An unbreakable rock... or stone

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Hello!
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: What?
  • Player: I said hello!
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Hello!
  • Select an option
  • Who are you?
    • Player: Who are you?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Why, I'm Dondakan, of course!
    • (Shows previous options)
  • Why are you firing a cannon at a wall?
    • Player: Why are you firing a cannon at a wall?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: It's not a wall! It's a rock!
    • Player: What's the difference?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: It's a very special rock!
    • Player: I still don't quite follow...
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Oh, for Guthix' sake, it's perfectly simple! See, that rock over there, it's impenetrable!
    • Player: Have you tried taking a pickaxe to it?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Of course I have, I'm holding this rune pickaxe, aren't I? We've been trying to mine through it for years!
    • Player: We? I don't see anyone else.
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Well, I'm the only one left... all the others gave up. Said it wasn't worth their while anymore. Wouldn't have a good return profit on their time investment.
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: At first we thought there might be a huge treasure behind the rock, you see.
    • Player: Isn't there?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Until we had a look further down the stream, around the rock... no, there's no treasure there, just a dead end.
    • Player: Okay... so why were you trying to get through the rock again?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Because obviously there are vast deposits of minerals inside the rock! And if not, I want to harness the extreme hardness of the rock itself!
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: The only problem is that I have run out of ideas on how to do it.
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Perhaps a young adventurer like you is willing to help out an old dwarf like me? Want to find out what's inside the rock?
    • Start the Between a Rock... quest?
    • Yes.
      • Player: Sure, sounds interesting!
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Welcome aboard then!
      • (End of dialogue)
    • No.
      • Player: No thanks, I do enough mining on my own.
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Suit yourself, I don't need any help from a human anyway!
      • (End of dialogue)
  • Bit noisy here, isn't it?
    • Player: Bit noisy here, isn't it?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Cozy? No, not really, it's damp and cold!
    • Player: No! I said it's noisy!
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Then stop shouting!
    • (Shows previous options)
  • Goodbye!
    • Player: Goodbye!
    • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Dondakan after accepting the quest

[edit | edit source]
  • Select an option
  • Any idea on what's inside?
    • Player: Any idea on what's inside the rock?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: No, but that's where you come in!
    • Player: How so?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: I want you to find out some more information on the rock.
    • Player: Now where would I do that?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: I don't know! Wish I knew!
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: But we have to get some better understanding of what this thing actually is. Maybe then we can find a way to break it open.
    • Player: And what are you going to do while I go running across half of Gielinor, I'll wager?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: I'll guard my cannon and fire more cannonballs at it, of course! Wish I had your job, mine's a tough one!
    • Player: Want to trade places?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: My legs are too old and worn to do much running around anymore, I'm afraid.
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Well, off you go now! Start running, start talking!
    • Player: But I still don't know where!
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Oh, why so difficult?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Look, try the city, further down the stream here. There's bound to be someone there who knows something. If you still can't find anyone, go to the librarian, he knows a lot.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • What did you need me to do?
    • Player: What did you need me to do?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: I want you to find out some more information on the rock.
    • Player: Now where would I do that?
    • (Same as above)
  • I'll be back later.
    • Player: I'll be back later.
    • (End of dialogue)

Knowledge of rocks

[edit | edit source]
  • Librarian: Welcome to the Keldagrim library, human traveller!
  • Select an option
  • (Non-quest dialogue) Can you tell me more about the library?
  • What do you know about impenetrable rocks?
    • Player: What do you know about impenetrable rocks?
    • Librarian: You're confusing me, what rock exactly are you talking about?
    • Player: The big one in the mines south of the city. Dondakan's big rock.
    • Librarian: I see, I see.
    • Librarian: But I don't know much about that rock, I'm afraid. It's baffled us for many generations.
    • Librarian: There is a dwarf in the mechanics shop, though, who I believe has some connections with a certain scholar.
    • Player: Where can I find him exactly?
    • Librarian: Go south to the palace, the shop is called Wemund's Wrench Warehouse. He should be working there somewhere.
    • Player: Thanks!
    • (End of dialogue)

Engineer, I need your attention

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Do you know anything about this rock in the mines?
  • Dwarven Engineer: Now what rock would that be, exactly?
  • Player: The big rock in the mines to the south, with an old dwarf standing beside it..?
  • Dwarven Engineer: Ah, Don's rock, right?
  • Player: Er, yes, I think so. Do you know what it's made of?
  • Dwarven Engineer: No, no one knows. No one here, anyway. The only one I can think of is Rolad, a renowned scholar. He was part of Dondakan's team once, many years ago.
  • Player: So where can I find this Rolad?
  • Dwarven Engineer: He left to explore the world. Learning by experience, or so he said. Me, I prefer a cold stout at home, but it takes all sorts.
  • Dwarven Engineer: I think he's currently with the Black Guard at Ice Mountain.
  • Player: Great, thanks a lot!
  • (End of dialogue)

