Steel is the most used bar in the game

[edit source]

What confirmation is there that this is true ? While steel bars may be advertised more for trading, I see a lot of advertising for iron smithable products (knives especially), indicating that iron bars may be smithed in comparable numbers to steel bars.

Since there's currently no good evidence that steel (or iron, or any other bar) is the most used in the game, I removed that tidbit of information for now.

Lovakite section

[edit source]

Lovakite needs a section under the Smithing header. Either I will add it later or someone snags it before me. Jakesterwars (talk) 22:19, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

High Level Alchemy column in each smithing table

[edit source]

Planning on adding the high alch values to the smithing tables, and maybe a gp/bar column for hi alch too. Then planning on doing the same for fletching.

Goal is to make that information easily accessible, in consideration of all the ironman accounts running around. MisplacedEnnui (talk) 22:01, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

Thoughts on the current state of this page

[edit source]
  1. The final sentence of the opening paragraph gives a wrong impression of the skill. In particular the claim that "many smithable items are useful in combat, quests [...]". Smithing plays a tiny role in combat; not in F2P, not for UIM, not in the early game, not in the mid game, not in the late game. The effect on quests is also minimal. I propose that we change the sentence to something along the lines of "In practice, players rarely smith weapons and armour from bars to use them in combat. Rather, they are often sold to shops or alchemised for coins. Severable smithable items are raw materials used in Fletching and Crafting."
  2. Much of the page is cluttered with tables that belong in calculator pages. I propose that we replace all standard metal sections with a single metal X type-of-item table, and another table for the special items (bronze wire, cannonballs, spits, etc.).
  3. The section on Making Money focuses on alchemy and selling to shops. It should focus on things like dart tips, making the profitable alchables, profitable bars, bulk selling vs. GE, cannonbals.

can we add a similar section on this skill, and all skills, for diaries requiring the skill? similar to the quests requiring skill section

The achievement diary page has a list of skill requirements, see here for Smithing. Adding them here would bloat the page too much IMO. YoshiFan12 (talk) 17:14, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

"Leveling" is misspelled under the box that indicates the audio when leveling up: "Smithing level up - with unlocks. The music that plays when levelling up and unlocking new content."

levelling is actually the correct uk english spelling, so the normal one was wrong, I fixed it now zTUG5mD.png Crow  00:33, 19 June 2025 (UTC)

"The most average metal"

[edit source]

Why on earth are we listing Steel as "The most average metal"? What does that even mean in this context 😭
I don't want to remove it in case there is some obvious meaning/purpose behind this note that I am missing, but it seems a bit unnecessary! --Slimelia (talk) 13:07, 29 July 2025 (UTC)

Was just glancing and noticed there is no hyperlinks or even any mentions to the process of smithing oathplate, or requirements to make it in the smithing skill page. Figured I would mention it. I really appreciate the amount of work you guys put in this wiki is incredible. I couldnt play this game without it keep it up <3
