Gentle rapids are fast and turbulent circular vortexes found within The Storm Tempor. To boats without an iron helm, they deal damage, while providing speed boosts to boats with iron helm or better.

Completing a sea's charting tasks will unlock gentle rapids around that sea. (Update for later level seas)

It appears that they provide a speed boost of +0.5 tiles per tick, per rapid traversed. Their speed boost also stacks with sail trimming. The speed decays, eventually lowering back down to the base speed of the hull.

Their usage is key in The Tempor Tantrum Barracuda Trial.