Rolad the scholar

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Excuse me... would you happen to be Rolad the scholar?
  • Rolad: Why, yes, I think so... who's asking?
  • Player: [player name], and I've come to ask you about a rock.
  • Rolad: You're awfully tall for a dwarf, you know, [player name]. And a rock you say? I suppose I know a fair bit about rocks, yes.
  • Player: It's this rock that Dondakan is trying to break open. You know Dondakan, right?
  • Rolad: Oh, old Dondakan, sure I know him. And I know his rock too. It's that unbreakable one, isn't it?
  • Player: Yes, that's the one. What can you tell me about it?
  • Rolad: Well, as a matter of fact, I picked up an interesting book on one of my travels, from a quite out of the way dwarven outpost.
  • Rolad: I'm not entirely sure, but it seems to describe this very rock, and how it came to be placed in that cavern. I tore out the most interesting pages for more detailed perusal. Let me get them for you.
  • There is a slight pause, as Rolad realizes something is wrong.
  • Rolad: Oh dear...
  • Player: What's wrong?
  • Rolad: I seem to have misplaced the pages... a pity, I had wanted to study them some more. Oh well...
  • Player: What? No! I need that book!
  • Rolad: Oh, well, if it's that important to you, perhaps you can go and look for the pages? There should be three of them.
  • Player: Where should I start looking?
  • Rolad: I probably lost them in the mines below. I don't have them up here in any case.
  • Player: What, in the mining guild?
  • Rolad: No no, I never go there, I'm not a member you know. But I sometimes go down to the regular mines to study the conditions of the working dwarf.
  • Player: Okay, thanks, I'll go and look for the pages then.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Dondakan after learning about the book

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Rolad has a book that might help us!
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: A book? How's a book going to help? What's in it?
  • Player: Well, that's the problem... the most important pages are missing.
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Then run along and find them!
  • (End of dialogue)

Hi ho, hi ho, now where'd those pages go?

[edit | edit source]
  • Without free inventory spaces:
    • You turn over the corpse of the scorpion and find a missing page of Rolad's book! Unfortunately, you can't carry it and are forced to drop it on the ground.
    • At the bottom of the cart you find a missing page of Rolad's book! Unfortunately, you can't carry it and are forced to drop it on the ground.
    • You see something lying just behind the rock you just mined... it's a missing page of Rolad's book!
    • Unfortunately, you can't carry it and are forced to drop it on the ground.
  • With free inventory spaces:
    • You turn over the corpse of the scorpion and find a missing page of Rolad's book!
    • At the bottom of the cart you find a missing page of Rolad's book!
    • You see something lying just behind the rock you just mined... it's a missing page of Rolad's book!
  • You've found all three of Rolad's missing pages. Return them to him so he can put them back in his book.

Talking to Rolad again

[edit | edit source]
  • Rolad: How are you getting on with finding those missing pages?
  • If the player is yet to find any pages:
    • Player: I haven't found a single one yet, I have no idea where I should be looking.
    • Rolad: Down in the mines below, that'd be my best bet. I don't know where though, they could be anywhere down there.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If the player has found only one page:
    • Player: Well, I found the first page, but I still have two to go.
    • Rolad: That's splendid, keep going and you'll find them all, I'm sure!
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If the player has found only two pages:
    • Player: I found two of the pages! But I haven't found the last one yet.
    • Rolad: Marvelous! I'm sure it's only a matter of time before you find the final page!
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If the player has found all of the pages:
    • Player: Look, I found all of your missing pages!
    • Rolad: Missing pages..?[sic]
    • Player: Yes, the missing pages of that book we were talking about earlier?
    • Rolad: Oh yes, quite right... let me see them, please, and I'll put the book back together for you.
    • Player hands over the pages to Rolad.
    • Rolad: There you go... You will give it back when you've finished with it, won't you? I'd really like to study it in more detail some time.
    • Select an option
    • Of course.
      • Player: Of course, I'd be happy to!
      • Rolad: Splendid, now, there's a good dwarf!
      • (End of dialogue)
    • Of course. (lie)
      • Player: Of course... when I've finished with it I'll give it back to you, sure...
      • Rolad: Splendid, now, there's a good dwarf!
      • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Rolad before reading the book

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Thanks again for that book, I really appreciate it.
  • Rolad: Oh yes, have you read it yet?
  • Player: No, not yet, but I will.
  • (End of dialogue)

After reading the book

[edit | edit source]
  • That certainly was an interesting read! You now have enough info for Dondakan. You should go back to him.
  • (End of dialogue)

If the player loses the book before reading it

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Ahem... errr... I lost that book you gave me.
  • Rolad: That's terrible! Have you even read it yet?
  • Player: No, I hadn't had the chance yet.
  • Rolad: Well, here, I happened to have a copy of it. Try not to lose it this time!
  • Player: Wait, if you had a copy of it, why did I have to look for your missing pages?
  • Rolad: I suppose I just forgot that I had one.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Rolad after reading the book

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: That was quite an interesting book you gave me.
  • Rolad: Oh yes, have you read it yet?
  • Player: Yes, but I'd like to hang on to it a little longer, if I may.
  • Rolad: Why, naturally, that's no problem for someone with such a keen interest in expanding [his/her/their] knowledge!
  • (End of dialogue)

Going (for the) gold

[edit | edit source]

