Shimmering shoals are a type of mixed shoal requiring level 69 Fishing to fish from, which have a 10% chance to spawn in place of a giant krill shoal or haddock shoal whilst deep sea trawling. Like the aforementioned shoals, shimmering shoals only swim at a shallow depth, and as such can be caught with a rope trawling net.

Shimmering shoals will appear once a shoal begins moving again, and will last for two stops before reverting back to the original shoal. Their movements and stop timer are also identical to the original shoal.

Shimmering shoals have better chances for a successful catch, and will also yield raw halibut and yellowfin in addition to raw giant krill and haddock.

A shimmering shoal can be spotted by the sight of yellowfins swimming around.

Catch chance

edit

A roll for a successful catch is performed every 4 ticks (2.4s), indicated by the small amount of Sailing experience granted whenever this occurs. This can be increased to every 2 ticks (1.2s) by clicking the trawling net every tick. For crewmates, a roll is performed every 5 ticks (3s), giving a flat 4% chance of a successful catch.

If rod fishing, a roll is performed every 5 ticks (3s) - the same as regular fishing.

Fish distribution

edit

The following drop rates are provided by Jagex, unless otherwise specified.

Upon a successful roll for a catch from a shimmering shoal, the game will roll a 1/1,000 chance for the rare fish table, then perform another roll to determine the type of fish the player will receive.

Below lists the effective drop rates upon a successful catch.
