Guide:Speedrunning guide
Speedrunning consists of trying to accomplish a specific goal in a game within a set of parameters as quickly as possible.
If you are looking to experience Old School RuneScape in a new and interesting way, speedrunning offers a surprisingly unique, challenging, and rewarding view of game.
This page provides information on the speedrunning categories that are hosted on Speedrun.com. These categories are what the community has shown to be the most interesting sets of repeatable "goals" in Old School RuneScape. However, the categories are always open to be modified or expanded as the community sees fit.

General Rules
[edit | edit source]These rules apply to all categories, in addition to any other category specific rules.
- Timing must be RTA.
- Mouse cursor must be visible.
- Skippy is not allowed.
- Official Jagex Client or RuneLite must be used.
- If using RuneLite, no custom plugins or plugins downloaded from the plugin hub (such as Quest Helper, Pathfinder, Shortest Path) may be enabled.
- Multilogging is allowed for most runs, but must be marked on the run submission.
(Multilogging is any other account having a direct effect on the run that the runner could control. For example, manipulating NPC locations on an alt account, or picking up the ashes from another player's fire.)
New Account Setup
[edit | edit source]Each run is completed with a brand new account, so each run needs a unique email address. If the run requires you to get money from the Stronghold of Security, the account will need to have the authenticator enabled.
For runs that do not require an authenticator:
[edit | edit source]You do not need to have access to the email used, and as such can use a random keyboard spam email.
For runs that do require an authenticator:
[edit | edit source]There is a workaround to use one email address for all of your accounts, which allows you to not have to set up a new email address for every authenticator run.
Create a new email address. (it is recommended that you setup a short and memorable gmail account "usernamerun@gmail.com".)
You can then use the email "usernamerun+1@gmail.com", and increment it by one each run.
Your RuneScape login will be "usernamerun+1@gmail.com" and the authentication email will go to "usernamerun@gmail.com". Only the characters before the "+" symbol will be registered as the email address.

General Running Knowledge
[edit | edit source]If you log in to a new account, log out without finishing character creation, then log back in - You will no longer have the character creation screen, and the run is considered started here.
Hold spacebar through all dialogue.
Use number keys for all dialogue.
Run depletes faster the more weight you are carrying. Stockpile run energy while carrying a heavy load, and run when you have a light load.
Always be in motion. Click doors and be walking on the next game tick. Stay prepared for your next action.
The openness of the game means there are a huge number of backup strats available to a runner. Much of this run was built from strats discovered on the fly after something went wrong. As it is in life, it is also so in speedrunning - there are no mistakes, only "happy little accidents".