Returning to Dondakan

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Rolad gave me a book that was quite interesting to read! I think I know what's inside it!
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: What? What? Tell me!
  • Player: Ehm, well... a demonic spirit for one...
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: A what?
  • Player: A demonic spirit! And apparently the inside of the rock is lined with gold!
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Gold? Did you say gold?
  • Player: Yes... and a de-
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Gold! I knew it! I struck gold! I'm set for life!
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: What's left of it anyway...
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Now tell me, how do I break open the rock?
  • Player: Sorry, the book doesn't say... it doesn't seem to be particularly concerned with actually breaking open the rock. You see, the demonic spirit is being kept inside it.
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Yes yes, I heard you the first time.
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Well, we're not very much closer to a solution then, are we?
  • Select an option
  • What have you tried so far?
    • Player: What have you tried so far?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Well, let's see...
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: At one time, we had a hundred dwarves in here, all picking away at the rock. Didn't do a thing.
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Then there was the time when we set fire to this whole section of the cave. What a smell that made!
    • Player: Any effect?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Apart from coating the rock with soot? Not really, no.
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: I was able to borrow a cannon from the Black Guard, my son was able to pull some strings you know.
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Of course, steel cannonballs didn't make a dent. But then ol' Donnie had a clever idea.
    • Player: Oh really?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: I made this adamantite cannonball, you see! Cost me quite a pile of coins too!
    • Player: Wow! That must have made quite an impact!
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Well, yes, it did... when it bounced back onto the ground it did.
    • Select an option
    • What else did you try?
      • Player: What else did you try?
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Well, then I had an even more clever idea!
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: I put an even bigger pile of coins together to get some rune cannonballs! Good idea, right?
      • Player: Yeah, great!
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: No, it wasn't. Didn't do anything! Nothing at all!
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Latest thing I've tried are these boots.
      • Player: Nice boots... but what about them?
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: They're made out of granite! I don't have enough money left to make granite cannonballs though. But see!
      • Dondakan walks up the passage, kicks it, and walks back.
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Did you see? Did you?
      • Player: I er... didn't see anything.
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: That's because there wasn't anything to see! Even granite doesn't do anything to it!
      • Player: And now I have to come up with a material that will affect it somehow?
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: You got it!
      • Player: Some kind of new material that no one has ever found before but which I am supposed to accidentally stumble upon, perhaps?
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Don't be silly, I'm sure there must be some known material that will affect it.
      • (Shows previous options)
    • I'm tired of these stories.
      • Player: I'm tired of these stories.
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Go on then... leave an old dwarf to his work.
      • (End of dialogue)
  • Maybe we need to set up another cannon?
    • Player: Maybe we should set up another cannon?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Another cannon? How will that help?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: No, no, what we need is a different material of cannonballs. The hardest, toughest you can find.
    • Player: How do you mean, that I can find? What are you doing then?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: I'm guarding the cannon. Won't do us much good if it were stolen, would it?
    • (Shows previous options)
  • I'll be back later.
    • Player: I'll be back later.
    • (End of dialogue)

Using different metal ores/bars on Dondakan

[edit | edit source]
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Tried that, didn't work.
  • (End of dialogue)

Using random items on Dondakan

[edit | edit source]
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: What am I supposed to do with that?
  • (End of dialogue)

Using 'perfect' gold on Dondakan

[edit | edit source]
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Perfect gold? That's much too valuable to be used to make cannonballs!
  • (End of dialogue)

Using gold ore/bar on Dondakan

[edit | edit source]
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Haha, you want me to make a golden cannonball?
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: You know that apart from being heavy it's also very soft, don't you? It'd be a pointless waste!
  • Player: Well... the book does say that there's gold inside the rock, so I thought perhaps gold can damage it as well.
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Hmm, I suppose you have a point there.
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Tell you what, if you make a golden cannonball and give it to me, I'll fire it at the rock.
  • (End of dialogue)

Using a gold ore/bar on Dondakan again

[edit | edit source]
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Yes, you already showed me that. But I'm not going to waste my own gold on it, make a cannonball and bring it to me.
  • (End of dialogue)

Using gold bar on a furnace with an ammo mould

[edit | edit source]
  • Do you wish to make a golden cannonball?
  • Yes.
    • You heat the gold bar
    • ...You heat the gold bar to a liquid state...
    • ...You pour it into your cannonball mould...
    • ...You then leave it to cool for a short while.
    • You make one beautiful golden cannonball.
  • No.
    • Shows regular crafting options

