|Examine||A fiendish embodiment of water.|
|Attack style||Magic, Magical ranged|
|Slayer XP||128 xp|
Waterfiends can be found in the Ancient Cavern underneath the Baxtorian Falls, Kraken Cove and Iorwerth Dungeon. They are moderately resistant to all forms of combat with the exception of crush attacks, which they are significantly more vulnerable against. They use a magic attack whose projectile resembles Water Blast, along with a magical ranged attack resembling ice arrows.
Duradel and Konar quo Maten are the only Slayer masters who assign waterfiends, and are a rare assignment. To unlock waterfiends as a task, players must have at least level 75 combat (unless they have requested Slayer masters ignore combat level requirements), and have progressed Barbarian training up to being prompted to access to the Ancient cavern as part of Barbarian Firemaking training.
Killing a waterfiend is a requirement for an elite clue scroll.

Strategies[edit | edit source]
Recommend blocking or skipping however, the simplest way to reach waterfiends is by accessing the Ancient Cavern, found south of the Barbarian Outpost. A games necklace allows for easy trips to the bank.
If Song of the Elves is completed the Iorwerth Dungeon is also a quick teleport away with a teleport crystal.
Because waterfiends use both magic and ranged, circumventing all of their damage through protection prayers is not possible. However, both of their attacks are rolled against the player's total magic resistance. Therefore, only armour which provides magic defence bonus, such as dragonhide or Karil's armour, is helpful when fighting waterfiends.
Using crush attacks is ideal for dealing damage. If crush weapons are not available, some high level weapons, such as the Saradomin sword and the leaf-bladed battleaxe, possess a secondary crush attack which is sufficient given the very low crush defence bonus of waterfiends.
Alternatively, ranged is also effective as most magic-resistant armour also provides a substantial ranged attack bonus.
Using Protect from Missiles is recommended for those struggling to defend against waterfiends. Players should also consider including Mystic Might in their quick-prayers for the added magic bonus.
Many of the waterfiends' drops are ideal for casting High Level Alchemy on.
Players may also safespot waterfiends across the river using Ranged or Magic, or by tanking out the aggression timer and using the stalagmite across the river to the north-west.
Drops[edit | edit source]
The following drop rates are provided by Jagex, unless otherwise specified.
The average waterfiend kill is worth 4,017.83.
For waterfiends in the Prifddinas Slayer Dungeon, the average kill is worth an additional 730 due to the additional chance of receiving a crystal shard as a tertiary drop. This value for crystal shards assumes that they are made into divine super combat potions.
If on a Konar task in the Prifddinas Slayer Dungeon, the average kill from Brimstone Keys and crystal shards is worth an additional 1,899.
