Standard dialogue[edit | edit source]

  • Duke Horacio: Greetings. Welcome to my castle.
    • I seek a shield that will protect me from dragonbreath.
      • Player: I seek a shield that will protect me from dragonbreath.
      • Duke Horacio: A knight going on a dragon quest, hmm? What dragon do you intend to slay?
        • During the Dragon Slayer quest.
          • Player: Elvarg, the dragon of Crandor island!
          • Duke Horatio:Elvarg? Are you sure?
            • Yes.
              • Player: Yes.
              • Duke Horacio: Well, you're a braver man/woman than I!
              • Player: Why is everyone so scared of this dragon?
              • Duke Horacio: Back in my father's day, Crandor was an important city-state. Politically it was as important as Falador and Varrock and its ships traded with every port. But, one day, when I was little, all contact was lost. The trading ships and the diplomatic envoys just stopped coming. I remember my father being very scared. He posted lookouts on the roof to warn if the dragon was approaching. All the city rulers worried that Elvarg would devastate the whole continent.
                • I'd better leave that dragon alone.
                  • Player: I'd better leave that dragon alone.
                  • Duke Horacio: That's a relief. I would hate to see such a promising adventurer cut down in his/her prime.
                  • (End of dialogue)
                • So, are you going to give me the shield or not?
                  • Player: So, are you going to give me the shield or not?
                  • Duke Horacio: If you really think you're up to it then perhaps you are the one who can kill this dragon.
                  • The Duke hands you a heavy orange shield.
                  • Player receives Anti-dragon shield.
                  • Duke Horacio: Take care out there. If you kill it... If you kill it, for Saradomin's sake make sure it's really dead!
                  • (End of dialogue)
            • No.
              • Duke Horacio: Very wise. There are some monsters that are best left alone.
              • (End of dialogue)
              • Oh, no dragon in particular. I just feel like killing a dragon.
              • Player: Oh, no dragon in particular. I just feel like killing a dragon.
              • Duke Horacio: I don't have an infinite supply of these shields, you know. I'll only give one for a truly worthy cause.
              • (End of dialogue)
        • After the Dragon Slayer quest.
          • Player: Oh, no dragon in particular. I just feel like killing a dragon.
          • Duke Horatio: Of course. Now you've slain Elvarg, you've earned the right to call the shield your own!
    • Have you any quests for me?
      • Player: Have you any quests for me?
        • Before starting the Rune Mysteries quest.
          • Duke Horacio: Well, it's not really a quest but I recently discovered this strange talisman.
          • Duke Horacio: It seems to be mystical and I have never seen anything like it before. Would you take it to the head wizard at
          • Duke Horacio: the Wizards' Tower for me? It's just south-west of here and should not take you very long at all. I would be awfully grateful.
            • Yes.
              • Player: Sure, no problem.
              • Duke Horatio: Thank you very much, stranger. I am sure the head wizard will reward you for such an interesting find.
              • Player receives air talisman.
              • The Duke hands you an air talisman.
              • (End of dialogue)
            • No.
              • Player: Not right now.
              • Duke Horacio: As you wish, stranger, although I have this strange feeling that it is important. Unfortunately, I cannot leave my castle unattended.
              • (End of dialogue)
        • After starting the Rune Mysteries quest and still having the talisman.
          • Duke Horatio: The only task remotely approaching a quest is the delivery of that talisman I gave you to the head wizard of the Wizards' Tower,
          • Duke Horatio: south-west of here. I suggest you deliver it to him as soon as possible. I have the oddest feeling that it is important...
        • After starting the Rune Mysteries quest and having lost the talisman.
          • Duke Horatio: Did you speak to the head wizard for me yet, adventurer?
          • Player: No, I lost that air talisman that you gave me.
          • Duke Horatio: Ah, that would explain it. One of my servants found this outside, and it seemed too much of a coincidence that more than one strange
          • Duke Horatio: object would appear on my land in such a short period of time. Please take this to the head wizard at the Wizards' Tower, south-west of here, and don't lose it this time.
          • Player receives air talisman.
          • The Duke hands you an air talisman.
          • (End of dialogue)
        • After giving the talisman to Sedridor.
          • Duke Horacio: No, all is well for me.
          • (End of dialogue)
    • Where can I find money?
      • Player: Where can I find money?
      • Duke Horacio: I've heard that the blacksmiths are prosperous amongst the peasantry. Maybe you could try your hand at that?

During the 2018 Christmas event[edit | edit source]

Initial conversation[edit | edit source]

  • Duke Horacio: Hello there, welcome to Lumbridge. (First time only)