Using the golden cannonball on Dondakan

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: I have that golden cannonball you asked me to make.
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: That... that... that's an amazing looking cannonball!
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Are you sure you want me to fire it at the rock? It's going to make a nasty dent in it. In the cannonball that is.
  • Select an option
  • Yes, I'm sure this will crack open the rock.
    • Player: Yes, I'm sure this will crack open the rock.
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: It breaks my heart to ruin such a fine piece of crafting, but it's your gold... Alright, let's load it up then.
    • The cannon fires the golden cannonball through the passage
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Did... did... did you see that?
    • Player: The cannonball went right through it!
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: I don't believe it! All this time, I've been spending all my gold on opening the rock... I could've just thrown it at it!
    • Player: But... the rock didn't actually break, did it?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: No, it seemed more like it... gave way for a second... That's interesting...
    • Player: So how does this help us?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Why, I'll just shoot you through it so you can have a look, won't I?
    • Player: Shoot me... through it? Errr... what exactly do you mean?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Very simple. I'll have to make a few modifications to my cannon so that it can fire a human, and you'll need a golden helmet of course.
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Then I'll fire you at the rock so you can do a little reconnaissance. Don't worry, you should land safely on the other side of the rock.
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Might want to pick up that cannonball again while you're at it!
    • Player: But... what if I bump into that demon, the one from the book?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Don't be silly now. It's just a rock... just a rock with lots of gold in it!
    • Select an option
    • So you want to... fire me into the rock?
      • Player: So you want to... fire me into the rock?
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Yes, just to see what's inside... to see if all that gold is really embedded inside it.
      • Player: Are you sure that it's safe?
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: No, but then we'll never know until we've tried it, right?
      • Select an option
      • Find someone else for your bizarre experiment!
        • Player: Find someone else for your bizarre experiment, I'm not going to crawl into that cannon of yours! Or have you shoot me at a solid rock!
        • Dondakan the Dwarf: But we're so close to all that gold!
        • Player: Forget it.
        • (End of dialogue)
      • I can't argue with that, shoot me in!
        • Player: I can't argue with that, shoot me in!
        • Dondakan the Dwarf: Well, it's not so simple... like I said, I need to make some modifications to my cannon. They're not really designed to fire humans, you know.
        • Player: Okay, I'll just wait right here until you've made them.
        • Dondakan the Dwarf: I don't really know how, actually. Never been much of an engineer.
        • Dondakan the Dwarf: If I had the right schematics for it, I could probably work with that. But I don't.
        • Player: Okay, so you want me to look for the schematics for you, is that it?
        • Dondakan the Dwarf: That's it, yes! Here, I have one part of the schematics, sent to me by some prankster dwarf, I don't even remember his name. You'll have to find the rest on your own.
        • Dondakan the Dwarf: Oh, and you'll also need a golden helmet of course. Would hurt quite a bit otherwise.
        • Player: Won't a gold plated helmet do?
        • Dondakan the Dwarf: No, it has to be a helmet made out of solid gold. Gold plated helmets contain so little actual gold, it'd be a bit dangerous.
        • Dondakan the Dwarf: Unless you want to die when I shoot you at the rock?
        • Player: No no, I'll get you a helmet made out of solid gold.
        • Player: Although that will be a horrendously heavy thing to actually wear.
        • Dondakan the Dwarf: Yes yes, well, get going now, why don't you? I'll guard the cannon while you're away.
        • Player: That's what I thought you'd say.
        • If the player has room in their inventory:
        • If the player's inventory is full:
          • You have no space in your inventory and drop the schematic on the ground.
        • (End of dialogue)
    • My head's spinning, I have to go for a bit.
      • Player: My head's spinning, I have to go for a bit.
      • (End of dialogue)
  • No, I'd rather sell it for a huge profit.
    • Player: No, on second thought, I'd rather sell it for a huge profit.
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Nice idea, [player name], but no one will buy a golden cannonball!
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: It looks nice, but it's not much use as a projectile.
    • (End of dialogue)

Finding the schematics

[edit | edit source]

Talking to Dondakan

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: What did you want me to find again?
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Schematics to modify my cannon, and a golden helmet for you to wear.
  • If the player lost the schematic given by Dondakan:
    • Player: I lost that schematic you gave me, actually.
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Oh, be more careful! Here, have a copy, but don't lose it again!
    • If the player has room in their inventory:
    • If the player's inventory is full:
      • You have no space in your inventory and drop the schematic on the ground.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • Player: Sounds simple enough. Any idea on where I can find those schematics?
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Not a clue! I don't even know how many parts there are. It's probably best to ask any dwarven engineers that you might know.
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: And it could be that someone in the mines or the city here knows where this part came from. Didn't you talk to someone in Keldagrim already? Just ask around!
  • Player: Again...
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: No complaining now, run along!
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Khorvak

