Tempoross/Strategies

General considerations[edit | edit source]

  • After three rounds of draining Tempoross's energy, a message will appear in the chat box saying "Tempoross has gathered too much energy. The storm is out of control!" and the storm intensity will increase rapidly, causing the encounter to fail unless both cannons have enough fish loaded to immediately force Tempoross to submerge again.
  • When game is loading click far west on minimap to get off the boat as quickly as possible--works for both ships. Can also do this after games to get back to lobby.
  • Douse any flames that appear nearby as soon as possible. If left unchecked, these can quickly spread. All flames will be doused by a colossal wave attack.
  • When loading fish into crates, groups can either load one cannon per side prolonging the encounter and increasing points/xp gained per round, or alternatively, they can load both cannons on both sides to end the encounter quicker. On mass worlds it's more advantageous to only load the one cannon closest to the ship's entrance, even if it is stunned.
  • When the cannon or player is stunned it takes the same amount of time to start loading again on the same cannon as it does swapping cannons.
  • It is possible to repair and tether between the colossal wave being announced and when it hits.
  • It's advisable to always fish at the double spots where possible.
  • While waiting for a double spot to spawn, cook your raw harpoonfish instead of fishing at a single spot for higher efficiency when going for points.
  • When a colossal wave is incoming, players can delay tethering for a few seconds without issue. This is an effective way to get one to two extra fish caught, loaded or cooked during a wave attack.
  • Upon completing a wave, use the right-click "Leave" option on the first mate to leave sooner.
  • While at 10% energy remaining or less, Tempoross will not use the colossal waves, lightning, or water torrent special attacks allowing the player to drop any ropes and/or buckets from their inventory and continue unimpeded.

Inventory Setup[edit | edit source]

  • Your inventory per game should take the following into consideration:
    • Rope, Hammers, Harpoons and Buckets are all available in crates as you start the minigame.
    • Rope allows you to tether yourself to the totem poles and masts when Tempoross attacks with a colossal wave. Failing this will destroy minigame items from your inventory, costing you points and forcing you to re-obtain them. (Recommended 1x)
    • Hammer is used to repair the totem poles and masts when they break. You cannot tether if these objects are broken. (Recommended 1x)
    • Buckets of water are used to extinguish the flames from Tempoross' storm attack. Running through or being hit by a fire will destroy minigame items from your inventory forcing you to re-obtain them. Some fire arrangements will require more than one bucket of water to deal with efficiently. (Recommended 2x)
  • Harpoon Selection
    • While the basic Harpoon can be used to catch Harpoonfish , players are encouraged to use one of these alternate methods if available.
      • Barb-Tail Harpoon is the same speed as a harpoon and can be held in your main hand. This frees up an inventory slot and reduces the number of items you can lose to a wave or fire.
      • Unlocking Bare-handed fishing is strongly recommended as it does not require a harpoon, is the same speed and grants additional strength experience during the minigame.
      • Dragon harpoon has a special attack that increases fishing level by +3 and will speed up gathering rates significantly.
      • Infernal Harpoon automatically cooks 1/3rd of all Harpoonfish caught, and is the best harpoon choice when maximizing point gain per hour.
      • Crystal Harpoon has a 1/3rd chance to catch Crystallised harpoonfish, and is the best harpoon choice when maximizing fishing experience gain per hour.
  • Inventory Optimizations

Recommended equipment[edit | edit source]

A good equipment setup consists of the full angler's outfit or spirit angler's outfit for the 2.5% extra Fishing XP.

  1. ^ If maximum fishing experience is desired
  2. ^ If maximum reward permits are desired
  3. ^ If the bare-handed section of barbarian training is completed, having no harpoon equipped or in the inventory grants strength xp and performs the same as barb-tail and normal harpoon.
  4. ^ If using a crystal harpoon

Weight-reducing equipment[edit | edit source]

Specific methods[edit | edit source]

This method involves cooking all or almost all fish caught in your inventory and consistently yields 4k-5k points per round and up to 6 rewards on Tempoross worlds.

