Starting out[edit | edit source]

Searching the notice board[edit | edit source]

  • You search through the notice board...
  • Player: 'Damaged roof tiles for sale'... 'Come on down to Bob's Axes'... 'Contributions welcomed to Ned's New-Window Fund'...
  • Player: Wait a minute, what's this?
  • 'Keen fighter sought to deal with troublesome monster. Reward offered. Speak to Sarah at the South Falador Farm for details.'
  • Player: This could be worth looking into.
    • Start the A Porcine of Interest quest?
      • Yes.
        • Player: Right, let's go and see what Sarah has in mind.
        • (End of dialogue)
      • No.
        • (End of dialogue)

Searching the notice board again[edit | edit source]

  • You search through the notice board but find nothing more of interest.

Talking to Sarah[edit | edit source]

Initial conversation[edit | edit source]

  • Sarah: Hello. How can I help you?
    • Talk about the bounty.
      • Player: I've come about the bounty.
      • Sarah: Oh thank Saradomin! It's about time someone responded, something needs to be done!
      • Player: Can you explain what happened?
      • Sarah: Of course. I was making my monthly delivery to The Sheared Ram in Lumbridge, heading east near the Draynor Village crossroads.
      • Sarah: Suddenly, out of the trees came a hulking monster! It chased me for a short distance, but luckily Rosie managed to spook it enough to give me a headstart.
      • Player: Sounds like it must have given you quite the scare!
      • Sarah: It certainly did. I even lost my cart full of farm produce!
        • What did the monster look like?
          • Player: What did this monster look like?
          • Sarah: I didn't get a very good look at it I'm afraid. It was getting dark and as soon as I saw it charging at me, I ran.
          • Sarah: I can still hear the sound, though. A horrible grunting... squealing...
          • Sarah: Is there anything else you wanted?
          • (Shows other options)
        • Any tips on finding this thing?
          • Player: Any tips on finding this thing?
          • Sarah: Tips...? You're supposed to be the professional monster slayer!
          • Sarah: Although, I suppose a good place to start would be checking the area I was attacked. See if you can find the remains of my cart.
          • Player: Ok, yes that could work.
          • Sarah: Is there anything else you wanted?
          • (Shows other options)
        • Whereabouts were you attacked again?
          • Player: Whereabouts were you attacked again?
          • Sarah: I remember being somewhere near the crossroads, north of Draynor Village.
          • Sarah: Sorry that I'm not much help. It happened so fast, the whole thing is a bit of a blur.
          • Player: That's okay. Crossroads north of Draynor... At least I have somewhere to start.
          • Sarah: Is there anything else you wanted?
          • (Shows other options)
        • You mentioned Rosie. Who's that?
          • Player: You mentioned that Rosie spooked the monster. Who's that?
          • Sarah: Oh, that'll be our lady over there by the fire. She's such a good dog, always accompanies me on deliveries.
          • Sarah: You can pet her if you like. She's very friendly.
          • Sarah: Is there anything else you wanted?
          • (Shows other options)
        • I think that'll be all for now.
          • Player: I think that'll be all for now.
          • Sarah: Excellent! Best of luck to you, I'll be waiting right here with your reward.
          • (End of dialogue)
    • Talk about something else.

Investigating the crossroads[edit | edit source]

Damaged cart[edit | edit source]

  • It seems as though the monster was trying to run off with some of Sarah's produce. From the looks of things, it was heading north-east.

Cabbages[edit | edit source]

  • The cabbage is damaged and has begun to yellow.

Carrots[edit | edit source]

  • The carrot has been slightly gnawed on.

Potatoes[edit | edit source]

  • These potatoes seem to have been largely untouched.

