oldschool.runescape.com/jav_config.ws' -Dhttps.protocols='TLSv1.2' -Dsun.java2d.opengl='true' -Dsun.java2d.xrender='True' -Dsun.java2d.uiScale='2' -Dawt.useSystemAAFontSettings='on' 'jagexappletviewer' 'oldschool'
The only other quirk I can think of is the horizontal scrolling behaviour inside a Java applet on Linux: they get interpreted as spammy double clicks. Could that have triggered a 1:1 input violation? Probably safest to disable horizontal scrolling altogether if your mouse allows it to avoid it inadvertently triggering during a mouse gesture. I'm at a loss about what else could have resulted in the ban, needless to say I have never macroed.
Others be warned and if we could get official input from Jagex that would greatly simplify this investigation. For the time being I'll not be playing on Linux since I can't risk the permanent ban by playing in the way I was before.