Game strategy[edit | edit source]

When the round starts, run to the island:

  • Under 85 fishing: Catch 7 fish and then cook 7 fish. The double fishing spot should appear around the time fish 7 is cooked. Catch as many fish as possible there until the first colossal wave appears.
  • Over 85 fishing: Catch 12-13 fish until the double fishing spot occurs. Double fish until the first colossal wave. Your inventory will be close to full if not full.
  1. Tether and when the wave dissipates, cook the remaining fish in your inventory.
  2. When you finish cooking the fish in your inventory, run to the boat and dump all of your cooked fish.
  3. After you finish dumping, catch as many fish as you can before 0% Energy and the Spirit pool opens.
  4. At 1-2% Energy, run to the dock and Harpoon the Spirit pool until Energy recharges back up to 97-98%. NOTE: You should get around 18 xp drops from the Spirit pool before the next round begins.
  5. Cook whatever is in your inventory taking care for the third colossal wave.
  6. At this point, catch and cook 7 fish at a time until Tempoross reaches 49% Energy or your inventory is full. NOTE: You must start dumping at 49% or you won't have enough time to finish your inventory once the last colossal wave hits. It is possible to take Tempoross's energy down to 0% before the fourth wave but this is uncommon. If you are doing a solo run, then by having 18 fish in the cannons before he regains energy, you can defeat his 4th phase. However, he will regain energy at an accelerated rate for every phase beyond the 3rd. So it's recommended that you finish him off at this point.
  7. When you finish dumping your inventory, run to the dock and Harpoon the Spirit pool until Tempoross is dead.

This method maximises XP and fish caught. You should be able to finish 2.5 to 3 inventories of fish for maximum XP per hour.

Game strategy[edit | edit source]

  1. Catch 8 fish then run to the shrine and cook them.
  2. When the pool spawns, double fish until the first colossal wave, tether, and then dump your inventory.
  3. Continue catching fish and dump if your inventory gets full before Energy reaches 0%. NOTE: You should catch at the double fishing spot whenever possible to maximise fish caught.
  4. You should have close to a full second inventory before the Spirit pool wave. Fish the spirit pool wave until 97-98%.
  5. Dump your fish once the Spirit pool is over.
  6. Continue fishing as much as you can until 29% Energy then dump whatever is in your inventory. Finish dumping your inventory before trying to harpoon the Spirit pool.

This method involves cooking all fish caught and always keeping Tempoross at low energy to prevent special attacks, while focussing on dousing fires during the final phase.
It will net roughly 50,000 fishing experience per hour, and around 65-70 reward permits per hour.

Equipment[edit | edit source]

The only required equipment is the spirit angler's outfit or angler's outfit and an infernal harpoon. Because this method involves a lot of running, weight-reducing clothing and/or ring of endurance are recommended.

  1. ^ 1.0 1.1 1.2 1.3 Set effect acts as rope for tethering

Inventory[edit | edit source]

With the full Spirit angler's outfit, a rope is not required. If the full outfit is not available, take 1 rope.
A rune pouch containing runes to cast Humidify should be used, along with an initial bucket of water to douse flames should they block access to further buckets.

Game strategy[edit | edit source]

  1. When the round starts, immediately run to the island and begin fishing from the nearest spot.
  2. Catch approximately 10 raw harpoonfish, then run and begin cooking them at the shrine.
  3. As soon as the double fishing spot appears, move to it and continue fishing.
    • Shortly after fishing, a colossal wave will occur. Tether to the totem pole as needed.
  4. Once 17 raw harpoonfish have been fished, cook 17 raw harpoonfish, then run to the ship.
    • At some stage during cooking the fish and running to the ship, a storm will move in, igniting fires. It should be possible to get to the ship before any fires spawn.
  5. Load all cooked harpoonfish into the closest harpoonfish cannon ammunition crate.
  6. Douse the flame on the ship.
  7. Take 5 buckets, run to the island and cast Humidify as you run.
  8. Either douse any flames that may have appeared on the island to be safe, or consider leaving them to spread and only dousing them when they block a fishing spot. This can give more points overall.
  9. Fish 19 more raw harpoonfish, cook them all, then load them all. Make sure to do this as quickly as possible, the timing can be tight. The highest the storm intensity can be to still leave enough time to run from the shrine to the ammunition crate is 93%.
    • If at any point the storm intensity reaches 93% during this step, immediately run and load the ammunition crate with as many cooked harpoonfish as possible. In this case, damage Tempoross by approximately 40%, then return to fish and/or cook, and load extra harpoonfish to make up to a total of 19. If extra fishing is required, be wary of an additional colossal wave and tether to the totem pole or mast as necessary.
    • If another colossal wave occurs, it will extinguish all the fires on the other side of the island. In that case, you should pivot to the "Solo Cooking" strategy, as firefighting will not be possible.
  10. After loading 19 harpoonfish, damage Tempoross by fishing at the spirit pool until it regains its energy.
  11. Fish, cook, and load another 19 harpoonfish.
  12. Damage Tempoross again.
  13. Fill your inventory with buckets from the crate on the docks. Run around the island to the otherside, filling the buckets with Humidify as you run.
  14. Make your way across the island dousing all the fires that have spread here. Cast Humidify as needed to refill them.
  15. Fish 2 more harpoonfish (it doesn't matter if they are raw or cooked), and load them into the ammunition crate.
  16. Finish Tempoross off.
    • Optional: Consider using an alternative account to begin the countdown on a new game. Go up the ladder on the alternative account just before inflicting the final damage to Tempoross to ensure enough time remains to make it on the main account.

