Nitroglycerin is a vial of chemicals used in The Dig Site quest which, when combined with ammonium nitrate, ground charcoal and an arcenia root, create a chemical compound. Unidentified liquid may be obtained by using an empty vial on the barrel with a skull & crossbones symbol, to the west of the tent south of the Digsite, before being brought to Terry Balando for identification. After Terry has identified the liquid, all vials in your inventory will be converted to Nitroglycerin. If the barrel has not previously been opened, a trowel may be used on it in order to do so.

When dropped, a vial of unidentified liquid does 25 damage to the player and causes them to say Ow! The liquid exploded!. This damage is increased to 35 if dropping a vial of nitroglycerin and the message is changed to Ow! the nitroglycerin exploded! However, neither can kill the player in the event that the player's Hitpoints are already 25 or below (35 or below for nitroglycerin). They may be alchemised or destroyed using the incinerator to safely dispose of them.

Trivia

• The item nitroglycerin uses the American spelling of the word nitroglycerine, whereas most items in RuneScape use the British convention of spelling.
• In real life nitroglycerin is the main component of dynamite and also a potent vasodilator (causing dilation of the vascular system) to treat heart conditions. It is too unstable to be handled in its pure form.
• Before the availibility of the Dwarven rock cake or Locator orb, Nitroglycerin was a popular choice for lowering one's HP to use Dharok the Wretched's equipment.
