Standard dialogue before The Dig Site
[edit | edit source]- Player: Hello. Who are you?
- Terry Balando: Good day to you. My name is Terry Balando; I am an expert on digsite finds.
- Terry Balando: I am employed by the museum in Varrock to oversee all finds at this digsite. Anything you find must be reported to me.
- Player: Oh, ok. If I find anything of interest I will bring it here.
- Terry Balando: Can I help you at all?
- Select an option
- I have something I need checking out.
- Player: I have something I need checking out.
- Terry Balando: Okay, give it to me and I'll have a look for you.
- (End of dialogue)
- No thanks.
- Player: No thanks.
- Terry Balando: Good, let me know if you find anything unusual.
- (End of dialogue)
- Can you tell me anything about the digsite?
- Player: Can you tell me anything about the digsite?
- Terry Balando: Yes, indeed; I am studying the lives of the settlers. During the end of the third age there used to be a great city at the site.
- Terry Balando: Its inhabitants were humans, supporters of the god Saradomin. It's not recorded what happened to the community here.
- Terry Balando: I suspect nobody has lived here for over a millennium!
- Select an option
- Can you tell me more about the tools an archaeologist uses?
- (Same as below)
- Thank you!
- Player: Thank you!
- (End of dialogue)
- Can you tell me more about the tools an archaeologist uses?
- Player: Can you tell me more about the tools an archaeologist uses?
- Terry Balando: Of course! Let's see now... Rock picks are for splitting rocks or scraping away soil; you can get one from a cupboard in the Education Centre.
- Player: What about sample jars?
- Terry Balando: I think you'll find them scattered about pretty much everywhere, but I know you can get one from a cupboard somewhere in the Education Centre, just like the rock pick!
- Player: Okay, what about a specimen brush?
- Terry Balando: We have a bit of a shortage of those at the moment. You could try borrowing one from a workman on the site... but I don't think they'd give it willingly.
- Player: Sounds like I'll need to be sneaky to get one of those, then... Okay - trowel?
- Terry Balando: Ahh... that you must earn by passing your exams! The examiner holds those.
- Player: Ahh, ok thanks.
- (End of dialogue)
After The Dig Site
[edit | edit source]- (If Desert Treasure I has been completed:) Ask about the Desert Treasure I quest.
- Terry Balando: Hello again. Was that translation any use to Asgarnia?
- Player: I think it was, thanks!
- (End of dialogue)
- Ask about the Digsite quest.
- Terry Balando: Hello again. I am now studying this mysterious altar and its inhabitants. The markings are strange...
- Terry Balando: It refers to a god I have never heard of before, named Zaros. It must be some pagan superstition.
- Terry Balando: That was a great find; who knows what other secrets lie buried beneath the surface of our land...
- (End of dialogue)
Talking to him while the player is wielding an ancient staff
[edit | edit source]- Terry Balando: That staff is incredible! It's the same symbol that was on that talisman you found here. Does this mean you've found out more about Zaros?
- Player: I found out that he was banished, and that the people's hero was trapped in a pyramid and...
- Terry Balando: So you're the one who found out about that. I've heard the story from my friends in the museum. Well done on being able to wield such an impressive symbol.
- Terry Balando: Anyway....
- The dialogue continues to ask about the Digsite quest.
Using items
[edit | edit source]Using an ancient staff on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: What do you think of this?
- (Continues above from "That staff is incredible!")
Using unidentified liquid on him
[edit | edit source]- All unidentified liquids in inventory are replaced with nitroglycerin.
- Player: Do you know what this is?
- Terry Balando: Where did you get this?
- Player: From one of the barrels at the digsite.
- Terry Balando: This is a VERY dangerous liquid called nitroglycerin. Be careful how you handle it. Don't drop it or it will explode!
- (End of dialogue)
Using nitroglycerin on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: Can you tell me any more about this?
- Terry Balando: Nitroglycerin! This is a dangerous substance. This is normally mixed with other chemicals to produce a potent compound.
- Terry Balando: Be sure not to drop it! That stuff is highly volatile...
- (End of dialogue)
Using ammonium nitrate on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: Have a look at this.
- Terry Balando: Really, you do find the most unusual items. I know what this is - it's a strong chemical called ammonium nitrate. Why you want this I'll never know...
- (End of dialogue)
Using mixed chemicals on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: Hey, look at this.
- Terry Balando: Hmm, that looks dangerous. Handle it carefully and don't drop it!
- (End of dialogue)
Using mixed chemicals (with charcoal added) on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: See what I have done with the compound now.
- Terry Balando: Seriously, I think you have a death wish! What on earth are you going to do with that stuff?
- Player: I'll find a use for it!
- (End of dialogue)
Using the chemical compound on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: What do you think about this?
- Terry Balando: What have you concocted now? Just be careful when playing with chemicals!
- (End of dialogue)
Using nuggets on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: I have these gold nuggets...
- If the player has less than 3 nuggets:
- Terry Balando: I can't do much with these nuggets yet. Come back when you have 3 and I will exchange them for you.
- (End of dialogue)
- If the player has at least 3 nuggets:
- Player gives 3 nuggets.
- (Player receives a Gold ore.)
- Terry Balando: Good – that's three; I can exchange them for normal gold now. You can get this refined and make a profit!
- Player: Excellent!
- (End of dialogue)
Using a needle on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: I found a needle.
- Terry Balando: Hmm, yes; I wondered why this race were so well dressed! It looks like they had mastery of needlework.
- (End of dialogue)
Using a rotten apple on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: I found these...
- Terry Balando: Ew! Throw them away this instant!
- (End of dialogue)
Using broken glass on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: Have a look at this glass.
- Terry Balando: Hey you should be careful of that. It might cut your fingers, throw it away!
- (End of dialogue)
Using a broken arrow on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: Have a look at this arrow.
- Terry Balando: No doubt this arrow was shot by a strong warrior – it's split in half! It is not a valuable object though.
- (End of dialogue)
Using a panning tray on him
[edit | edit source]- If the panning tray is empty:
- Terry Balando: I have no need for panning trays!
- (End of dialogue)
- If the panning tray has something in it:
- Terry Balando: Have you searched this tray yet?
- Player: Not that I remember...
- Terry Balando: It may contain something; I don't want to get my hands dirty.
- (End of dialogue)
Using bones on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: Have a look at these bones.
- Terry Balando: Ah, yes – a fine bone example... no noticeable fractures... and in good condition. These are common cow bones, however; they have no archaeological value.
- (End of dialogue)
Using buttons on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: I found these buttons.
- Terry Balando: Let's have a look. Ah, I think these are from the nobility, perhaps a royal servant?
- (End of dialogue)
Using a cracked sample on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: I found this rock...
- Terry Balando: What a shame it's cracked; this looks like it would have been a good sample.
- (End of dialogue)
Using an old tooth on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: Hey look at this.
- Terry Balando: Oh, an old tooth. It looks like it has come from a mighty being. Pity there are no tooth fairies around here!
- (End of dialogue)
Using a rusty sword on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: I found an old sword.
- Terry Balando: Oh, it's very rusty isn't it? I'm not sure this sword belongs here, it looks very out of place.
- (End of dialogue)
Using a broken staff on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: Have a look at this staff.
- Terry Balando: Look at this... Interesting... This appears to belong to a cleric of some kind; certainly not a follower of Saradomin, however.
- Terry Balando: I wonder if there was another civilization here before the Saradominists?
- (End of dialogue)
Using broken armour on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: I found some armour.
- Terry Balando: It looks like the wearer of this fought a mighty battle.
- (End of dialogue)
Using damaged armour on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: I found some old armour.
- Terry Balando: How unusual. This armour doesn't seem to match with the other finds. Keep looking.
- (End of dialogue)
Using ceramic remains on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: I found some pottery pieces.
- Terry Balando: Yes, many parts are discovered. The inhabitants of these parts were great potters.
- Player: You mean they were good at using potions?
- Terry Balando: No, no, silly. They were known for their skill with clay.
- (End of dialogue)
Using a belt buckle on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: Have a look at this unusual item...
- Terry Balando: Let me see. This is a belt buckle. Not so unusual - I should imagine it came from a guard.
- (End of dialogue)
Using an animal skull on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: Have a look at this.

