A Missing Fox

[edit | edit source]

Talking to Guildmaster Apatura

[edit | edit source]
  • If the player does not meet the quest's requirements:
    • Guildmaster Apatura: Sorry, but you need to be a better hunter before we can help you out.
    • You need 46 Hunter to access Hunter Guild amenities.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • Guildmaster Apatura: Oh, you're a new face around here, aren't you?
  • Player: I am indeed. Just exploring the savannah.
  • Guildmaster Apatura: Well, I'm Apatura. Let me welcome you to our small corner of Varlamore.
  • Select an Option
  • What do you do here?
    • Player: What do you do here?
    • Guildmaster Apatura: We're mostly here to keep an eye on the local animal populations, and provide animal parts to the city.
    • Guildmaster Apatura: As for me personally, I'm the current master of this guild.
    • Player: Current master?
    • Guildmaster Apatura: A hunter's work is dangerous. We tend to go through members faster than other guilds. That said, I'm usually too busy with politics and paperwork to go out hunting these days.
    • Player: Could I hunt with the guild?
    • Guildmaster Apatura: Absolutely! There's always more work to be done. Head down into the Burrow and talk to the other hunters to get an idea of what we need help with.
  • Can I help you with anything?
    • Player: Can I help you with anything?
    • Guildmaster Apatura: I'm not sure if you have the time or the patience, iknami, but a little birdy told me that our esteemed scribe Verity may require some assistance.
    • Player: What sort of assistance?
    • Guildmaster Apatura: If I had to guess, she needs someone to find something for her.
    • Guildmaster Apatura: She's a wonderful scribe, but can lose some strange things here and there.
    • Start the At First Light quest?
    • Yes.
      • Player: Great! Point me in her direction and I'll get cracking!
      • Guildmaster Apatura: She's behind the bar in the Burrow. Just look for the stressed woman trying to wrangle a bunch of barely- bathed hunters.
      • (End of dialogue)
    • No.
      • Player: I'm not sure I have the time for that right now.
      • Guildmaster Apatura: Tetamo... Well, hopefully it's not too important.
      • (End of dialogue)
  • I'd better be off.
    • Player: I'd better be off.
    • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Apatura again

[edit | edit source]
  • Guildmaster Apatura: Nilsal, hunter.
  • Player: Nilsal, Apatura.
  • Select an Option
  • What do you do here?
    • (Same as above)
  • Are you free to talk about my quest?
    • Player: Are you free to talk about my quest?
    • Guildmaster Apatura: Absolutely. Have you spoken to Verity yet?
    • Player: No, not quite yet.
    • Guildmaster Apatura: If you're having a hard time finding her, she's behind the bar in the Burrow. Head down the stairs in the big tree. You can't miss it, and if you can, maybe you're not cut out for the Hunter Guild.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • I'd better be off.
    • (Same as above)

Talking to Guild Scribe Verity

[edit | edit source]
  • If the player has never talked to Guild Scribe Verity:
    • Guild Scribe Verity: Oh, hello there newcomer. I'm Guild Scribe Verity. Do you need me to explain the work we do here?
    • Player: Yes please.
    • Guild Scribe Verity: So it's nice and simple. Just chat to any of the hunters in here to help them out. They're all following reports that I've split up amongst them.
    • Player: Reports?
    • Guild Scribe Verity: Indeed. There are all sorts of interesting creatures to hunt out there. Sometimes we get reports of a particularly unique example. When that happens, one of the hunters will set out to find it.
    • Guild Scribe Verity: If you do decide to take a job from any of the hunters, they'll tell you what type of creature they're looking into. Hunt that creature until you encounter the unique specimen.
    • Guild Scribe Verity: Once you've caught it, bring some proof back to the hunter that sent you out in the first place. I'm sure they'll reward you for your time.
    • Player: I see. Thanks for the information.
    • Guild Scribe Verity: Now, what else can I do for you.
    • Player: Well actually, I heard there might be something I could help you with?
    • (Continues below)
  • If the player has previously talked to Guild Scribe Verity:
    • Player: Hi Verity. I heard there might be something I could help you with?
    • (Continues below)
  • Guild Scribe Verity: You'll have to be slightly more specific. There's always something that needs doing down here!
  • Player: Something a little birdy may have told Apatura?
  • Guild Scribe Verity: Tetamo... Pitri needs to stop twittering with the birds. Yes, Gilman and I are concerned about Fox. He left quietly in the night, but we have no record of what he was doing.
  • Player: Do you normally keep track of the hunters here?
  • Guild Scribe Verity: We try to, but it's like herding cats! We at least like to keep an eye on what they're hunting and point them in the right direction. It prevents us from losing track of too many creatures... or people.
  • Player: Could anyone else have put Fox onto a hunt?
  • Guild Scribe Verity: If anyone did, it would've been Wolf. She's always getting Fox into some kind of trouble.
  • Player: I'll follow up with her then.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Verity again

