Vote in the Weird Gloop elections!

edit

Hi Daem0z!

Because of your involvement with the wiki, you are eligible to vote on the candidates for the board of Weird Gloop, the company that hosts the RuneScape and Old School RuneScape wikis.

See meta:Weird Gloop elections for general information about this process (and how to vote – it'll take maybe 5 minutes), and meta:Weird Gloop elections/2019/Candidates for candidate presentations.

There are 4 candidates for OSRSW and 4 candidates for RSW, and 1 candidate for pt-RSW. If you'd like to influence who represents the voices of these communities inside the company, I strongly encourage you to vote! You are one of only 204 people that meet the requirements, and this is your opportunity to help shape the future of the wikis.

About extracting Old School RuneScape Music

edit

I'm not sure if you mean extracting the MIDI files or the music itself. But i use the following: The cache downloaded using a program called 'Old School RuneScape Cache downloader', search in Github for 'OSRSCD' from PertinaxRS and you will find it.

For extracting the MIDI files from the cache you can use the following java project: Search for 'RuneScape-MIDI-Player-Suite' by lequietriot in Github.

I edit the MIDI file to add one note somewhere far behind the ending of the track so the music player doesn't abrupt playing the track at the end (like in Barb Wire) with the program 'Sekaiju'. In Piano view of an opened track i scroll way to the right and add one note in the silence after the track has ended and save it.

The modified client however is not public. I'm not sure if i can publish/share it for copyright reasons.

Then i use an ffmpeg and sox to remove the silence from the tracks and convert it to a wav file. Save this in .bat:
cd %~dp0
FOR %%A IN (*.dat) DO ffmpeg -f s16le -ar 22.05k -ac 2 -i %%A -af silenceremove=detection=peak:start_periods=1:stop_periods=1:stop_duration=12 -c:a pcm_f32le "%%~dpnA.wav" && sox "%%~dpnA.wav" "%%~dpnA-converted.wav" pad 0.4 0.4 && del "%%~dpnA.wav"
pause

Finally i use Izotope RX to upsample it to 44.1kHZ using the following settings: New sample rate: 44100
Filter steepness: 100
Cutoff shift: 1,00
Pre-ringing: 1,00
Post-limiter on.

I also use dithering (the normal preset) since the converted wav file is in 32-bit float bit format to retain it's quality even after upsampled. So dithering needs to happen to go back to it's normal bit format to allow it to convert to ogg and flac without side effects: 16-bits.

Also, for loud files (like H.A.M. Attack) i use a low volume (in this case 64 instead of 256) and normalize it with Izotope to the max peak of -1.00 db so every track has a lot of room to breathe and not being clipped intensly.

These 3 or 2 steps i use them in batch processing mode (Ctrl+B) with a preset with normalizing and not normalizing.

It's a pretty compicated process to set up, but i hope you know a bit on how i RIP the music from the game.

EDIT: I had removed the modified client part since that link was not the client but rather something else. I'm not sure i can share it regardless, so sadly i cannot help with that for now.

Do you have any old computers you played RuneScape on?

edit

Hi Daem0z!

Recently we've been trying to recover lost versions of RuneScape that Jagex didn't save. We're asking anybody who played from 2001-2012 to check old computers, laptops, hard drives, or backups for old RuneScape files.

Your userpage says you've been playing since 2005, so it's very likely that you have one of the missing versions. It would be great if you could search any old devices you may have so that these older versions of RuneScape aren't lost forever.

If you have any questions, feel free to join our Discord which shows the specific files we are looking for in full detail, and where people can help guide you through the search. Alternatively you can read our page on the Lost Media Wiki, and leave a message on my talk page.