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: I'm looking for schematics to modify the dwarven multicannon to fire a human. Can you help?
  • Khorvak, a dwarven engineer: Haha, yesh, I have jusht the shing!
  • Khorvak, a dwarven engineer: I've been working on thish deshign for quite a while now!
  • Khorvak, a dwarven engineer: Never got to test it, love to shee it shoot a real human!
  • Player: Well, can you give them to me? I'd be willing to try the experiment.
  • Khorvak, a dwarven engineer: Oooh, shure, shure... I've only got one part left, though, I gave all the other parts away.
  • Player: Who did you give them to?
  • Khorvak, a dwarven engineer: How should I know? I'm only a shimple dwarf.
  • Player: Okay, okay, can I have that one schematic then?
  • Khorvak, a dwarven engineer: Of courshe!
  • Khorvak, a dwarven engineer: Just give me a drink and I'll gladly help you.
  • Select an option
  • No, I've had enough of buying drinks for people!
    • Player: No, I've had enough of buying drinks for people!
    • Player: It's always like this... Sure, I'll help you [player name], just as soon as you get me a drink!
    • Player: And more often than not they actually want a very special kind of drink that can only be gotten in the next town, or beyond.
    • Player: And what is wrong with all you people anyway? Sometimes it seems as if half the population of Gielinor are alcoholics!
    • Player: So, no, I won't do it anymore, you can get your own drink for once, and I'm just going to stay right here until you've done so!
    • Khorvak, a dwarven engineer: Pffft, I only wanted a dwarven shtout from that table over there.
    • Khorvak, a dwarven engineer: Here, have the shtupid schematic, I've gone right off my drink now.
    • If the player has room in their inventory:
    • If the player's inventory is full:
      • You can't carry the schematic and drop it on the ground.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • Oh, alright, what do you want to drink?
    • Player: Oh, alright, what do you want to drink?
    • Khorvak, a dwarven engineer: Oooh, jusht a glash of dwarven shtout over there...
    • (End of dialogue)

Using a dwarven stout on Khorvak

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Here, I've got your dwarven stout.
  • Khorvak, a dwarven engineer: That'sh wonderful! You're a good human, you are. Here, have thish schematic and have fun with it!
  • If the player has room in their inventory:
  • If the player's inventory is full:
    • You can't carry the schematic and drop it on the ground.
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Khorvak after receiving his schematic

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Thanks for that schematic.
  • Khorvak, a dwarven engineer: Sho have you been shot out of a cannon yet?
  • Player: No, fortunately not.
  • (End of dialogue)

Back to Rolad

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: You've been so helpful with that book, I was wondering, can you help me with something else as well?
  • Rolad: Of course, anything to help a fellow dwarf, especially such a big, strong one such as yourself!
  • Player: Dondakan wants to modify his multicannon, you see, to fire a human.
  • Rolad: A human, you say? Are we using humans as cannon fodder now?
  • Rolad: Well, good for him, never did like humans anyway.
  • Player: But can you help me with the schematics? Dondakan needs to know what he needs to modify.
  • Rolad: Oh, I see, I see. No, I have no schematics to... what did you say? Modify the cannon to shoot humans? Such a preposterous idea.
  • Rolad: No, all I have are the base schematics of the cannon. I was on the multicannon project once, you know?
  • Rolad: You see, back when-
  • Player: Oh, those will be a tremendous help already, can I borrow those off of you as well?
  • Rolad: Well, of course, I have the schematics written down on a piece of paper somewhere. Let me just look for it.
  • Rolad: Oh dear, I seem to have lost the schematics.
  • Select an option
  • You are rather a forgetful person, aren't you?
    • Player: You are rather a forgetful person, aren't you?
    • Rolad: I hardly ever lose anything, I'll have you know!
    • Rolad: Now, you wouldn't be able to go and look for the schematics, would you?
    • Player: Oh, alright, I'll go and have a look.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • I'd better look for them as well then?
    • (Transcript missing. edit)

Talking to Rolad while having lost the dwarven lore book

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Say, you wouldn't happen to have another copy of that book, would you?
  • Rolad: Don't tell me you lost that book!
  • Player: Er, yes, I lost your book...
  • Rolad: Lucky that I have another copy, isn't it? Please don't lose it again.
  • Player: Great, thanks a lot!
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Rolad again

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: I can't seem to find your schematics... Did you lose them down in the mines again?
  • Rolad: Oh, let's see... well... maybe. I'm not altogether sure where I left them.
  • Player: No idea at all?
  • Rolad: Sorry, no... I do not even remember what I drew them on.
  • (End of dialogue)

Reading the dwarven lore book

[edit | edit source]
  • As you finish reading the book, you notice the last page has a very peculiar picture drawn on it.
  • Tear out the page?
  • Yes.
    • If the player has room in their inventory:
      • You tear out the page and find what appears to be one of the schematics you've been looking for! You throw away the ruined book and tuck the schematic safely away.
    • If the player's inventory is full:
      • (Transcript missing. edit)
  • No.

Talking to Rolad after finding the schematic

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: I found your schematics! You wrote them down on one of the pages of that book you gave me!
  • Rolad: Oh, of course, why didn't I think of that!
  • (End of dialogue)

Talking to the Dwarven Engineer

[edit | edit source]
  • With open inventory space:
    • Player: Do you have any schematics related to the dwarven multicannon?
    • Dwarven Engineer: Why, what do you need them for?
    • Player: Ah, so you do!
    • Player: Dondakan needs schematics to modify his multicannon, to fire a human you see.
    • Dwarven Engineer: And you'd be the test subject? I mean, the cannonball?
    • Player: Ehm, yes, I suppose so...
    • Dwarven Engineer: Haha, that I would like to see!
    • Dwarven Engineer: Here, take this. Khorvak sent it to me from White Wolf Mountain, kind of as a joke. It's incomplete, of course, doesn't mean anything without other parts.
    • Dwarven Engineer: Haha, he's always a laugh, that Khorvak. Shooting humans out of cannons!
    • Player: Thanks... I suppose.
    • (Player receives Schematics (Dwarf Engineer).)
    • (End of dialogue)
  • Without room in the inventory:
    • Player: Do you have any schematics related to the dwarven multicannon?
    • Dwarven Engineer: You wouldn't be able to carry them anyway, so why ask for them?
    • (End of dialogue)

Talking to the Dwarven Engineer again with the schematic

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: Do you have any schematics related to the dwarven multicannon?
  • Dwarven Engineer: Yes, and I already gave a part to you, remember?
  • Player: Oh yes.
  • (End of dialogue)

Between a Rock...