[edit | edit source]
  • Guild Scribe Verity: Have you spoken to Wolf yet?
  • Player: Not yet. I'll have a chat to her now.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Guildmaster Apatura after talking to Verity

[edit | edit source]
  • Guildmaster Apatura: Nilsal, hunter.
  • Player: Nilsal, Apatura.
  • Select an Option
  • (Non-quest dialogue) What do you do here?
  • Are you free to talk about my quest?
    • Player: Are you free to talk about my quest?
    • Guildmaster Apatura: Absolutely. So was our little birdy right about Verity needing a hand?
    • Player: They were... It wasn't an actual bird was it?
    • Guildmaster Apatura: Of course not. Only Pitri talks to the birds.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • (Non-quest dialogue) I'd better be off.

Talking to Guild Hunter Wolf

[edit | edit source]
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): So, here to ask me what trouble I've gotten Fox into, are you?
  • Player: That's not quite how I'd word it... but how did you know?
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): I've honed my instincts over the years.
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): Well, that and the fact you had that whole conversation within earshot.
  • Player: Right... So did you send Fox out to do something?
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): Sort of. He's on some very unofficial business for me.
  • Player: How unofficial?
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): If I told you... I'd have to kill you!
  • Player: ...
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): Your face! Don't worry, I'm just pulling your leg.
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): I asked him to look into making some repairs to Kiko's bed. It's been getting tatty lately. I'm guessing he didn't end up having the materials needed. That'll be why he headed out.
  • Player: Well then I guess the first step is to work out what he went to get. Could I take a look at Kiko's bed?
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): You're welcome to try, but you'll need to convince Kiko to let you. He's just by the table there.
  • Player: Any advice for convincing him?
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): He's very easy to distract. We have a little fake mouse we use sometimes.
  • If the player has no inventory space:
    • Player: Could I borrow it when I have a free hand to take it?
    • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): Sure thing.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • Player: Could I borrow it to have a go at distracting him?
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): Absolutely!
  • Wolf hands you a small toy mouse.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Wolf again

[edit | edit source]
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): Have you checked Kiko's bed yet? It's just to the side of this table.
  • If the player has inventory space and has not yet gotten the mouse:
    • Player: Not yet. Could I grab that mouse to distract him with?
    • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): Absolutely.
    • Wolf hands you a small toy mouse.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If the player has the toy mouse in their inventory:
    • Player: Not yet. I'll get to it now.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If the player lost the toy mouse:
    • Player: Not yet. Do you happen to have that mouse to distract him with?
    • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): I already gave it to you. If you've lost it, you'll need to get another for yourself. I'd do so quickly if I were you. Kiko won't be happy if he finds out it's gone.
    • (End of dialogue)

Petting Kiko

[edit | edit source]
  • If the player doesn't have a catspeak amulet or Dragon Slayer II completed:
    • You pet the cat, who leans into your hand in return.
  • Guild Hunter Kiko: Can you scratch my belly next? It's perfectly safe.
  • (End of dialogue)

Using an unwound toy mouse on Kiko

[edit | edit source]
  • Guild Hunter Kiko: Are you not going to wind it up first? Come on now, put some effort in.
  • (End of dialogue)

Checking the cat bed

[edit | edit source]
  • Guild Hunter Kiko: Do you mind? I'm trying to sleep here.
  • If the player has a toy mouse (wound):
    • Player: Here you go, little guy.
    • Guild Hunter Kiko: A mouse? Fantastic!
    • You check the cat's bed. It sure could use a little bit of love... and a lot of repairs. It's made of a luxurious fluffy fur that you don't recognise. It looks like someone has intentionally cut off a small bit of it.
  • (End of dialogue)

Using a wound toy mouse on Kiko or the cat bed

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Here you go, little guy.
  • Kiko happily starts playing with the toy mouse.
  • (Same as above)

Checking the bed again

[edit | edit source]
  • You see that the cat's bed is unsurprisingly still in need of repairs.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Wolf after inspecting the cat bed