OR

  • Duke Horacio: Greetings. Welcome to my castle.
  1. Talk about Lumbridge holiday event.
    • Player: What's with all the snow?
    • Duke Horatio: A particularly harsh winter for Lumbridge this year. Still, we make the best of it. I hope all our new visitors aren't getting too cold.
    • The following dialogue is determined by the age of the account. A player is no longer considered "new" once they have spent at least 1 hour in the game.
    • If the player is new. A player is no longer considered "new" once they have spent at least 1 hour in the game.
    1. Player: I'm not new!
      • Duke Horacio: Oh yes, I know that.
    2. Player: Who cares about them?
      • Duke Horacio: Well... I do.
    3. Player: What do you need?
      • Duke Horacio: Ah...
    • If the player is not new
    1. Player: I'm ok, though I am new around town.
      • Duke Horatio: Then doubly welcome you are to Lumbridge.
    2. Player: Actually yes, I am rather cold.
      • Duke Horacio: Well... I may be able to help there.
    3. Player: Who are you calling new?
      • Duke Horacio: I haven't seen you around much before, that's all.
      • Duke Horatio: I wonder if you might help me with a little project of mine?
      1. Player: Yes, I can help.
        • Duke Horatio: Great! Thank you!
        • Duke Horatio: So, I have seen how much extra work the Lumbridge citizens are putting in recently, what with so many new adventurers in town. I'd like to give them something back.
        • Player: And here comes the but...
        • Duke Horatio: How did you know? But... I have to stay here in my room as I have so much paperwork to do.
        • Player: So I'm delivering the presents? I get to be Santa?
        • Duke Horatio: Um. Not quite, but nearly!
        • Player: What do you mean... not quite?
        • Duke Horatio: Well, I don't want them to see you deliver it.
        • Player: What? Why? How?
        • Duke Horatio: Well it kind of looks lazy on my part doesn't it. I'd like you to disguise yourself... as a tree.
        • Player: A TREE?
        • Duke Horatio: Yes, a festive tree, as if I'd planted the tree near them and it's holding a present for them... isn't that a wonderful idea?
        • Player: If by wonderful you mean awful... I suppose you want me to cut bits off trees and stick them to myself and decorate it with something shiny?
        • Duke Horatio: How did you know?
        • Player: I'm leaving now.
        • Duke Horatio: Oh very good... leaving... well done.
  2. Talk about something else.

Subsequent conversations[edit | edit source]

  • Duke Horacio: Greetings. Welcome to my castle.
  1. Talk about Lumbridge holiday event.
    • Duke Horatio: The snowy trees out there look so treemendously festive, you should use some of their branches to decorate them.
    • Player: What about a decoration on top, I don't want to be involved with creepy dolls again.
    • Duke Horatio: Oh no, no, no. I think you'll be able to find something star like to put on your head, maybe from the church?
      1. 'Player: Where do I get the tree branches from?
        • Duke Horatio: The snowy trees out there look so treemendously festive, you should just use some of their branches, but leave the big one alone. Just take something sharp to them. A knife or some shears should do the job.
        • Player: I don't think I can take anymore puns.
        • Duke Horatio: Stick with it, it'll soon be over.
      2. Player: Where do I get the decoration?
        • Duke Horatio: Well, not out of my crown! Get it? Crown?
        • Player: Must not react to pun...
        • Duke Horatio: OH ok, have it your way. I noticed a barrel of old waste material near the furnace. You should be able to find some there. Oh, and don't forget you can probably borrow a star from the church.
      3. Player: How do I put it all together?
        • Duke Horatio: Well, thread is too light and rope is too heavy for this job... You could try some wool?
      4. Player: Why do I need it again?
        • Duke Horatio: To deliver my presents of course!
        • Player: Oh yeah... you're too busy to do it yourself and don't want them to know that I did it. Pretty poor excuse.
        • Duke Horatio: Hey, I have a town to run, it's not all it's cracked up to be you know.
        • Player: That was an egg pun, wrong holiday.
        • Duke Horatio: How very pithy of you. It wasn't meant to be a pun!
    1. Player: No thanks, bye.
  2. Talk about something else.

After making the Christmas tree costume[edit | edit source]

Initial conversation[edit | edit source]

If not wearing the costume:

  • Duke Horacio: Greetings. Welcome to my castle.
  1. Talk about Lumbridge holiday event.
    • Duke Horacio: I see you've got your disguise sorted out, you really should wear it for it to be effective though.
  2. Talk about something else.

If wearing the costume:

  • Duke Horacio: Greetings. Welcome to my castle.
  1. Talk about Lumbridge holiday event.
    • Duke Horacio: Is that tree talking to me? I must be ill.
    • Player: It's me, Player!
    • Duke Horacio: And there was me thinking that yew wouldn't have made something that convincing.
    • Player: So what do I have to do?
    • Duke Horacio: Here, I've written it all down for you.
    • Duke Horacio hands you a neatly written list.
    • (Lumbridge task list shows.)
  2. Talk about something else.

Questions about the list[edit | edit source]

  • I have questions about:
  1. Present for Hans.
    • Duke Horacio: Ah Hans, loyal to a fault. He walks the castle grounds all day, everyday. He really could do with a sit down, don't you think? Take my chair, just over there.
  2. Present for Count Check.
    • Duke Horacio: Count Check... he's a bit of an odd one isn't he? He's obsesed[sic] with counting. He loves counting, especially shiny things. The other day I was chatting to him and he was completely unable to take his eyes off the golden rings on my fingers. Perhaps he'd like some of those. However, they're not normal gold rings, like you would make. These I get specially from the apprentice near the furnace.
  3. Present for Gillie.
    • Duke Horacio: The lovely Gillie. Such pure white milk she brings us daily. But she is so run off her feet. She often suggests that we should find a magic spell to duplicate her! What a notion. I'm surprised we don't hear the same complaints from Bob.
  4. Present for Farmer Fred.
    • Duke Horacio: Fred? Such a wholesome farmer. He does his job with the chickens and cows well. However, it wasn't his first choice of profession. He wanted to grow fruit trees you know. The one planted in the castle grounds sure did catch his eye.
  5. Present for Doom Sayer.
  6. Duke Horacio: He's so gloomy, everything is doom doom doom. He needs some light entertainment. I heard he used to be a friend of Party Pete, in Falador, maybe ask him.
  7. Nothing.

During the 2020 Birthday event[edit | edit source]

  • Horacio: It's not often I get to leave Lumbridge, but when I do, I like to go a little wild.
  • (End of dialogue)