[edit | edit source]

Returning to Dondakan

[edit | edit source]
  • If you have all the schematics but have not assembled them yet and don't have a golden helmet:
  • Player: I think I have all the different parts of the schematics...
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Let me have a look at that!
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: This doesn't make any sense, it's all jumbled up! Sort it out, will you, don't torment an old dwarf with nonsensical drawings!
    • (End of dialogue)
  • If you have all the schematics but have not assembled them yet and have a golden helmet:
    • Player: I have that golden helmet you said I'd need, what else did you need again?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: I still need those schematics to modify my cannon. It doesn't normally fire humans, you know.
  • If you have the golden helmet but without the schematics in inventory:
    • Player: I have that golden helmet you said I'd need, what else did you need again?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: I still need those schematics to modify my cannon. It doesn't normally fire humans, you know.
  • If schematics have been assembled but without the golden helmet in inventory:
    • Player: I've got your schematics... what else was I supposed to do?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: You'll need a golden helmet as well, if you want to survive the blast.
    • Player: I would prefer that, yes.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • With a golden helmet and missing Dondakan's schematic:
    • Player: I have that golden helmet you said I'd need, what else did you need again?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: I still need those schematics to modify my cannon. It doesn't normally fire humans, you know.
    • Player: I lost that schematic you gave me, actually.
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Oh, be more careful! Here, have a copy, but don't lose it again!
    • With a full inventory:
      • You have no space in your inventory and drop the schematic on the ground.
    • (End of dialogue)
  • With a golden helmet and missing any other schematic:
    • Player: I have that golden helmet you said I'd need, what else did you need again?
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: I still need those schematics to modify my cannon. It doesn't normally fire humans, you know.
  • With an unequipped golden helmet and assembled schematics:
    • Player: I've got your schematics all assembled, and I have that golden helmet as well!
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Well, go ahead and wear your helmet! Won't protect your head if it's not on your head!
    • (End of dialogue)
  • With an equipped golden helmet and assembled schematics:
    • Player: I've got your schematics all assembled, and I have that golden helmet as well!
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Wonderful! These schematics look simple enough... are you ready for your quick trip through the rock then?
    • Select an option
    • You may fire when ready!
      • Player: You may fire when ready!
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Ah, such enthusiasm! Okay, here we go, let me have a look at those schematics and we'll get started.
      • Skip cutscene?
      • Yes.
        • (Transcript missing. edit)
      • No.
        • If all instances of the cutscene are currently full:
          • Dondakan the Dwarf: I'm sorry, you will have to wait a moment, this schematic is more complex than I thought.
          • (End of dialogue)
        • Otherwise:
          • A cutscene begins and the player enters the cannon
          • Dondakan the Dwarf: Right, sitting comfortably?
          • Player: Er, not really, no...
          • Dondakan the Dwarf: Excellent, excellent, I'll get the cannon ready to fire then!
          • Player: I'm starting to get second thoughts about this!
          • Dondakan the Dwarf: Just think of all that gold!
          • Player: I'm thinking of that demon...
          • Dondakan the Dwarf: Don't worry, it'll all be over in a moment!
          • Player: That's what I'm afraid of.
          • The screen fades to black as the cannon fires. The screen cuts to the player flying into Dondakan's mine
          • Player: Where... where am I?
          • Player: What is this place?
          • You hear muffled sounds through the rock wall.
          • Player: Dondakan said there was supposed to be a river behind the rock... but I don't see a river here.
          • You start to feel a little claustrophobic in here...
          • Player: I think... I think... I think I may be...
          • Player: ...inside the rock!
          • Arzinian Being of Bordanzan: You are in my domain now! Begone lest you wish to be destroyed!
          • Player: What? What was that?
          • Player: Ow, my poor head... this helmet seems heavier than ever!
          • Your helmet starts to feel heavier and heavier! While you have the feeling it somehow keeps you in the rock, you think you can only keep it on for about eight more minutes.
          • (End of dialogue)
    • Ready as I'll ever be.
      • Player: Ready as I'll ever be...
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Okay, here we go, let me have a look at those schematics and we'll get started.
      • (Same as above)
    • Err... maybe another time.
      • Player: Err, maybe another time, I have some important business to attend to.
      • (End of dialogue)

Removing the helmet

[edit | edit source]
  • The world turns black and you feel as if you're being sucked out of the rock.
  • If the player had any gold ore on them:
    • You suddenly notice all the gold in your inventory has disappeared! It must have been absorbed into the rock!
    • (End of dialogue)