This method involves cooking all fish caught and always keeping Tempoross at low energy to prevent special attacks.
It will net roughly 72,000 fishing experience per hour, and around 55-60 reward permits per hour.

Equipment[edit | edit source]

An infernal harpoon and the full spirit angler's outfit are highly recommended for this method, though not necessary. Other item slots may be filled by any other equipment the player deems necessary, such as weight-reducing clothing, ring of endurance, or explorer's rings.

Game strategy[edit | edit source]

  1. When the round starts, immediately run to the island and begin fishing from the nearest spot.
  2. Catch approximately 7-10 raw harpoonfish, then run and begin cooking them at the shrine.
  3. As soon as the double fishing spot appears, move to it and continue fishing.
    • Shortly after fishing, a colossal wave will occur. Tether to the totem pole as needed.
  4. Once 17 raw harpoonfish have been fished, cook 17 cooked harpoonfish, then run to the ship.
    • At some stage during cooking the fish and running to the ship, a storm will move in, igniting fires. It should be possible to get to the ship before any fires spawn.
  5. Load all cooked harpoonfish into the closest harpoonfish cannon ammunition crate.
  6. Douse any flames that may have appeared on the ship.
  7. Run to the island and make sure to douse all fires before they spread. Drop any buckets remaining while running to the nearest fishing spot.
  8. Fish 19 more raw harpoonfish, cook them all, then load them all. Make sure to do this as quickly as possible; the timing can be tight. The highest the storm intensity can be to still leave enough time to run from the shrine to the ammunition crate is 93%.
    • If at any point the storm intensity reaches 93% during this step, immediately run and load the ammunition crate with as many cooked harpoonfish as possible. If extra fishing is required, be wary of an additional colossal wave and tether to the totem pole or mast as necessary.
  9. After loading 19 harpoonfish, damage Tempoross by fishing at the spirit pool until it regains its energy.
  10. Fish, cook, and load another 19 harpoonfish.
  11. Damage Tempoross again.
  12. Fish, cook, and load 28 harpoonfish.
    • If there is a concern time may run out before you are able to finish Tempoross off, ensure at least 6 cooked harpoonfish are loaded into the other ammunition crate, so that it can be downed one more time after it regains energy.
  13. While the cannons are firing at Tempoross for the final time, take 4 buckets from the dock and fill them with water.
  14. Finish Tempoross off, and immediately select the "Leave" option on First Mate Deri.
    • Optional: Consider using an alternative account to begin the countdown on a new game. Go up the ladder on the alternative account just before inflicting the final damage to Tempoross to ensure enough time remains to make it on the main account.

This method tries to finish Tempoross off in 5 rounds instead of the usual 3, resulting in 8500-9500 points (10-12 permits) per game. This requires an almost-empty inventory and wasting as little fish as possible.

Inventory & Equipment[edit | edit source]

Bucket of water.png

27 or 28 free inventory spaces are required. Therefore, one needs the spirit angler's outfit, Imcando hammer and having started barbarian fishing.

