Vote in the Weird Gloop elections![edit source]

Hi Liosrakia!

Because of your involvement with the wiki, you are eligible to vote on the candidates for the board of Weird Gloop, the company that hosts the RuneScape and Old School RuneScape wikis.

See meta:Weird Gloop elections for general information about this process (and how to vote – it'll take maybe 5 minutes), and meta:Weird Gloop elections/2019/Candidates for candidate presentations.

There are 4 candidates for OSRSW and 4 candidates for RSW, and 1 candidate for pt-RSW. If you'd like to influence who represents the voices of these communities inside the company, I strongly encourage you to vote! You are one of only 204 people that meet the requirements, and this is your opportunity to help shape the future of the wikis.

Thanks! ʞooɔ 01:00, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

Citation needed for rock depletion[edit source]

Hey there, I noticed you were adding {{Citation needed}} to the lines stating that rocks deplete when a resource is collected. What is the reason you're adding that? I think it's common knowledge that mining an ore also depletes the rock, right? If the wording of the rock pages is unclear about that, feel free to clarify the text to explain this more clearly. Heads up, I don't think you were intending to be rude but you come off as fairly brusque in this message. But to address your question- apologies, I can certainly remove that. I misunderstood what I was reading. The wording is not particularly clear- in this context seems like it's indicating an additional effect (e.g., additionally the resource depletes) whereas it should simply state that this is a typical event (e.g, After acquiring the conditional drop, the <ore in question> will deplete as normal, unless affected by mining gloves or their variants.) That being said, I genuinely don't think this line is necessary to begin with. If there is no additional effect upon acquiring a conditional drop, then why note it at all? At the very least it should be changed in the way I outliend, or something similar. As is I don't believe the statment provides any constructive amount of information. Thanks for keeping us vigilant.

Kindly, Liosrakia (talk) 15:34, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

Apologies for coming across that way, I didn't intend to be rude. I think I can agree with the idea that the line is unclear currently. I think it could be useful to reword the sentence before that to:
"The following table shows items which can additionally be received upon a successful resource roll, which depletes the rock (unless affected by effects such as Mining gloves)."
Alternatively, the mentioning of the depletion of the rock could be moved to the table that mentions the main drops (the table with the ore itself), and then change the message above the tertiary drops to:
"The following table shows items which can additionally be received in addition to the main resource."
What are your thoughts about these suggestions? Joeytje50 talk Santa hat.png 15:37, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
I like both of these. Here's how I picture your suggestion.
At ore table- "The probability for a player to receive a [ore] drop depends on the player's mining level. <new line> The rock will deplete after receieving the [ore], unless affected by the effect of a mining glove. <new line>
Then, as you stated for the tertiary drops changes to "The following table shows items which can be recieved in addition the main resource."
How does this sound to you? To me this answers the question the original line was trying to answer for the user (how do conditional drops affect the rock) and also fixes the clarity issues we were looking at.

Edit- Just wanted to add that I'm using the "After acquiring the conditional drop, the <type of rock> will deplete as normal, unless affected by the appropriate Mining glove." as a placeholder for now, but only becase it's just a slightly better version of what was already there. As the ultiamte goal is not to restate it but come up something that is better overall this definitely should not be seen as the final product as I 100% want your feedback on what we end up doing, and your suggestions have been really great. Best, Liosrakia (talk) 16:10, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
Yeah that sounds like a good solution to me. The temporary solution you used also looks clear, but I think the proposed wording you used above works better for overall clarity; especially considering the statement about depleting the rock is moved to the main resources, which to me is a more logical place to put it. I'd say go ahead with the wording you suggested. If you want my opinion on anything else just let me know.
PS: I've indented your response message, as is convention for talk page conversations here. You can indent text by starting a line by a number of :s equal to the indentation level.
Joeytje50 talk Santa hat.png 16:22, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
Sorry about that! I think my brain doesn't think about the indents because I normally prefer reading in those flat lines (like a psychopath lol) but clarity wise I can totally see how it's better to indent. Glad you like the proposed solution with the depletion moved to the main resource section and the wording I used. I'll go ahead and scrub the temp solution and move forward with that!
