Vote in the Weird Gloop elections![edit source]

Hi Crow653!

Because of your involvement with the wiki, you are eligible to vote on the candidates for the board of Weird Gloop, the company that hosts the RuneScape and Old School RuneScape wikis.

See meta:Weird Gloop elections for general information about this process (and how to vote – it'll take maybe 5 minutes), and meta:Weird Gloop elections/2019/Candidates for candidate presentations.

There are 4 candidates for OSRSW and 4 candidates for RSW, and 1 candidate for pt-RSW. If you'd like to influence who represents the voices of these communities inside the company, I strongly encourage you to vote! You are one of only 204 people that meet the requirements, and this is your opportunity to help shape the future of the wikis.

Thanks! ʞooɔ 01:00, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

Regarding the Volcanic Mine[edit source]

IIRC the activity was dangrous upon release, but was since changed in an update to get an Item Retrieval Service. I changed the template to "Instance" since this is the template that I'm using for anything that has an Item Retrieval Service. Now whether this means that deaths will result in loss of HCIM status, I have no idea. All other types of accounts should be fine however. If you can shed some light on this, please do. --The scribe Eek, a goblin! 19:11, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

It wasn't ever made into a safe death, an activity having an item retrieval service doesn't have much to do with an activity being dangerous or not (afaik all activities with IRS's besides Chambers of Xeric are dangerous deaths). The main differences between a safe and dangerous death are hcim losing status, uim losing their instance banked items, and regular accounts and normal ironmen losing(dropping) their unprotected items that they're holding (regardless of if there's an IRS). The Instance template doesn't seem to convey whether the activity is dangerous, just if it's an instance. zTUG5mD.png Crow  19:35, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

"Please do not revert edits for no reason."[edit source]

Special:Diff/13978114: It was well explained in Special:Diff/13978091 parentheses. Too many duplicate wikilinks, and addition of brings you is incorrect tone for an encyclopedia. 84.250.17.211 00:36, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Your edit summary did not explain your edit whatsoever, using vague terms with no explanation such as "accessibility" to justify removal of wikilinks which help provide easier accessibility is not okay. "You" is absolutely fine tone to use on guides as you have been repeatedly told and isn't un-encyclopaedic in the first place. zTUG5mD.png Crow  01:27, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Addressing "you" and tone, those pages are in main namespace thus I may treat them as encyclopedia articles (per Main Page: We are the official Old School RuneScape encyclopaedia). Nonetheless, you is an instructional tone addressing the reader directly and not a formal encyclopedic tone. I fail to quickly understand from reading quest articles what the quest is about, what was going around in the game at the time of introduction et cetera, with this non-sense instructional tone seperate from "quick guide" pages where that instructional tone belongs. (Those quick guides also do not belong to an encyclopedia, unless this wiki was to also advertise itself as a strategy guide; two conflicting goals.) It can be difficult in these situations to distinct what is an encyclopedic article and what is a guide, with no seperation.

I am familiar with blind / assistive navigation of web pages with text-to-speech. Links and sections are major navigation elements. An article should have enough links to assist a visual reader, but not too many to disrupt a non-visual reader. Irrelevant links (for example, a link target to Wilderness when there was already a link target to Lava Maze) also do not aid the reader significantly to navigate.

84.250.17.211 01:51, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
You seem to be conflating the fact that Wikipedia states they themselves are not to have guides with the falsehood that encyclopeadias do not have guides, Wikipedia is a specific encyclopaedia, other encyclopaedias may have guides within them, as even Wikipedia's own definitions on their page on encyclopeadias says, even if their editors use the term in a different way. Regardless, we are not Wikipedia, and we do not blindly follow their guidelines which obviously do not fit with our Wiki. If you continue to attempt to force that falsehood into your worldview of what an encyclopaedia is "supposed to be", you will not enjoy editing here.
Your example of irrelevant links does not seem relevant due to those being 2 differing articles. Regardless, it is clearly the only link to Wilderness on the page, I fail to see how it is irrelevant. I can agree with duplicate links being removed if they are literally right next to each other in prose, but duplicating links across sections and in tables is not a bad thing at all, hence I will be restoring some of the links you erroneously removed. zTUG5mD.png Crow  03:18, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

I'm having a blast.

The common goal in that example of Lava Maze is the expectation for a reader to want to learn about Lava Maze, which happens to be located in the Wilderness. Via the article to Lava Maze, a further interested reader may find a link in that article to Wilderness to learn more about the wider area of Wilderness in general. As another example, it'd be awkward to have links like New York's New York City in an article that talks about an event which happened in New York City. But I'd be okay with Wilderness Lava Maze (or in the previous example just New York City but probably not New York State's New York City).

I do not believe those links to have been removed erroneously. Quite the opposite, I believe some of your reverts have discriminated some readers. The links appear in the same section (under that heading, to be specific) once at the top and are easy to locate from there, and not confusing or a burden for a keyboard navigator. I don't know how much experience you have with assistive technologies, but I encourage you to read out loud the example (transcribed):

Items Needed: link: Bert's rota, link: Sandy's rota, link: white berries, link: redberries, link: lantern lens, link: sand (pickpocketed from link: Sandy), 2 empty link: vials.