Broken dead tree[edit | edit source]

  • Player: Something pretty big must have come running through here to knock this over.
  • (End of dialogue)

Strange hole[edit | edit source]

  • If players do not have a rope in their inventory:
    • Player: This looks like the place. It's a long way down, though... I'll need to tie something onto the edge.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If players have a rope in their inventory:
    • You tie the rope tightly around a protruding rock.
    • (End of dialogue)

Inside the cave[edit | edit source]

Investigating pile of rope[edit | edit source]

  • Player: Huh... there's a rope already down here. I hope noone else has got to this monster first.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Sarah after finding the cave[edit | edit source]

  • Sarah: Hello. How can I help you?
    • Talk about the bounty.
      • Sarah: Oh it's you, my monster slayer! How goes the quest?
      • Player: I'm still working on it... I've managed to find its lair though.
      • Sarah: Sounds like you're making progress. Take care!
      • (End of dialogue)
    • Talk about something else.
      • Standard dialogue

Investigating the skeleton[edit | edit source]

  • The skeleton seems fresh. It looks like the bones have been gnawed clean fairly recently.
  • Player: There's also a scrawled note. It's barely readable...
This is what I get for exploring uncharted caves. Looks like I'm trapped down here - My entry rope slipped off and now there's nowhere to go but deeper. I think I'd be safer just waiting and praying for rescue. If anyone finds this, get out while you can.
  • Player: Well, that's not exactly reassuring.
  • A level 37 Pig Thing appears behind the player.
  • Player: Uhh... Nice piggy?
  • The Pig Thing sprays acid at the player.
  • If the player is not wearing Gnome goggles:
    • Player: Argh! My eyes!
  • If the player is wearing Gnome goggles:
    • Player: Argh! My eyes! The goggles do nothing!
  • The screen fades to black.
  • Some time passes...
  • Pig Thing: *Sniff* *Sniff*
  • Pig Thing: *Snort*
  • The Pig Thing walks away.
  • Player: ...
  • Spria enters the cave.
  • Spria: Well then, what do we have here?
  • Spria approaches the player's unconscious body.
  • Spria: Still breathing, eh...?
  • Spria: Seems I came at just the right time.
  • Spria: We'd better get you out of here before that thing returns.
  • The player wakes up in Spria's house in Draynor Village
  • Player: W-what happened? Where am I?
  • (End of dialogue)

Attempting to enter the Sourhog cave after being attacked by the Sourhog[edit | edit source]

  • Player: I think I find[sic] out more about that monster from Spria in Draynor Village before heading back down there.
  • (End of dialogue)

The Sourhog[edit | edit source]

Talking to Spria[edit | edit source]

Initial conversation[edit | edit source]