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: I managed to have a look at that bed. I've never seen such luxury material for a cat bed before.
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): Only the best for our Kiko.
  • Player: I'm guessing it's the actual fur itself that Fox will be looking to replace. It looks like he cut a small bit off. I don't suppose you know where he'd have gone to get that.
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): We have a contact who lives in Outer Fortis. She stocks the best of the best when it comes to fabrics. That'll be where he went, but knowing Fox, he won't have gone directly there.
  • Player: Why not?
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): He'll have stopped off for a bit of hunting first. There are some pyre foxes about halfway between here and the Locus Oasis that he was eyeing up. I bet that's where you'll find him.
  • Player: In that case, I'd better get out there then.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Wolf again

[edit | edit source]
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): Have you found Fox?
  • Player: I haven't yet. You said he might be hunting pyre foxes, right?
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): That's right. They're about halfway between here and the Locus Oasis.
  • Player: Thanks. I'll head over there.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Verity after speaking to Wolf

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: It seems like Fox is trying to find something to repair Kiko's bed with.
  • Guild Scribe Verity: Why does that not surprise me? There's two things that man loves: that cat, and not filing in his reports correctly.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Guildmaster Apatura after checking the cat bed

[edit | edit source]
  • Guildmaster Apatura: Nilsal, hunter.
  • Player: Nilsal, Apatura.

  • (Non-quest dialogue) What do you do here?
  • Are you free to talk about my quest?
    • Player: Are you free to talk about my quest?
    • Guildmaster Apatura: Absolutely.
    • Player: I checked in with Verity and apparently Fox has gone missing.
    • Guildmaster Apatura: Ha, that certainly sounds like Fox! What errand has Wolf got him running this time?
    • Player: How did you know Wolf was involved?
    • Guildmaster Apatura: Let's just say you don't run things around here without good instincts. Let me guess - it's also got something to do with Kiko.
    • Player: That's spot on! How did you know?
    • Guildmaster Apatura: It's an open secret how much Fox and Wolf care about that cat. We all do of course, but those two don't half spoil him rotten.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • (Non-quest dialogue) I'd better be off.

Fox Tracking

[edit | edit source]

Talking to Guild Hunter Fox

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Are you Fox? Everyone's worried about you.
  • Guild Hunter Fox: Something attacked me in the dark... I can't move much...
  • Player: Can I help you? Maybe patch you up?
  • Guild Hunter Fox: That would be much appreciated! There should be a couple of plants around to make a poultice... Hold it together with an embertailed jerboa tail, and...
  • Guild Hunter Fox: There should be a couple of plants around to make a... make a...
  • Player: Stay with me, Fox! Where are these plants?
  • Guild Hunter Fox: It's a bit fuzzy... I've lost a lot of blood! One should be around here... the other may be near the oasis... with the capybabas... haha, capybaras...
  • Player: And what am I making with them?
  • Guild Hunter Fox: A poultice! And hold it together with the tail from an embertailed jerboa.
  • Player: Plants. Tail. Poultice. On it.
  • Guild Hunter Fox: Don't forget... your traps for the jerboa... they're boxy...
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Fox again

[edit | edit source]
  • Guild Hunter Fox: How's that poul... pool... poultice... Did you find the plants?
  • Select an Option
  • I think I've got them both.
    • Player: I think I've got them both.
    • Guild Hunter Fox: It doesn't look like you do... Who's the one with the head wound again?
    • (End of dialogue)
  • Where can I find them?
    • Player: Where can I find them?
    • Guild Hunter Fox: It's a bit fuzzy... I've lost a lot of blood! One should be around here... the other may be near the oasis... with the capybabas... haha, capybaras...
    • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Guildmaster Apatura after finding Guild Hunter Fox

    • Player: Are you free to talk about my quest?
    • Guildmaster Apatura: Absolutely.
    • Player: Fox has been injured out in the savannah!
    • Guildmaster Apatura: Well, that is impressive. How has he managed that?
    • Player: He said he was attacked by an unknown assailant.
    • Guildmaster Apatura: Well as you're not offering your condolences, I can only assume he's survived the encounter?
    • Player: He should be fine once I help him make a poultice for the wound.
    • Guildmaster Apatura: Excellent. A final question - was his hand injured?
    • Player: No?
    • Guildmaster Apatura: Wonderful! Then I look foward to reading his report.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • (Non-quest dialogue) I'd better be off.