Take two link: vials, the link: redberries, the link: white berries, a link: lantern lens, and the link: sand pickpocketed from Sandy's pocket with you to Zavistic Rarve.

And then compare it to the following audio for listening:

Items Needed: link: Bert's rota, link: Sandy's rota, link: white berries, link: redberries, link: lantern lens, link: sand (pickpocketed from link: Sandy), 2 empty link: vials.

Take two vials, the redberries, the white berries, a lantern lens, and the sand pickpocketed from Sandy's pocket with you to Zavistic Rarve.

From the audio (assume no vision), the reader has learned once to find links from the previous paragraph should they need to revisit the links.

With link navigation, the section might be read out something like:

Heading, "Truth serum". Link list, 31 elements. link 1: Bert's rota; link 2: Sandy's rota; link 3: white berries; link 4: redberries; link 5: lantern lens; link 6: sand; link 7: Sandy; link 8: vials; [...] link 18: magical orb; link 19: vials; link 20: redberries; link 21: white berries; link 22: lantern lens; link 23: sand; [...]

Needless to say I'd prefer not to listen to link texts I've already heard and as few links as necessary (without repetition), else it wastes my (the reader's) time and focus in that section.

I purposefully did not attempt to reduce wikilinks to only occur once in an article, but once per a heading/section where it makes the most sense for a visually impaired reader to navigate. I encourage you to reconsider your edit, or prove me wrong.

Actually, instead of proving me wrong, I should encourage you to learn more about the subject of blind and assistive web navigation. 84.250.17.211 06:49, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Ardougne master farmer[edit source]

I pickpocketed that master farmer today and it counted for the Ardy medium task despite that note and it's citation suggesting otherwise, which was cited 4 years ago on twitter. Notahashtag (talk) 10:23, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

The note, and the citation, is referring to the medium diary reward which increases your success rate when pickpocketing within Ardougne. It is not referring to the diary task. zTUG5mD.png Crow  10:27, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

Player character[edit source]

Why are you uploading self-insert player character designs to the "Player character" article? The default character appearance for both male and female is more appropriate here (although I've only uploaded the male default so far). The fact you requested my image be deleted gave me a laugh, by the way.

Tarlach (talk) 07:56, 10 April 2021 (UTC)Tarlach

I have not uploaded any "self-insert" images, I have only undone your erroneous addition of a blurry and low quality screenshot of the default character model. It's not important for us to display the default character model and your screenshot was not uploaded appropriately, that's why I reverted your edits, and why I tagged your file for speedy deletion. zTUG5mD.png Crow  08:05, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

hey, sorry about that and thanks for the correction. i dont plan on putting more images on the user page, but for future reference though, is anything special required for uploading images that relate directly to a given page? SunBroHannah (talk) 00:02, 28 May 2021 (UTC)

It's no big deal, sorry if I came across harsh at all, we do have other image policies here, there's just a few settings that make things look clearer in screenshots like max brightness, and GPU being disabled is the big one as it changes the way the game renders things. zTUG5mD.png Crow  00:11, 28 May 2021 (UTC)

Need clarification[edit source]

In the edit here: https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Special:MobileDiff/14340839 what did you mean by "you have to HAVE 500k or 750k in it to get maximum productivity, it's not talking about what it TAKES per day", why would you have 500k/750k? There is 0 explanation for it there. If this is valid, then an explanation should be added Deiv (talk) 22:39, 5 November 2022 (UTC)

@Deiv: What do you mean? The explanation is in the same paragraph that you edited. It takes 10% of your coffer up to 50k or 75k daily, if it can't take out the maximum withdrawal then it takes out less but reduces your efficiency.

The amount withdrawn from the coffers each day is equivalent to 5gp+10% of the balance with a maximum withdrawal of 50,000 coins, or 75,000 coins after Royal Trouble has been completed. Due to this, if the player wishes to achieve maximum productivity, the coffers must have at least 500,000 coins, or 750,000 coins after Royal Trouble, in the coffers per day. Anything less will result in lessened productivity.

Additional header for the reversion you did for Karil's Cbow?[edit source]

In the change https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Karil%27s_crossbow?diff=next&oldid=14415352 , you mentioned it's information that shouldn't be there/overly verbose but in the introductory paragraphs, it is mentioned MSB would be the alternate for those on a 'budget', which is why I put DPS/price discussions to begin with.

