On when Sliske took over
[edit source]Jagex didn't put out a transcript for the DT2 Lore Q&A, but I typed out an excerpt for the part where he answers on when specifically Sliske took over the people players interacted with in case it might be relevant:
I might disappoint a few people here when I say I'm not going to give a true answer, because there isn't one; the whole point of it is that you don't know. You don't know when he replaced them, and I've already seen so many fun speculations on when it might have happened. That's sort of very much part of this, where its open to interpretation. There's lots of stuff in the game, some more obvious than others, that can lead you into multiple directions; it's all intentionally quite vague and unclear. One thing I really like the idea of was that maybe Sliske himself is planting false seeds as to when he might have done it to keep the player guessing. Intentionally, when writing it, we never specified an answer on when he took over from these people, and we're probably going to keep it that way, to remain unanswered, because its one of those things where its just more fun to wonder exactly when it happened. I know people really wanted me to answer, so I'll give you my personal take on it, but this is not canon, please don't go putting this on the wiki afterwards. This is my own personal take. The whole point is that everyone's personal take should be different, because that's what makes it fun. My personal take is that it varies from character to character, and that some characters have always been Sliske, so literally any interaction you've had with them have always been him, and I think that is probably true for Ketla and almost certainly true for Persten as well. But for the other three, I'd like to imagine that at least some of the player's interactions with them were while they were still themselves, and then Sliske took over, depending on which character, earlier or later. The assassin probably happened earlier on. He was probably working for Sliske, and then died, and then Sliske took over where he left off. One of the things Sliske says, and he could be lying - again, this isn't something we've set in stone and is another thing I'd like to leave open to interpretation - but Sliske at least claims that he didn't kill any of them, that they all died of their on their own. And then he just took over when they did die, and looking at their own stories that's very believable. Let's be honest, Kasonde probably wouldn't have survived the Stranglewood on his own for very long. It's quite believable that he might have died from the strangled, then Sliske took over.
