Page 1.

The discovery of an extensive set of caverns beneath the savannah warrants further exploration. It is likely we could enclose the mouth of the cavern and protect the cenote to provide shelter and water, but we lack many of the tools we would need to carve out the stone or construct any amenities. We will of course welcome anyone skilled in hunting to help provision the base, as animals are plentiful.

Of note, a large tree appears to have taken root above the caverns, presumably taking life from the water within. I will be sending most of the travelling party back with this letter whilst the rest of us delve a little deeper.