Game strategy[edit | edit source]

  1. The first round, fish & cook 26 or 27 harpoonfish
    1. Fish & cook 7-10 harpoonfish
    2. When the double spot spawns, go fish there.
    3. Tether when necessary, then cook when no double spots are available or when the inventory is (almost) full, and always fish at double spots.
    4. Only douse a fire if required to tether or fish at the double spot.
  2. Load the harpoonfish in the ammunition crate:
    1. First load 18 harpoonfish
    2. Do something else (fill bucket or fix mast or stand still) to prevent wasting fish.
    3. Load the other 8 or 9 harpoonfish
  3. Fish at the spirit pool until Tempoross resurfaces. The essence should then be <60%, preferably <50%.
  4. The second round, fish & cook 26 or 27 harpoonfish again.
  5. Load the harpoonfish.
    • When Tempoross' energy starts at 49%, load 9 fish, then wait a second and load 17 fish (possibly keeping one fish if one has caught 27 fish both rounds)
    • When Tempoross'energy is 55%, load 10 fish, then wait a second and load 17 fish.
  6. Do not fish at the spirit pool after the second round, but directly fish for harpoonfish instead (unless the first round the essence remained >60%, then fish until it is about <55%)
  7. The third round, drop the bucket and catch & cook 28 fish.
    • If some fire is burning around the fishing spots, take ~10 buckets on the ship and douse those flames. Then drop the buckets while walking between fishing spots and shrine.
    • Because Tempoross should be at ≤10% energy, no special attacks should occur this round.
  8. Load exactly enough fish in the ammunition crates
    1. Load the first fish, then wait a second until tempoross goes under.
    2. Put 5 harpoonfish in one crate and 13 in the other.
    3. Take 9 harpoonfish back
  9. Again, do not go for the spirit pool, but directly fish for harpoonfish.
  10. Catch & cook 9 more harpoonfish while Tempoross is regaining energy.
    • Do not try to fish at double spots; these disappear when Tempoross goes under.
    • The fish should be caught & cooked before Tempoross' energy is at ~40% for the second time.
    • Distribute the fish equally over the two crates. When in doubt, start with 4-5 in one crate, then fill the other crate until 3 are left or the cannons start firing.
  11. Once all fish is loaded, run to the spirit pool. Then finish Tempoross off.

This method involves maximising fishing experience rates by never cooking any harpoonfish, while always keeping Tempoross at low energy to prevent special attacks.
It will net roughly 100,000 fishing experience per hour, and around 24 reward permits per hour.

Equipment[edit | edit source]

The only required equipment is the spirit angler's outfit or angler's outfit and a crystal harpoon (plus an elven signet is highly recommended). Other item slots may be filled by any other equipment the player deems necessary, such as weight-reducing clothing, ring of endurance, or explorer's rings.

  1. ^ 1.0 1.1 1.2 1.3 Set effect acts as rope for tethering

Inventory[edit | edit source]

One hammer, one rope, optionally a rune pouch with runes for Humidify. With the full Spirit angler's outfit a rope is not required.

Game strategy[edit | edit source]

  1. When the round starts, immediately run to the island and begin fishing from the nearest spot.
  2. Catch either 25 or 26 raw harpoonfish and crystallised harpoonfish depending on available inventory space.
  3. Run to the ship, tether to the mast for the collosal wave, and deposit all harpoonfish.
  4. Take 5 buckets, cast Humidify or fill at the sink. Repair the mast if it's damaged.
  5. Douse all fires on the ship and island.
  6. Drop everything except your rune pouch, then fish 27 raw and crystalised harpoonfish.
  7. Deposit only 2 raw or crystalised harpoonfish into a harpoonfish cannon hopper, then click off and wait until Tempoross submerges, then deposit the remaining 25 harpoonfish.
  8. Rather than damage the boss, return to the island and fish 27 more raw and crystalised harpoonfish.
  9. Deposit only 2 harpoonfish, then click off and damage the boss by fishing at the spirit pool until it regains its energy.
  10. Once Tempoross resurfaces, deposit 25 more harpoonfish.
  11. Run back toward the island. A colossal wave may occur at this point which can be ignored.
  12. Fish and deposit more harpoonfish, depending on the amount of essence Tempoross has:
    • ~24%: 25 harpoonfish
    • ~27%: 24 harpoonfish
    • ~30%: 23 harpoonfish
    • et cetera
  13. Once all remaining harpoonfish have been loaded, grab a new hammer and rope for the next round and finish Tempoross off by fishing at the spirit pool.
  14. Once the encounter has ended immediately select "Leave" on the spirit angler on the island.
    • Optional: Consider using an alternative account to begin the countdown on a new game. Go up the ladder on the alternative account just before inflicting the final damage to Tempoross to ensure enough time remains to make it on the main account.