  • Spria: Oh, you're awake!
  • Player: Who are you? How did I end up here?
  • Spria: My name's Spria and I'm a slayer master. You've had a nasty encounter with a Sourhog.
  • Player: A Sourhog? You mean the giant pig monster?
  • Spria: Precisely. You're extremely lucky that I found you. Another few hours and you'd have been hog chow.
  • Spria: Were you responding to Sarah's bounty too?
  • Player: Yes... It sounded like an easy few coins...
  • Spria: I thought as much. I found you on the floor of the cave, you must have been knocked unconscious.
  • Player: That thing caught me completely off-guard. Normally I can handle myself in a fight, but its spitting attack is pretty fearsome!
  • Spria: The beast's saliva is extremely acidic and your eyes are most vulnerable. It'll cause terrible injuries and leave you unable to attack or defend yourself very well.
  • Player: So how am I supposed to handle that?
  • Spria: Luckily, the Slayer skill provides us with an array of useful equipment and techniques for dealing with... special foes.
  • Spria: In the case of our Sourhog, you'll be needing these.
  • Spria hands you a pair of Reinforced Goggles.
  • Player receives Reinforced goggles.
  • Spria: This eyewear will protect you from the spitting attack, allowing you to fight the monster on equal terms.
  • Spria: Most enemies have a weakness, too. The Sourhog's thick hide provides excellent protection against slashing and insulates it from magic damage.
  • Spria: You'd be best trying to pierce it with arrows or a stabbing weapon.
  • Spria: Go now, the bounty is all yours to claim. I suggest you recoup your strength and head back to fight it using your new goggles.
  • Spria: If you make it out alive, collect your bounty and then come see me so that we can speak further.
    • Why are you helping me?
      • Player: Why are you helping me?
      • Spria: Well, I suppose I could have left you in there to be eaten...
      • Spria: But you know what that'd make me? A monster. And as a slayer master, that's really not a great look.
      • Spria: Besides, my father always taught me that knowledge is worth more than gold. I'm happy to sacrifice a few coins in order to pass my experience on to you.
      • Player: Well, I sure am glad you were there to lend a hand. Thank you!
      • Spria: Don't mention it. Was there something else?
      • (Shows other options)
    • How did I end up back in Draynor Village?
      • Player: How did I end up back in Draynor Village?
      • Spria: I carried you out and dragged you back here to my house to recover, it really wasn't easy. You're welcome to rest here for as long as you need.
      • Spria: Was there something else?
      • (Shows other options)
    • You said you were a slayer master. What's that?
      • Player: You said you were a slayer master. What's that?
      • Spria: There are many of us. We're experts in the ancient art of monster slaying. People from across Gielinor come to us for tasks and advice.
      • Spria: Well... actually, I'm fairly new to this. I've been learning from my father, Turael, for many years. We decided it was finally time for me to continue the family profession.
      • Spria: Was there something else?
      • (Shows other options)
    • Can I have another pair of Reinforced Goggles?
      • Player: Can I have another pair of Reinforced Goggles?
      • If the player has a pair equipped:
        • Spria: No, you're still wearing the last pair I gave you!
        • Spria: Was there something else?
        • (Shows other options)
      • If the player has a pair in their inventory:
        • Spria: You've still got the last one I gave you, it's there in your inventory! Those things aren't cheap, you know.
        • Spria: Was there something else?
        • (Shows other options)
      • If the player has a pair in their bank:
        • Spria: I know many people all across Gielinor, and my sources tell me you still have the last one in your bank.
        • Spria: Was there something else?
        • (Shows other options)
      • If a player does not have a pair in their inventory or bank:
        • Spria: Sure, I have another going spare. Please try to take better care of these.
        • "Spria hands you another pair of Reinforced Goggles."
        • Spria: Was there something else?
        • (Shows other options)
    • What can you tell me about the Sourhog?
      • Player: What can you tell me about the Sourhog?
      • Spria: Well, I'm not much of a history buff... But I'll tell you what I know.
      • Spria: Many years back, before even I was around, there were two rival family farms not far from where we're standing.
      • Spria: Every year the village would hold a 'Finest Swine in Show' prize at the annual faire.
      • Spria: The same farmer would win year after year without fail. Driven mad with jealousy, his rival decided to hire a dodgy dark wizard to give him an edge over the competition.
      • Spria: The wizard attempted to alter the pig's appearance. I'm sure you can guess how well that went!
      • Spria: Long story short, the mutant, what we now know as a Sourhog, went on a brief rampage and escaped.
      • Spria: It must have somehow managed to reproduce, because people have reported seeing them in groups.
      • Spria: Up until now, so long as they were left alone, they'd keep to themselves. Rumors are, they live in deep underground caverns, scavenging what they can find.
      • Spria: But if they're living so close-by and attacking people on roads, then... they must be getting bold and trying to resurface.
      • Spria: Was there something else?
      • (Shows other options)
    • If the player has gone through any of the above choices:
      • That'll be all for now.
        • Player: That'll be all for now.
        • Spria: Very well. Good luck, slayer.
        • (End of dialogue)

Subsequent conversation[edit | edit source]

  • Spria: How goes it?
    • Why are you helping me?
      • (Same as above)
    • How did I end up back in Draynor Village?
      • (Same as above)
    • You said you were a slayer master. What's that?
      • (Same as above)
    • Can I have another pair of Reinforced Goggles?
      • (Same as above)
    • What can you tell me about the Sourhog?
      • (Same as above)

Attempting to enter the hole without reinforced goggles equipped[edit | edit source]

  • Player: I don't want to go back down there without wearing the right equipment!
  • (End of dialogue)

Climbing the blockage[edit | edit source]

  • Player: I don't think Spria will be rescuing me this time. If I go in there, I'm fighting this thing to the death!
  • "Climb over the blockage?"
    • Yes
      • The player climbs over the blockage.
    • No
      • (End of dialogue)

