Hellhounds are mid-to-high level monsters that are often given as a slayer task to mid-to-high level players. Hellhounds are a popular source of hard clue scrolls, as they drop them more frequently than most other monsters.

Locations and getting there[edit | edit source]

Stronghold Slayer Cave[edit | edit source]

The Stronghold Slayer Cave is a dungeon located beneath the Tree Gnome Stronghold. Players can only attack the slayer monster they were assigned in here.

  • Slayer ring
    1. Use the teleport option on the slayer ring to teleport right in front of the Stronghold Slayer Cave.
  • Spirit tree
    1. Use any spirit tree to travel to the Gnome Stronghold.
    2. Run southwest to arrive at the Stronghold Slayer Cave.
  • Royal seed pod
    1. Use a royal seed pod to travel to the Grand Tree
    2. Run south and then southwest to arrive at the Stronghold Slayer Cave.

Karuulm Slayer Dungeon[edit | edit source]

The Karuulm Slayer Dungeon is a dungeon located beneath Mount Karuulm. The dungeon is entered by activating the elevator on the top of Mount Karuulm. As the dungeon is found inside a volcano, players who wish to explore further beyond the chamber must wear the boots of stone, boots of brimstone or granite boots to protect themselves from the extreme heat of the dungeon floor. However, players who have completed the elite Kourend & Kebos Diary can wear any type of footwear without being rapidly burned.

  • Rada's blessing
    1. Use the teleport option on the Rada's blessing 3 or 4 to teleport to the top of Mount Karuulm. Rada's blessing 3 offers three daily teleports, while Rada's blessing 4 provides unlimited teleports.
    2. Activate the elevator.
  • Fairy rings
    1. Travel to fairy ring CIR.
    2. Run northeast to the bottom of Mount Karuulm.
    3. Run to the top of the mountain and activate the elevator.
  • Skills necklace
    1. Use the skills necklace to travel to the Farming Guild and run northeast to the bottom of Mount Karuulm.
    2. Run to the top of the mountain and activate the elevator.

Catacombs of Kourend[edit | edit source]

The Catacombs of Kourend is a massive dungeon located beneath Great Kourend. The dungeon is a multicombat area with a high variety of monsters that are commonly assigned to players for slayer tasks.

Taverley Dungeon[edit | edit source]

The Taverley Dungeon is a large dungeon located beneath Taverley. This dungeon houses many monsters, ranging from low to high combat levels, getting stronger as players venture deeper into the dungeon. This dungeon is single-way combat and players can setup a dwarf multicannon.

East of Deserted Keep (Wilderness)[edit | edit source]

In level 49-55 Wilderness, near the Resource Area, there are 6 hellhounds.

  • Edgeville lever
    1. From Edgeville bank, run south to the lever, which is on the western wall next to some coffins.
    2. Pull the lever and run north.
    3. Slash the web. This requires a knife or a weapon with a slash bonus of at least +1.
    4. Pass the web and run east.

Revenant Caves (Wilderness)[edit | edit source]

The Revenant Caves are a set of caverns found in the Wilderness. It is an extremely dangerous cave, due to player killers, that ranges from level 17 to 40 Wilderness. It is mostly a multicombat area; only the exits and the nearby area are Single-way combat. A dwarf multicannon can be placed in the dungeon, except for the revenants' area.

Mechanics[edit | edit source]

Attack styles[edit | edit source]

Hellhounds only attack with a Melee attack.

  • The Melee attack is only used when the player is standing in Melee distance and can hit up to 11 (level 122) or 13 (level 127 and 136).
    • The attack is very accurate and has an attack speed of 4 (i.e. every 2.4 seconds).
    • The Protect from Melee prayer will negate all damage from this attack.

Tips[edit | edit source]

Dwarf multicannon[edit | edit source]

Players can set up a dwarf multicannon to aid them in dealing damage. This requires completion of the Dwarf Cannon quest.

The dwarf multicannon can be used in the Karuulm Slayer Dungeon, Stronghold Slayer Dungeon, Taverley Dungeon and Revenant Caves.

See the images below for the best placement options and in which tile the player should stand for the most effective results.

Catacombs of Kourend[edit | edit source]

Hellhounds killed in the Catacombs of Kourend have a chance of dropping ancient shards and dark totem pieces.

A special effect of the Catacombs is that players who bury bones of any type within it will have a small amount of their prayer points restored. This also applies if the bones are crushed via the bonecrusher.

Wilderness weapons[edit | edit source]

The Craw's bow, Thammaron's sceptre and Viggora's chainmace have an additional 50% accuracy and damage boost when attacking any NPC in the Wilderness. This effect makes them the strongest weapons in the Wilderness. Players seeking higher experience rates might want to consider killing hellhounds in the Wilderness with one of these weapons.

Ring of wealth (i)[edit | edit source]

The imbued ring of wealth has the additional effect of doubling the drop chance of clue scrolls in the Wilderness.
