This page lays out the basic strategy for maximising points at Nightmare Zone

If this is your first time using Nightmare Zone, use easy endurance mode to gain points to buy some overload and absorption in a 1:5 ratio. After gathering the points and buying your first doses, follow this guide to complete your first run. After your first two runs, you should have enough points to buy potions to continue.

Prerequisites[edit | edit source]

Potions[edit | edit source]

Buy overload and absorption potions in a 1:5 ratio. You will drink 1 absorption potion per overload dose, and keep a full absorption potion for emergencies. (Such as forgetting to re-apply the overload, or accidentally gaining hitpoints).

While the overload will not let you take a dose if you have less than 51 hitpoints, if you lower your health before it has fully drained 50 hp, it will kill you. Either wait until the potion has drained 50 hp before lowering your hp to 1, or lower your health to exactly 51 before taking a dose.

Absorption potions will add to a pool of absorption damage, which most damage will be taken from, instead of your hitpoints. By lowering your hitpoints to 1, all damage will cap at 1, removing only 1 point of damage from the absorption pool per hit.

By flicking Rapid Heal, the progress to restoring hitpoints naturally can be reset. Flicking this prayer on and off once every 60 seconds will not drain any prayer, and will allow you to remain at 1 hitpoint. However you must have at least one prayer point to activate the prayer.

If you miss a flick, lower your hitpoints again.

Damage which goes through absorption potion includes the rock cake, locator orb, and overload potion.

When the overload potions effect runs out, it will restore 50 hp, allowing enemies to take large amounts from your absorption pool. Before the overload expires, drink 4 doses of your absorption, and be ready to quickly re-apply the overload. You should active Protect from Melee while re-applying the overload potion, to reduce the damage taken from your absorption pool.

Powerups[edit | edit source]

Recurrent Damage[edit | edit source]

This powerup is a glowing red orb. While under the effects of recurrent damage, each hit will be followed by a second hit for 75% of the damage.

You should always pick up this powerup.

Power Surge[edit | edit source]

This powerup is a glowing yellow orb. While under the effects of Power Surge, you will have a hugely increased special attack restore rate.

You should always pick up this powerup, and cast constant special attacks against your highest priority target.

Zapper[edit | edit source]

This powerup is a glowing purple orb. While this powerup is active, all enemies within the range of the orb will take periodic damage.

You should pick up this powerup unless you have Damis' first phase spawned, as his second phase can drain prayer with his attacks.

Ultimate Force[edit | edit source]

This powerup is a glowing white orb. When activated, this powerup will kill all bosses in the arena. It does not grant points for the bosses it kills.

You should pick up this powerup if you have too many Damis or Fareed spawned, or have no high point bosses spawned

Gear[edit | edit source]

As you will be using absorption potions to mitigate all damage, defensive bonuses do not matter. You should equip your best offensive gear, with the highest strength bonus possible.

Try to avoid using degradable gear unless you can afford the repair costs.

If your hitpoints are 92 or higher, the best strategy is using Dharok the Wretched's equipment.

Below 92 hitpoints, the best strategy is to use a set of obsidian armour with the Berserker necklace.

Setups[edit | edit source]

Using Dharok the Wretched's equipment is optimal for players with 92 hitpoints or higher

Equipment[edit | edit source]

This setup uses the Dharok the Wretched's equipment for main damage output. Dragon claws are the best option for special attacks, followed by granite maul. The rest of the gear should consist of equipment that maximises the player's strength and accuracy bonuses.

Using a full set of Obsidian Armour with the Berserker necklace is the optimal setup for players with hitpoints level below 92.

Equipment[edit | edit source]

For this setup, Obsidian helmet, Obsidian platebody, Obsidian platelegs and the Berserker necklace are combined with the Toktz-xil-ak for a 10% boost in accuracy and a 30% boost in damage.

Inventory[edit | edit source]

For the maximum time in the arena, take 4 overload potions, and 20 absorption potions. The remaining inventory slots should be a spec weapon (Granite maul or Dragon claws), rock cake or locator orb, ice gloves, and emergency prayer potion.

Bosses[edit | edit source]

Block List[edit | edit source]

Blocking a boss reduces the points available. Blocks should be used sparingly to remove bosses which lower point gain. Some personal preference can be used when blocking bosses, if you are willing to fight around some mechanics you can allow more bosses for more point gain per boss.

Always Block
Boss Block Reason
Agrith Naar Teleports player
Barrelchest Drains prayer
Chronozon Requires casting all elemental blast spells
Corrupt Lizardman Poisons through absorption
Elvarg Forces the use of antifire protection
Glod Drains prayer, causes the player to occasionally run away
Ice Troll King Constantly interrupts combat with freezing
Nazastarool Has multiple forms but low point yield
Slagilith Heavy damage reduction from non-pickaxes
Tanglefoot Can only be damaged by magic secateurs
Witch's experiment Has multiple forms but low point yield
Sometimes Block
Boss Block Reason Leave Reason
Dagannoth mother Can only be attacked in one out of five forms You can ignore her during other forms
Recipe for Disaster Bosses can all be difficult They offer a large amount of points, and can be fought around with some effort
Giant Roc Can disrupt the player by pushing a few squares away If you don't mind being interrupted you can leave it in to reduce the point penalty
Dad Can disrupt the player by pushing a few squares away If you don't mind being interrupted you can leave it in to reduce the point penalty
Treus Dayth Teleports around the arena You can run to him, or ignore him. Leave in to reduce the point penalty

Priorities[edit | edit source]

Four bosses will be spawned in the arena at the same time. You should focus on killing the boss with the highest priority. The priorities are determined by the points the boss awards, or by having low defence, allowing a quick kill to give the chance to spawn a higher point boss.

Priority Boss Reason
1 Dad Interrupts player
2 Giant Roc Interrupts player
3 Agrith-Na-Na Teleports Player
4 The Inadequacy Awards the most points, highest kill priority.
5 The Untouchable
6 The Everlasting
7 Jungle Demon
8 Giant Scarab Use stab when possible
9 Nezikchened
10 Black Demon
11 Evil Chicken
12 Bouncer
13 Culinaromancer
14 Dagannoth Mother Only attack during orange phase
15 Gelatinnoth Mother Only attack during orange phase
16 Treus Dayth
17 Sand Snake
18 Corsair Traitor
19 Trapped Soul
20 Count Draynor
21 King Roald
22 The Kendal
23 Arrg
24 Moss Giant
25 Me
26 Tree Spirit
27 Khazard Warlord
28 Black Knight Titan
29 Dessous
30 Dessourt
31 Skeleton Hellhound
32 Kamil Kamil will constantly freeze the player when attacked, so do not attack him. If you must kill Kamil, you must constantly click, as he removes your auto-attack.
33 Karamel
34 Fareed Eqiup your ice gloves if you need to kill Fareed. He has incredibly high melee defense so is best left alive.
35 Flambeed
36 Damis Damis' second form will drain prayer, which means you will not be able to flick rapid heal to stay at 1 hp.

Actively avoid damaging Damis