Talking to Guild Hunter Wolf after talking to Fox

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: I've found Fox. He's been injured by something out in the savannah.
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): Oh no... I should've offered to go with him. It's never sensible to be out after dark alone...
  • Player: I'm going to do what I can to make sure he's okay.
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): Well thanks for checking in at least. He's still breathing and that's all Fox needs to come out on top.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Guild Scribe Verity after talking to Fox

[edit | edit source]
  • Guild Scribe Verity: Any updates on Fox?
  • Player: He's been injured out in the savannah, but I'll do my best to make sure he makes it back.
  • Guild Scribe Verity: Tetamo! Only he could get injured on an errand for a cat!
  • (End of dialogue)

Picking the leafy bush

[edit | edit source]
  • If the player does not have a smooth leaf:
    • You pull a smooth leaf off the bush.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If the player already has a smooth leaf:
    • Player: I don't think I need any more leaves from this bush.
    • (End of dialogue)

Picking the rough-looking bush

[edit | edit source]
  • If the player does not have a sticky leaf:
    • You pull a sticky leaf off the bush.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If the player already has a sticky leaf:
    • Player: I don't think I need any more leaves from this bush.
    • (End of dialogue)

Using two poultice ingredients together without the third

[edit | edit source]
  • You need leaves from two different plants along with an embertailed jerboa tail to make the poultice Fox asked for.
  • (End of dialogue)

Using two poultice ingredients together while holding all three

[edit | edit source]
  • You craft a makeshift poultice. It looks like it should just about do the job.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Fox with the makeshift poultice

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: I have that poultice here for you.
  • You give the poultice to Fox.
  • Guild Hunter Fox: Kuani! That's making a difference already.
  • Player: Happy to help. Now, how did you get on finding what you needed to fix Kiko's bed?
  • Guild Hunter Fox: I thought a little detour wouldn't hurt. I'd caught a glimpse of the most stunning pelt ever seen!
  • Guild Hunter Fox: As I was tracking it, I was attacked and knocked out. When I came to, it was gone.
  • Player: Gone?
  • Guild Hunter Fox: Without a trace, as well as most of my hunting equipment.
  • Player: Do you think someone attacked you for it, or was it just an opportunist looting you?
  • Guild Hunter Fox: I was unconscious.
  • Player: Right, of course.
  • Guild Hunter Fox: You've already done me a huge favour, but I don't suppose I could ask for one more small one?
  • Player: I suppose I could. Especially if it goes towards repairing that cat's bed and getting you back to the guild.
  • If the player has no inventory space:
    • Guild Hunter Fox: Well it's your lucky day! Make some room and I'll give you the sample needed to fix the bed.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • Guild Hunter Fox: Well it's your lucky day! Take this sample to a woman called Atza in Outer Fortis. She'll have exactly what we need.
  • Player: Where in the outskirts can I find her? And... what exactly do we need, again?
  • Guild Hunter Fox: She lives by the south western gate of the city. She'll be able to give us the matching fur to repair the cat's bed with.
  • Fox gives you a fur sample.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Fox after giving him the poultice

Talking to Fox before getting the fur sample with inventory space

[edit | edit source]
  • Guild Hunter Fox: Perfect! Here you go!
  • Fox gives you a fur sample.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Fox again

[edit | edit source]
  • If the player still has the fur sample or has a full inventory and not yet received the sample:
    • Guild Hunter Fox: Any success with Atza yet?
    • Player: Not quite.
    • Guild Hunter Fox: If you're struggling to find her, she's in Outer Fortis, near the south western gate.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If the player lost the fur sample and has a full inventory:
    • Player: I appear to have lost the sample you gave me...
    • Guild Hunter Fox: Luckily, I always come prepared. Here's a spare.
    • Player: Ah. It seems I don't have room for it.
    • Guild Hunter Fox: Well I'm not going anywhere. Let me know when you do have room.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If the player lost the fur sample:
    • Player: I don't suppose you've got another sample of Kiko's bed for me to take to Atza?
    • Guild Hunter Fox: Fortunately for you, I'm always prepared... And our thief clearly didn't care for fine fur samples.
    • Player: That's convenient! Usually I'm the one that's always ready for these situations.
    • Fox gives you a fur sample.
    • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Guildmaster Apatura after giving Guild Hunter Fox the poultice

    • Player: We're getting there. I should have everything sorted very soon.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • (Non-quest dialogue) I'd better be off.