Attempting to climb the rope after killing the Sourhog but before severing its foot[edit | edit source]

  • Player: Before I leave, I should go and collect a foot from that dead Sourhog as proof of my kill.
  • (End of dialogue)

Taking the Sourhog's foot[edit | edit source]

  • If the player doesn't have a knife or slash weapon:
    • You try to pull a foot off with your bare hands, but to no avail.
    • Player: Perhaps I should go and get something sharp.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If the player uses something other than a knife or slash weapon:
    • Player: I don't think that's sharp enough to cut a foot off...
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If the player has a knife or slash weapon:
    • You slice a foot off and place it inside your backpack.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If the player has a Sourhog foot in their inventory:
    • Player: I've already collected a foot from this thing. I should take it to Sarah.
    • (End of dialogue)

Attempting to re-enter the Sourhog Cave[edit | edit source]

  • Player: I don't need to go back down there right now. I should take the foot to Sarah and collect my reward.
  • (End of dialogue)

Collecting the bounty[edit | edit source]

Talking to Spria[edit | edit source]

  • Spria: 'Ello, and what are you after then?
  • Player: I did it! I killed the Sourhog!
  • Spria: Nicely done. Did you collect your reward from Sarah?
  • Player: No, not yet.
  • Spria: Go and collect your reward and then come and speak with me.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Sarah[edit | edit source]

  • Sarah: Hello. How can I help you?
    • Talk about the bounty.
      • Player: That monster certainly won't be troubling you from now on.
      • Sarah: Oh that's fantastic news! I'm so relie-
      • Sarah: Wait, how do I know you're not just saying that to get the bounty?
        • If the player doesn't have the sourhog foot:
          • Player: I guess I'll go and get you some proof.
          • (End of dialogue)
        • If the player has the sourhog foot:
          • Player: How about this as proof?
          • You pull the foot out of your backpack and show it to Sarah.
          • Sarah: Eugh! Yes, that certainly looks about right!
          • Player: Indeed, the smell is... something quite special.
          • Sarah: I'll probably just give it to the dog.
          • Sarah: I'm glad you made it back. Some strange woman in a hood came asking about the job shortly after you left. I didn't really want her back in here.
          • Sarah: Anyway, thank you so much! Here's your reward.
          • Sarah hands you a heavy pouch of 5,000 coins.
          • Player: Perhaps I should speak with Spria and tell her that the monster's been dealt with.
      • (End of dialogue)
    • Talk about something else.
      • Non-quest dialogue

Finishing up[edit | edit source]

Talking to Sarah before telling Spria about the bounty completion[edit | edit source]

  • Sarah: Hello. How can I help you?
    • Talk about the bounty.
      • Player: Feeling better now that the monster's gone?
      • Sarah: Very much so! Thanks again. What was it, anyway?
      • Player: It was a Sourhog. A giant bipedal pig creature!
      • Sarah: Oh crumbs... I think I've heard of those... My grandfather was always rambling on about them.
      • Sarah: Nevermind... that's all history now. Weren't you heading off to see Spria?
      • Player: Yes, I suppose I should get going.
      • Sarah: Safe travels!
      • (End of dialogue)
    • Talk about something else.
      • Standard dialogue

Talking to Spria[edit | edit source]

  • Spria: 'Ello, and what are you after then?
  • Player: I did it! I killed the Sourhog and collected the bounty from Sarah.
  • Spria: Very impressive, slayer. I'm glad that the goggles served you well.
  • Spria: Although, these Sourhogs often live in primitive tribes. I fear that where there's one, there's likely to be more to follow.
  • Spria: We may have to monitor that lair from time to time to keep their population in check.
  • Dialogue ends here, unless players have unlocked the ability to craft the slayer helmet:
    • Spria: I've noticed that you've unlocked the ability to craft slayer helms. From now on, when assembling one, fasten a pair of Reinforced Goggles to the eye holes to gain their benefit.
    • Spria: While we're on the topic, I can upgrade any of your existing slayer helms now.
    • The screen briefly fades to black
    • Spria: That should do the trick.
    • (End of dialogue)