Talking to Dondakan after being shot into the mine

[edit | edit source]
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: So, tell me! What did you see inside! Is there any gold in there?
  • Player: Yes... gold, yes...
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Haha, wonderful!
  • Player: I ehm, also ran into this spirit thing. You remember, from the book?
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Ran into him? How do you mean?
  • Player: The rock... seems to be a lot larger than it appears on the outside. I was actually able to walk around in there. But it was like... walking around in a dream.
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: And this spirit you speak of? Was it guarding the gold?
  • Player: I'm not quite sure, it all seems so distant now.
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Well, if it is, that must mean you must kill it! Simple!
  • Player: Right. Kill it. Simple. Okay.
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: So are you ready to have another go in the rock?
  • Select an option
  • Ready as I'll ever be.
    • Player: Ready as I'll ever be...
    • If not wearing the golden helmet:
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Not without wearing your golden helmet you're not!
      • (End of dialogue)
    • If wearing the golden helmet:
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Okay, here we go, hold on to your helmet!
      • Your helmet starts to feel heavier and heavier! While you have the feeling it somehow keeps you in the rock, you think you can only keep it on for about eight more minutes.
      • (End of dialogue)
  • Err... maybe another time.
    • Player: Err, maybe another time, I have some important business to attend to.
    • (End of dialogue)

Golden helmet timer

[edit | edit source]
  • After 100 ticks:
  • The helmet seems to become even heavier
  • After 250 ticks:
  • You feel a headache coming on... oh wait, it's just your helmet.
  • After 400 ticks:
  • You feel like you're being pushed into the ground by the weight of the golden helmet.
  • After 500 ticks:
  • You stumble and nearly fall. You can only keep this helmet on for a few more minutes!
  • After 600 ticks:
  • You fight the urge to take off your helmet. It's getting harder and harder to resist!
  • After 700 ticks:
  • You don't think you can keep on this helmet [sic] for more than a minute. Whatever you want to accomplish here, do it fast!
  • After 750 ticks:
  • Must... not... take... off... helmet!
  • After 775 ticks:
  • The weight of the helmet is becoming unbearable. You can't keep it on for more than a few seconds now!
  • After 800 ticks:
  • Just as you feel your neck is about to snap, you take off your helmet.

Randomly while mining gold

[edit | edit source]
  • A random dialogue is selected from the following:
  • Dialogue 1
    • Arzinian Being of Bordanzan: Stop what you're doing or taste my wrath!
  • Dialogue 2
    • Arzinian Being of Bordanzan: Do not touch what is not yours!
  • Dialogue 3
    • Arzinian Being of Bordanzan: I would not do that again if I were you!
  • Dialogue 4
    • Arzinian Being of Bordanzan: You are bringing doom down on yourself!
  • (End of dialogue)

Facing the Arzinian Being

[edit | edit source]
  • Arzinian Being of Bordanzan: You did not heed my messages to stay away! You have brought doom down on to yourself!
  • Arzinian Being of Bordanzan: There are many aspects to my being and there are many skills I possess.
  • If your highest combat stat is Attack or Strength:
    • Arzinian Being of Bordanzan: You, I can see, are a skilled warrior. Yet your might is no match for my magic!
  • If your highest combat stat is Ranged:
    • Arzinian Being of Bordanzan: You are an able ranger, yet that is useless against my might!
  • If your highest combat stat is Magic:
    • Arzinian Being of Bordanzan: Your magical abilities are impressive, but my powers of archery will foil them!
  • Arzinian Being of Bordanzan: Behold, as my avatar descends to your level to extinguish the flame of your puny existence!
  • If you have no gold in your inventory:
    • Arzinian Being of Bordanzan: I am invincible! You stand no chance against me!
  • If you have 5-14 gold in your inventory:
    • Arzinian Being of Bordanzan: You are no match for me!
  • If you have 15+ gold in your inventory:
    • Arzinian Being of Bordanzan: And while your power is great, mortal, I will still resist you!
  • (End of dialogue)

Attacking the avatar while having no gold in your inventory

[edit | edit source]
  • A random dialogue is selected from the following:
  • Dialogue 1
    • Arzinian Avatar of [Magic/Ranging/Strength]: Your puny efforts cannot harm me!
  • Dialogue 2
    • Arzinian Avatar of [Magic/Ranging/Strength]: Give up and resign yourself to your death!
  • (End of dialogue)

Finishing up

[edit | edit source]
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: The whole cave was shaking! What happened in there?
  • Player: I em... let me just collect my thoughts. It all seems like a sort of distant dream now.
  • Player: I think I killed the Arzinian demon thing.
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: What, you actually killed him?
  • Player: Well, I killed its avatar. I'm not sure what happened to the demon itself.
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Probably banished it to some hellish realm or other.
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: He'll be back, but not for a few thousand years, I'm sure.
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: But in the mean time, there's plenty of gold for me!
  • Player: For us.
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Of course, of course! Whenever you want to go back in there, let me know... just don't forget to bring your helmet!
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: And here, have this rune pickaxe as well, I can just use a normal one now anyway.
  • Player: Great, thanks a lot!
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: No no, thank you! After all these years, the riddle of the rock has finally been cracked!
  • If your inventory is full:
    • Dondakan tried to hand you a rune pickaxe, but you dropped it on the ground.
  • Congratulations! Quest complete!

