Yak-hide armour

Yak-hide armour is a type of members only armour requiring 20 Defence to wear. It can be crafted from tanned yak hide or bought from other players.

The raw materials are dropped by yaks on the Fremennik Isles. Once a yak hide has been obtained, the player can take it to Thakkrad Sigmundson, who will tan them for a price. Three hides are required for the full set.

The armour is primarily used in the Fremennik Isles quest, during which it is described - along with the Neitiznot shield - as the traditional armour of Neitiznot.^[1] Thakkrad suggests that the top is used to protect oneself from the trolls' granite clubs.^[2]

Despite Thakkrad's claims, the armour does not offer special protection beyond its defensive bonuses, unlike the Neitiznot shield, which reduces the max hit of rocks thrown by the trolls.^[3] The legs provide a ranged accuracy bonus, but the top does not. Yak-hide armour counts as warm clothing for the Wintertodt.