What if there was instead an added Header near the bottom with the same information? It's still valuable information, Karil's is basically a cheaper Dwarven Cannon, but more pricey MSB (i) with Amethyst Arrows (it actually has more DPS though than the latter) and speeds up certain Slayer tasks tremendously. Seenan (talk) 16:58, 8 June 2023 (UTC)

A cannon is a blanket addition to dps on top of any other setup, so talking about cannon compared to a weapon's dps seems entirely irrelevant to me. It's not "a cheaper cannon", it's just a weapon.
In addition, I'm not really convinced that this is valuable information in the first place, certainly not valuable enough to warrant the amount of "information" you added to the page. The additions were not written well and I'm not really a fan of talking about strategies on item pages in the first place, to me that's just theory crafting that should lead to recommendations on strategy pages or guides and not be on any pages other than talk pages.
The dps compared to a msb or msbi with amethyst arrows is essentially the exact same, my calcs show less than 1% difference in a setup with god dhides and 80 ranged, the gap gets smaller as you increase ranged level. They're just about the same costs too, amethyst arrows are cheaper right now if you use average ge prices, but the 28gp difference if you buy them at the shop instead is small enough that I'd assume it gets closed from shop prices going up the more you buy from them. So I'm not sure how it'd speed up slayer tasks beyond the very minor increase in dps, unless you're saying to use full karil's with an amulet of the damned for the multi-shot, which is absurdly bad dps and therefore would slow your tasks down lol. zTUG5mD.png Crow  17:41, 8 June 2023 (UTC)

Ok. Can I at least add that it's a 0.4-0.9% DPS increase over the MSB (i) with Amethyst Arrows at all levels/gear (not including set effect(s)) since that's something we supposedly agree on? I guess I'll leave the cost analysis alone.

I'm not entirely sure how to calculate the set effect with amulet in RS calculations for Karil's (the OSRS DPS Calc also doesn't have it), but on a brief calc, it adds up to be 0.125 (25% chance to hit with an added 50% damage), so a theoretical 12.5% damage increase on a regular hit. Assuming I can just multiply the % increase with the DPS, that's theoretically stronger than any MSB setup unless it has Masori's instead of D'hide, to which they're close again. Only issue is how expensive Karil's ends up being in the long run vs the investment of Masori's, naturally. Math me up if the calculation is wrong. Seenan (talk) 18:46, 8 June 2023 (UTC)

I doubt that's actually true for every single situation so I'd rather you not.
Bitterkoekje's dps calc has the amulet of the damned effect afaict and is also actually accurate unlike a lot of online ones. But you don't even need to really dps calc this since it's effectively just a 12.5% damage bonus (it's a 25% chance to hit 50% more), 12.5% is lower than slayer helmet's 15% so it should always be worse, plus you lose the accuracy bonus and whatever your amulet slot's stats were. zTUG5mD.png Crow  19:43, 8 June 2023 (UTC)

To be clear, I meant off-task calculations. I used the updated version of Bitterkoekje's calculator (his sheet links to the updated one), and off-Slayer task, Karil's with amulet of the damned is still stronger than full Masori (f) with MSB (all extra pieces are duplicated) unless there's a Zaryte Vampbrace involved. I was talking about general DPS calculations. Considering the cost difference of Masori (f) to Karil's, you would think it's pretty significant that Karils can be on-par with it...On-task, Slayer Helm (i) naturally wins.

Armor pieces are Karils with Amulet, Barrows Gloves, God D'hide boots, Archer Ring (i) vs full Masori (f) and the same other gear, with an Anguish and Amethyst Arrows. 99 Ranged, Super Ranging Pot, Rigour.

I also tried it with subbing out the boots and gloves for Pegasian Boots and Zaryte Vampbraces -- only then, at the upper echelons of damage (excluding Crystal/anything above Masori/changing MSB out) does it beat Karil's with amulet by 2.4% due to getting a max hit (not including raids buffs). If factoring in Smelling Salts or Overload in Raids, then Karil's takes over again by at least 1.4%. The breakpoints of when Masori with MSB stops being better is 93 with Zaryte Vampbraces and 94 without them, but 99 Masori (f) wins due to max hit gain with Zaryte.

Anyway -- my point has been that this set effect is significantly stronger than you think it is, along with the crossbow itself being either stronger than MSB (i) or within a small disparity (differs due to when max hits are obtained), in which case, it's still within 0.03-5% damage for 80+ ranged (the only odd time it's close to 5% is at level 83 for some reason), to which the disparity gets lower as levels get higher. If Masori hits a max hit, it goes higher but then a next level equalizes the max hit discrepancy as Karil's gets one to be within 1% of either Karils or Masori (f) setup with MSB being better (usually Karil's has the upper-hand from what I see unless MSB gets swapped out for a stronger weapon or the Zaryte Vampbrace scenario is in play). If money as no object, then yes, Karil's DPS is worse than the set of items that cost several hundred mil.

You can go try the calculations if you don't believe me. You'll see that Masori wins for the most part in lower levels, but then in higher levels, Karil's takes over for the most part when vs MSB with super set of armor/pot/prayer unless Masori hits a max hit, to which Karils overtakes on the next max hit when possible. DT2 Boss Tablet Drop Rates[edit source]

It's a suspected edit. We can change it if it turns out to be faulty. All other drop rates have "~" in front. This is no different.

KingAresIV (talk) 16:54, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

Do you have a sample size of over 1 million kills? Cause that's what the common loot rates were derived from. Don't add speculative drop rates without a very large sample size, it's actively harmful if users see inaccurate rates for uniques. zTUG5mD.png Crow  16:57, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
