Ultimate Ironman Guide/Magic
Magic is one of the most useful skills for Ultimate Ironman players, as it is often the fastest way to travel, is crucial to a number of training methods, and is a powerful option in many high and low-level combat situations. Early Magic training can be somewhat slow, due to low-level spells giving little experience per cast, but later on the skill can be passively trained through use in other training methods or general travel.
For more information about Magic equipment, see Ultimate Ironman Guide/Equipment.
Early Training - Questing[edit | edit source]
Some early quests reward Magic experience, and can be used to gain some quick experience. In addition, using low-level spells like Fire Strike against safespottable quest monsters can passively give some Magic experience through combat.
- Witch's Potion - no requirements, rewards 325xp
- Imp Catcher - no requirements, rewards 875xp
- The Grand Tree - requires 25Agility, rewards 2,150xp
- Watchtower - requires 15Magic, 25Agility, 14Herblore and 40Mining, rewards 15,250xp
Early Training - Splashing[edit | edit source]
One popular method of Magic training, especially at low levels, is splashing on low-level monsters such as Rats or Spiders. This method is extremely low-effort, requiring input only every twenty minutes to stay in combat against the monster. The price of the training method depends on the spell used, but in general it is fairly cheap, especially if the player is using an elemental staff to mitigate some of the rune costs. However, the low cost and low effort of the method are matched by equally low experience rates. The player should expect 6,600 experience per hour using Wind Strike, and 13,800 experience per hour using Fire Strike. This makes splashing a decent way of training Magic at low levels, but too slow to be useful for much high level training.
Passive Training - Slayer[edit | edit source]
Like other combat skills, Magic will naturally be trained while training Slayer. In particular, dust devils, nechryaels, smoke devils, and even abyssal demons are excellent tasks to complete with Ancient Magicks like Ice Burst and Ice Barrage. Training Slayer with Ancient Magicks is one of the fastest ways to train the skill, and gives a nice amount of Magic experience for the duration of the task.
For more information, see Ultimate Ironman Guide/Slayer.
Passive Training - Superheat Item[edit | edit source]
One viable method for low-level Smithing training is to use the Superheat Item spell on Iron ore to make Iron bars, and then smith them into Iron platebodies or Iron darts at a nearby anvil. Training in this method gives a solid amount of Smithing, Mining, and Magic experience. The Magic experience per hour depends on whether or not the player is using High Alchemy as well, but ranges from 25k-38k experience per hour.
For more information, see Ultimate Ironman Guide/Smithing.
Passive Training - Superglass Make[edit | edit source]
One of the most popular methods for Crafting training is through glassblowing, with the quickest way of making molten glass being the Superglass Make Lunar spell. The exact experience rates will depend on the player's attention, but in terms of Magic experience, this method ranges from 5k-6k Magic experience per hour.
For more information, see Ultimate Ironman Guide/Crafting.
Passive Training - Other Spells[edit | edit source]
Having a wide variety of useful alchemy spells, enchantment spells, and teleportation spells, Magic is a skill where experience will often accumulate during all sorts of other activities and training methods. High Alchemy is often used to process drops from Slayer, or turn items crafted through Fletching, Smithing, or Crafting into useful coins. On the Lunar spellbook, Humidify is useful for making Jugs of wine for Cooking training, and Cure Plant and Fertile Soil are both useful for Farming training. The Arceuus spellbook has the Resurrect Crops spell for Farming, as well as the various reanimation spells for occasional Prayer training.