Talking to Guild Hunter Wolf after giving Fox the poultice

[edit | edit source]
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): How's the Fox situation?
  • Player: He's doing well. He's got me doing a few things for him whilst he recuperates.
  • Guild Hunter Wolf (Master): Ha! Now that's the Fox I know. I'll have to give him some odd jobs once he's back to make up for ones you're covering!
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Guild Scribe Verity after giving Fox the poultice

[edit | edit source]
  • Guild Scribe Verity: Any updates on Fox?
  • Player: I'm still working on it, but I'm getting there.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Atza

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Hi there. You must be Atza. I heard you're the person to talk to about getting some material to match a sample?
  • Atza: I might be. Depends who's asking... and what you're looking for, of course.
  • Player: Your friend Fox was going to bring this sample to you, but he's been a little... waylaid.
  • Atza: Well, this wouldn't be the first time! Let's take a look.
  • If the player lost the sample:
    • Player: I don't seem to have it with me.
    • Atza: You'll have to go back to Fox and grab it then.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • You give the fur sample to Atza.
  • Player: Here you go.
  • Atza: Good, good. Luckily for you, I recognise this fur. I do have a bit left, but I'll have to dig it out.
  • Player: Shall I just wait here then?
  • Atza: Oh... Fox usually helps me with my chores when he visits.
  • Player: That's funny. He didn't mention that to me.
  • Atza: That's alright, I'm sure a capable adventurer like you will manage fine. Fox was going to assemble some equipment for me. You can manage that, can't you?
  • Player: I suppose so. Where do I start?
  • Atza: It's all in that pile on the floor there. You can work it out, I'm sure.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Atza after giving her the fur

[edit | edit source]
  • Atza: Now, luckily for you, I recognise this fur. I do have a bit left, but I'll have to dig it out.
  • Player: Shall I just wait here then?
  • (Same as above)

Talking to Fox after giving Atza the material

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Hello again. I've given Atza the fur sample.
  • Guild Hunter Fox: Did she give you the matching material?
  • Player: Not yet. I should check back in with her.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Atza after she asks to set up the equipment

[edit | edit source]
  • Atza: Don't forget, I need a hand setting up that equipment on the floor!
  • Player: Don't worry, I'm on it.
  • (End of dialogue)

Setting up the pile of equipment without a hammer

[edit | edit source]
  • You need a hammer to set up this equipment.
  • (End of dialogue)

Setting up the pile of equipment

[edit | edit source]
  • Atza: So anyway, how did you come to be doing this for Fox?
  • Player: Well, he actually got attacked on his way over here.
  • Atza: Shouldn't you be helping him heal up?
  • Player: Oh he'll be alright. He was on the mend when I left him.
  • Player: All done!
  • Atza: Oh, that's looking much better.
  • Player: Now that's done, did you manage to find the material?
  • Atza: Yes, I have it here.
  • Atza gives you some trimmed fur.
  • Atza: Thanks for your help today. I hope that fur works for your project.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Atza after setting up the equipment

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Now that's done, did you manage to find the material?
  • If the player has no inventory space:
    • Atza: Yes, but you don't have enough room for it! Come back when you have space.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • Atza: Yes, I have it here.
  • Atza gives you some trimmed fur.

Talking to Atza again

[edit | edit source]
  • If the player lost the trimmed fur:
    • Player: Could I get a replacement for that fur? I managed to lose it.
    • Atza: You can, for now. I don't have an unlimited supply though, so be careful.
    • If the player has no inventory space:
      • Atza: Ah, you don't have space for that.
      • (End of dialogue)
    • Atza gives you some trimmed fur.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If the player still has the trimmed fur:
    • Atza: You should take that material back to Fox.
    • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Fox

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Hello again. I got the fur from Atza. She's certainly... something.
  • Guild Hunter Fox: She didn't make you do odd jobs for her, did she?
  • Player: How did you know?
  • Guild Hunter Fox: She does it every time I visit!
  • If the player has no inventory space:
    • Guild Hunter Fox: Now, I'll need you to take this report back to Verity, but it looks like you don't have space for it at the moment.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • Guild Hunter Fox: Anyway, now that's that, would you mind letting Wolf and Verity know I'm okay? Oh, and can you take my report back to the guild?
  • Guild Hunter Fox: Please apologise to Verity for the condition it's in. Oh, and of course, don't forget to use that fur along with another embertailed jerboa tail to fix Kiko's bed!
  • Player: Want me to save the world while I'm at it?
  • Guild Hunter Fox: No need! You've already saved my world by making Kiko happy.
  • Fox gives you a report.
  • (End of dialogue)

Reading Fox's report

[edit | edit source]
  • It's Fox's report. It details the creature he was tracking, his attack, and my help.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Fox again

[edit | edit source]
  • If the player lost Fox's report:
    • Player: I've lost your report.
    • If the player has no inventory space:
      • Guild Hunter Fox: How is it you've lost the report and yet you somehow don't have space for another one?

      • (End of dialogue)

    • Fox writes up another report and hands it to you.

    • Guild Hunter Fox: Hello there. Have you taken that report back to Verity yet?
    • Player: Not yet. I still need to get around to it.