Post-quest

[edit | edit source]

Dondakan

[edit | edit source]
  • Player: How are you doing, Dondakan?
  • Dondakan the Dwarf: Oh, just fine, just fine! This gold is certainly creating a steady flow of income for me! After the company takes some of the cut, of course.
  • Select an Option
  • Can you shoot me into the rock again?
    • Player: Can you shoot me into the rock again?
    • If the player is not wearing the gold helmet:
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: You need to wear that golden helmet... unless you want to crack open your skull on the rock.
      • (End of dialogue)
    • If the player is wearing the gold helmet:
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Of course, just a second, let me adjust my cannon again.
      • (The player is transported to Dondakan's mine.)
      • (End of dialogue)
  • Are you selling those boots of yours?
    • If the player is not wearing granite boots:
      • Player: Say, are you selling those boots of yours?
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: What, you mean these granite boots?
      • Player: Yes, I'd be happy to pay quite some money for them!
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Haha, I bet you would, I bet you would!
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: But I no longer need the money, this rock is generating plenty!
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Besides, I'm rather fond of them now... best boots I ever had!
      • Select an Option
      • Oh please...
        • Player: Oh please...
        • Dondakan the Dwarf: No, I won't sell them.
        • Player: Pretty please?
        • Dondakan the Dwarf: No!
        • Player: Oh come on!!!
        • Dondakan the Dwarf: Well...
        • Player: Yes?
        • Dondakan the Dwarf: How much gold would you be willing to pay for it? Not that I'm selling my boots, mind, I'm just curious.
        • Enter amount: (player input)
        • If the number is below 1000:
          • If the player has enough coins:
            • Dondakan the Dwarf: What, are you trying to scam old Dondakan? You want me to sell these boots for a measly [number] coins?
            • Dondakan the Dwarf: I'm not selling them anyway.
            • (End of dialogue)
          • If the player does not have enough coins:
            • Dondakan the Dwarf: You're so poor, you don't even have that much gold on you...
            • (End of dialogue)
        • If the number is between 1000 and 74999:
          • If the player has enough coins:
            • Dondakan the Dwarf: If I were selling my granite boots, which I'm clearly not, I would certainly not accept a mere [number] coins for them.
            • (End of dialogue)
          • If the player does not have enough coins:
            • Dondakan the Dwarf: That's quite a sum of money, which I notice you don't even have on you.
            • (End of dialogue)
        • If the number is 75000 or more:
          • If the player has enough coins:
            • Dondakan the Dwarf: Haha, nice try [player name]!
            • Dondakan the Dwarf: Pity I'm not selling my boots, not for any price or any item.
            • Dondakan the Dwarf: I just wanted to see how high you would go!
            • Player: Bah, thanks a lot.
            • (End of dialogue)
          • If the player does not have enough coins:
            • Dondakan the Dwarf: Hey, that's quite a bit of money. Which you don't have on you. Oh well, I wasn't selling my boots anyway.
            • (End of dialogue)
      • Never mind, I don't want them anymore.
        • Player: Never mind, I don't want them anymore.
        • Dondakan the Dwarf: Great, because I don't want to sell them.
        • Player: Okay.
        • Dondakan the Dwarf: Right.
        • (Shows initial options)
    • If the player is wearing granite boots:
      • Player: Check these out.
      • You lift up your boots for Dondakan to see.
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Where'd you get those from? Did you make your own?
      • Player: Not quite, they were retrieved from the corpse of a wyvern.
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: You killed a wyvern? Last I heard they were all dead.
      • Player: I never said I killed it! But perhaps I did, I am a grand adventure[sic] after all!
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: Oh dear, oh dear. It seems firing you head first into a rock was perhaps not the best idea, you've gone absolutely loony.
      • Player: Hmm, well you do have a point...
      • Dondakan the Dwarf: It's alright Laddie, I'm just joking.
      • (End of dialogue)
  • That's great, but I have to go.
    • Player: That's great, but I have to go now.
    • Dondakan the Dwarf: Come back any time!
    • (End of dialogue)

Hugi the Librarian

[edit | edit source]
  • Librarian: Welcome to the Keldagrim library, human traveller!
  • Select an Option
  • (Non-quest dialogue) Can you tell me more about the library?
  • What do you know about impenetrable rocks?
    • Player: What do you know about impenetrable rocks?
    • Librarian: You're confusing me, what rock exactly are you talking about?
    • Player: The big one in the mines south of the city. Dondakan's big rock.
    • Librarian: I see, I see.
    • Librarian: I heard there was a demon inside there that you banished.
    • Player: Yes, what exactly does that mean anyway?
    • Librarian: There are some demons that we cannot see properly as mortals. They also cannot be fought with normal weapons.
    • Librarian: But sometimes these creatures manifest themselves in a solid form in our world. Their avatar.
    • Librarian: When you defeat an avatar, you defeat the actual demon behind it. But they don't die, they are banished to where they came from originally.
    • Player: Does that mean I will have to deal with this demon again some time?