- (End of dialogue)
Using Teddy on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: Have a look at this.

- (End of dialogue)
Using an old boot on him
[edit | edit source]- Player: Have a look at this.
- Terry Balando: Ah yes, an old boot. Not really an ancient artefact, is it?
- (End of dialogue)

[edit | edit source]- The expert has already seen the talisman.
- (End of dialogue)
Using the invitation letter on him
[edit | edit source]- Terry Balando: There's no point in giving me this back!
- (End of dialogue)
Using Stone tablet on him during The Dig Site
[edit | edit source]- Player: I found this in a hidden cavern beneath the digsite.
- Terry Balando: Incredible!
- Player: There is an altar down there. The place is crawling with skeletons!
- Terry Balando: Yuck!
- Terry Balando: This is an amazing discovery! All this while we were convinced that no other race had lived here.
- Terry Balando: It seems the followers of Saradomin have tried to cover up the evidence of the Zaros altar. This whole city must have been built over it!
- Terry Balando: Thanks for your help; your sharp eyes have spotted what many have missed. Here, take this gold as your reward.
- QUEST COMPLETED!
Using Stone tablet on him post quest
[edit | edit source]- Player: Have a look at this.
- Terry Balando: I don't need another tablet! One is enough, thank you.
- (End of dialogue)
